Foot Russian Roulette can be a great way to make money on Torn. Sure, it is high risk, but it can also be high reward. It has also been responsible for a number of people rage-quitting Torn or self-banning from the Casino to preserve their sanity (and finances!)

With over 25,000 30,000 games of RR played, I frequently get asked for advice or tips on how to make money.

Keep in mind that RR is based on random number generation. There isn't really a "formula to crack" in order to allow you to sky rocket to $200b net worth in less than a month like has happened for some players. I can't speak to that kind or game play, because that has never been my experience. RR can be very exciting and also very frustrating. A lot of players engage in "magical thinking" and attribute successes to having more of a "hidden luck stat" than others or having items that "boost the hidden luck stat" but I am not convinced this is a thing.

Here are the tips I do have to share:

    1. Know Your Limits

I always advise people against doing "all ins" or risking more they can afford to lose. It is never fun winning a game, only to have that player message you to beg and plead for the money back because now they are bankrupt or they spent RL money to gamble, and it's "all your fault." Nor is it fun to risk and lose it all and be stagnant in your game play. If you can afford to play, you can afford to lose. If you didn't lose it to me, you would have lost it to someone else. Don't take your anger out on the winners. Try to learn your lesson for next time.

I also advise people never to sell off hard assets for gambling money. Your investments and equipment do have value, but it is a bad habit to liquidate those assets for gambling - you will soon find yourself with no net worth, no items, no assets, and no financial mobility left on Torn.

    2. Have A Purpose For Your Winnings

I have always found I do better at RR when I have a target goal in mind. If your goal is to earn enough to buy an FHC or a SE, great - the goal is smart as it will impact your decision making. When I first started playing RR, my goal was to buy every stock BB possible with my winnings. It took a while, but I was able to achieve this. RR has also funded my purchase of additional PI's, SE, my Hazmat Suit and Welding Helm. I was motivated to achieve my goals, and I took steps to get there by giving purpose to my winnings.

    3. Invest Your Winnings

Further to the above, my advice is to try to invest your winnings into sources of passive income. Get Torn to generate money for you without having to put in the extra effort. The more passive income you can set up for yourself, the more stable your game play will be. Ask your friends and faction mates for tips on good passive income sources - max out your banking, buy stock BB, stock investment, etc. Slowly but surely this will give you more money to gamble with!

    4. It Takes Money To Make Big Money

If you want to skyrocket to $200b net worth, you are going to need large sums of money to risk. But the potential to lose it is also there. A $10b pot is exciting to win but soul crushing to lose. Only do it if you can handle it. The flip side is, it is hard to make lots of money when you are only playing $1m pots. That said, i have often spent time grinding away at RR to turn $100m into $1b - it can be time consuming work, but it can get you there.

    5. A Win Is A Win, But Losing Is Important Too

Winning is just as important as losing in RR, and it is just as much part of the game. I don't advise always going for $100m pots. Know that you are going to lose eventually, and do your best to plan accordingly. People call this "controlling your losses" - it is way better to lose $10 than $100m. How you predict your losses is up to you. Personally, anything more than 2 wins in a row and I drop down to pounding out tiny RR pots until I lose and get those losses out of the way. This is my magical thinking though ;)

    6. Don't Martingale Unless You Can Handle The Risk

The Martingale technique (Google it) is essentially doubling your bet every time you lose until you win. When you win, you return to your initial bet. Your net winnings will only ever be your starting point, but the losses can climb really high. I believe my record is a 17 in a row losing streak. If I had been using the Martingale technique and even just started at $10m, doubling after every loss, I would have been completely bankrupt way before the loss streak was over. I also would have had significant difficulty finding people able to play those big pot games - all in an effort to recoup my initial $10m.
That said, a lot of well respected players will use the Martingale technique and it can, if used sparingly, be an effective tool to generate funds.

There are other types of Martingale strategies and also the Labouchere strategy for playing RR, but you will have to look them up for yourself as I don't use them.

    7. Avoid Double/Triple Shot "Acts of Courage"

Acts of Courage unlock after you have played a certain number of games, allowing you to pull the trigger twice or three times before it becomes the other player's turn.
Personally, I hate double shots. I wish we could have a version of RR without them. Yes I get that sometimes it pays off really well, but it also increases your risk. There are people I no longer play because of how frequently they double shot. Perhaps that is an argument FOR it, but it just really rubs me the wrong way. Do what you wish for this one, but just recognize you could easily screw yourself over through acts of courage.

