I tried to cover all of the topics while trying to keep it simple. Even if you won’t be able accomplish each and every subject listed below, I wholeheartedly believe just being aware of the topics will improve your gameplay in a great way.


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎A brief explanation on how companies work


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎I will not go into detail about it since it’s not the main topic of this guide. However, it may improve employees’ understanding about how companies work with a little further knowledge. Simply, some companies will require stocks to be purchased from retailers and sell them for a profit, other companies will create the stock onsite by setting employees to specialist job positions and the third type of companies will not need to purchase or make stock, and instead sell for example an Entry Fee or Ticket which can be infinitely sold. General opinion is to price your stock slightly higher than what it cost for you while gaining the customer loyalty. Nonetheless, it takes some time to find out the best layout for all variables.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ There are 3 bars on the company page which helps the director to have an insight about how the company is doing.

• Popularity bar: It is just an indicator for how your company compares to other companies of the same type

• Efficiency bar: This is by far the most important bar because it shows how efficient employees are on average. As wiki says “Efficiency will drop if employees are inactive or using drugs, but rise if they meet or surpass the stat requirements for their assigned job.”
• Environment bar: Employees with high addiction level or inactive employees will lower the environment as well as efficiency.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ In short, every company is trying to surpass each other in terms of income to reach 10 stars. It is important to increase the star ranking due to both director and employees will gain 1 job point per day per star of the company. It's the same logic when it comes to trains. A company will gain 1 train per day per star of the company unless there are employees working as "Trainers". Job specials require a company to reach corresponding Star Ranking to unlock. While a company may lose a star ranking any day of the week, ranking up can only happen on Sundays.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎Keeping your addiction level low


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎This topic is commonly misunderstood by a majority of employees. While using the maximum amount of drugs daily, you can still have a low level of addiction. Every drug you take will provide some addiction, even if the Brain icon has not yet appeared. It is important to know that the brain icon indicates your addiction level has passed a certain level and now even your battle stats are affected. That being said, addiction effect occurs while you have a particular level of addiction – not only while you have a drug cooldown. Your effectiveness within a company will begin to drop as your addiction level climbs (this doesn’t affect directors). This starts from your first drug taken, not just when you have the Brain icon appeared.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎Despite the devasteting effect of addiction on effectiveness, it is pretty easy to handle. The primary way of removing that addiction is to fly to Switzerland and buy a number of rehabs at the clinic there. You don’t need to reduce your drug addiction by 100% however it makes a great difference to lose a percentage (I intentionally avoided providing a specific percentage as it may vary by total drugs used and rehabs bought) of addiction every other day or every 3 days.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎Furthermore, as the Patch list #174 (29/12/2020) says a new modifier has been created called “Addiction Mitigation”. Besides the faction tree special Toleration Branch – Side effects, an employee can individually reduce the negative effects of addiction by a further 20%.





‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎The new company day is currently at approximately 18:00 Torn City Time. This is when income is calculated which means if you are going to rehab make sure you do it before new company day. As a little reminder, assuming you use an airstrip, flying to Switzerland takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes. That being the case, it is better to take off before 15:50 Torn City Time.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎Activity level


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎Activity has a big role over companies and it is prone to misunderstanding. There are rumors around Torn discussing what it is and what it isn’t, but I can generally say that the more logs you create the more active you are. Just logging in and leaving your page open or only reading forums doesn’t create activity on the contrary you need to do your crimes, train in a gym or attack people etc. In other words having the online icon doesn’t count towards your activity level instead you actually have to be active.





‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎According to wiki, inactive employees will have their efficiency reduced by up to 100% between 24 hours and 11 days. Formerly, it capped out at 50% after 7 days. The current reduction rate is astonishingly high so it is best to avoid it as much as possible.




‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎Merits


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎This is a gameplay changing subject so it’s worth mentioning about it. Again with the Patch list #174 (29/12/2020) a new merit upgrade called “Employee Effectiveness” has been added. Merits can be hard to obtain in plenty of numbers and it may change an employees gameplay entirely, however every upgrade you make will add up to carry you above your potential. With the current numbers you can upgrade it to level 10 (55 merits required) and gain another +10 effectiveness.





‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎Communication


‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎This is by far the most disregarded issue in a company yet in my honest opinion it has a vital role. It’s a director’s duty to keep employees up to date. There is a newsletter feature that allows the director to reach all employees at the same time. Some news may be less important to mention in a newsletter yet not pointless to be ignored. Luckily there is a company chat. It’s a great ease for reaching out to everyone about little reminders, news, warnings and such other things. You may not feel like writing there every second of the day but having it on with at least “flash notifier” will be pretty helpful.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎Additionally, it is good to let your director know that you read the newsletter and chat. There is no “seen/read” feature in Torn. Your director does not know who actually reads the newsletter and company chat unless you give it a reaction. There are a lot of ways to do it. You can reply to the mails by saying a couple of words about what you think or mention about your concerns. Other than that you can pm directly to him or simply send a message to company chat with a thumbs up emoji.

‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎Last but not least, if you are going to leave the company or will not be able to stay active for a period of time, let your director know about it. Otherwise your director might think that you just stopped playing when he/she sees your last action was 3 days ago. About leaving the company, informing your director that you are planning to leave and giving him/her some time to find a replacement for you will be the best thing an employee can do on their way out. Apart from helping your director, it is always good to leave the door halfway open in case things do not go as planned.
