How you'd be RICHER working FREE in 10* Oil Rig
-
Thread created on 12:39:27 - 27/01/21 (5 years ago)|Last replied 06:41:26 - 24/07/26 (3 months ago)Logistics and TV companies are often touted to be the best Jobs in Torn. I have worked in both. The average wage offered now in Logistics is 3m. The average wage offered in Oil Rigs are 2m. Any logical player would work for Logistics over Oil Rigs. However, I believe that you can make more money in a 10* Oil Rig than in ANY other company, with a Lower wage (even with ZERO wage)
The reason: 10* Oil Rigs can offer an additional 50% banking limit. So instead of the usual 2B invested in your bank, you can invest 3B. Let's delve into the maths:
---- Wage income ---
Player A works in Logistics earning 3m per day
Player B works in 10* Oil Rig earning 2m per day
Both players have full banking merits.
---- Bank Income ----
Player A invests 2B per 90 days at 20% interest. His profit is 400m.
His average profit per day is 400m / 90days = 4.44m per day
Player B invests 3B (instead of the usual 2B) per 90 days, also for 20% interest. His profit is 600m.
His average daily profit is 600m / 90days = 6.66m per day
--- Total Income ---
Player A: 3m (wage) + 4.44m (bank) = 7.44m daily
Player B: 2m (wage) + 6.66m (bank) = 8.66m daily
Player B (Oil Rig) earns an extra 1.22m daily
---------
That alone should convince you to switch to Oil Rigs. However, Oils Rigs have another perk: You can reduce your bank investment time by 1 hour for 3 job points. This seems pointless at first but this can boost you daily bank income by 13.9%
-----
Let's return to Player B, working in a 10* Oil Rig and earning 10 job points per day.
Every day he works, he reduces his bank time by 3.33 hours (10 job points / 3 job points per hour off). This is equivalent to removing 0.1388 days or 5/36 days (fractions are better, we'll use this in a moment)
Let determine how many days this can shorten his 90 day bank investment time by:
90 - X = X * 5/36
X is the amount of days surpassed
Take LHS as days left in bank investment
Take RHS as the day he can remove by jobs points
When LHS and RHS are the same number, the bank investment can be completed.
For those who failed algebra, X is 79.02 days. Let's round this to 79 days.
So in summary, Player B doesn't actually invest every 90 days, he invest every 79 days. This boosts his daily income:
--- Bank Income (Revised) ---
Player A bank average daily profit 400m/90 days = 4.44m (unchanged)
Player B bank average daily profit 600m/79 days = 7.59m
Player B's bank income went from 6.66m to 7.59m daily. (13.9% increase)
--- Total income (Revised) ---
Player A: 3m (wage) + 4.44m (bank) = 7.44m daily (unchanged)
Player B: 2m (wage) + 7.59m (bank) = 9.59m daily
Player B, working in a shabby Oil Rig, earns an extra 2.15m per day.
And yes, even with Zero wage for Player B, the bank alone (7.59m) exceeds the total income for Player A (7.44)...
----
Disclaimer:- This only works for 10* Oil Rigs, not ALL Oil Rigs, and they very competitive to get into
- The assumptions made (average wage) are from my personal interaction from directors, yours may vary.
- This post does not consider the opportunity cost of that extra 1B.
TLDR:- If you have sufficient stats, you should chose Oil Rig over Logistics and TV
- Reason: The 50% extra banking + reduction in bank investment time from Job points
- Even with a 1m lower wage at at Oil Rig, your total income will be circa 2.15m extra per day, by virtue of the banking perks.

When you are at that level of working stats you might be at an age where the extra money is irrelevant as you already have quite a lot of it -especially if you were/are an active player- and the TV specials that are otherwise hard to obtain like the extra racing skill if that matters to you or more importantly the 0.25% boost to a stat could be more valuable than the extra cash.
This is a well written, easy to follow up guide clearly showing the monetary gain of 10* Oil Rigs tho so thanks for making this R+Last edited by HuntedGhost on 13:11:00 - 27/01/21 (5 years ago) -

Missed a huge opportunity to dethrone Andyman.
A little unfair that you didn't include the benefit of the other companies' specials while you considered the specials of the Oil Rigs, but your point was yet well made.

Posted on 13:47:12 - 27/01/21 (5 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkYou're correct, TV does have that special if I'm not mistaken. Logistics also has a nice perk where you trade Job Points for gains in Defense. And I agree, these perks would be more desirable for very active players without monetary concerns.
But for myself, I am not too active and my only goal at the moment is reach 10B in networth. After you purchase the usual BBs and max out the Bank investment, it's pretty difficult to find something that can provide those same returns. I think it's much easier to get from 100M to 1B, than it is to get from 1B to 10B. So little edges such as the one discuss above can be really useful to those in a similar position to me.
And I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you :) -

Tho who pays 10* Oil rig workers for free? Nearly nobody, but it makes the statement in title false. Some of my better works (make sure to return to the OP since links not working)

Posted on 03:15:02 - 14/04/21 (5 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkOverall good calculations, but I have something to add on.
I think you missed out the opportunity cost of Player A to be able to garner returns from the $1b torn cash that he did not invest in the banks.
You're comparing Player A (Who invested $2b cash)
against Player B (Who invested $3b cash)
Player A can put his $1b cash somewhere else and gain returns on his cash. -