    8. If You Win Or Lose And Get Mugged, Be Careful

Be VERY careful before you accuse your RR partner of mugging you. Yes, it can happen, but a LOT of muggers stalk the RR lobby to opportunistically poach winnings, or games timing out due to no one joining. Check their data first - compare mugs in the chart and in the graph and you can get a sense if they have mugged on that day. And yes, people do work together, or tell their faction they are about to lose to have their partner's winnings mugged. But don't throw around a "you mugged me" accusation unless you know for sure. Otherwise, it could bring a whole heap of badness your way.

Recognize that sitting for games in the RR lobby does increase the size of the target on you for potential mugs. This is a big reason why I prefer to join games than start them.

    9. RR Merits

The game does have 3 RR merits that people try to pound out pretty quick because they are so easy to get despite not really having any merit of effort or achievement to acquire.

Foot Soldier - Win against 10 unique opponents.
One in Six - Win 50 games.
Daddy's New Shoes - Win $100m in a single game.

That said, if you're heading to RR just for the merits, recognize that a lot of people are serious players and play a lot of RR games and may join yours many times. Don't yell at them because they're getting in the way of your merit hunting so you can never do RR again. You're coming into our turf, be patient and respectful while you hunt your merits and you will get them.

For Daddy's New Shoes merit, find a trusted mate and do password protected games until you earn the merit. The other two just take patience.

    10. Self-Hospitalizing Is Your Friend

If you do go after a big pot and want to do your best to keep all your winnings should you win, the best bet is to make sure you self-hosp and keep your revives off. Then you can get your cash into a ghost trade with a trusted friend until you are out of the hospital and able to safely stash your cash. People will use SED, wrong blood bags, or have friends hospitalize them to protect them on the big games. Don't be that guy who got a big cut of their winnings taken from them because they didn't take the steps to be safe!

Once your game has started, you can then take steps to self-hospitalize and then go back to your game. If you try to self-hospitalize before the game begins, you will feel silly and learn the lesson quick.

    11. Make Friendly

I have made some of my closest Torn friends by talking to other RR players. You get to meet players you might not normally cross paths with, and you can connect through your RR experiences and it can be a lot of fun. But please don't start begging or spamming people with the pots you want them to join. That gets old real quick, because we all have eyes and can see the lobby and will choose which games we wish to join.

Other than that, have fun. It is a game after all. Make smart choices, invest your winnings, have a purpose for your money, and know your limits and you should get a lot of enjoyment out of RR.

    Hope this helps.

This was mostly actually a good "guide" on RR for once! Since it focuses on stuff outside of hurr durr here is how to win.

    But...

Personally, anything more than 2 wins in a row and I drop down to pounding out tiny RR pots until I lose and get those losses out of the way.

is complete nonsense, which I think you know but good to mention it's all just superstition :P

A note on the double or triple shots ... the best case, in certain scenarios, is you have the same odds as you would doing single, and in most cases it significantly decreases your odds of winning.

Also you may want to clarify that you can self hosp after starting a game and still play that game. I don’t think a lot of people realize that. You talked about doing it but not specifically that you could do it with a game active.

Just chatted with Untouchable, he adviced me to write it here.

Here mentioned by Dalzadar is a plain (most common) Martingale strategy. There are other types of strategies under the his name, such as Reverse Martingale (doubling while winning up to a certain number of consecutive games), Split Martingale (also known as Labouchère). Labouchère doesn't blow up as fast as written above by Untouchable.

All in all though, as any game with 0 odds (analogy to flip of a coin, 50% wins 50% losses), on the long run you win some, you lose some and Martingale doesn't work.Read more about that and gambler's fallacy here and here

Always admire people who make money with 0 odds games, but I know it is not for average luck peeps like me.

Nice great content. Maybe you can add your worst lose streak / largest win streak (no of game),so ppl can understand how RNG sometimes can mess you up.

Bump! Seen your face many times at RR.
I did use martingale had some great fun and made more money then I lost, But then I learned that even small 100k - 250k can go out of control really quickly. Took a break after 2 big losses, but this guide makes me want to play again.

I have hit the 27,000 games played mark, and have taken to sharing this guide whenever people message me after losing to me in RR to complain about this or that.

Yet still people are doing all ins and selling their assets to gamble, leaving themselves so disheartened that they end up quitting Torn.

Don't do that, folks! Report your profile and ask for a casino ban if you start making poor choices, before you risk it all.

    +1 to this Dalzadar.

    Very well written.

I too might throw this link at people if they moan after a loss to help them along.
