Too many Torn gameplay guides have an expectation of endless networth and resources. "Happy jump every day! Eat 3 Xanax every day or you're falling behind! get a job in a 10-star company! etc. For new players, many of these guides are far too unrealistic and require real cash investment to achieve. With this in mind, my mugging guide is aimed at everyone with just 50m on hand to spend. As proof in my Achievements Thread, I was able to mug 2 billion dollars within my first 199 days with only subscriber status (even then, you could just spend your first mugging return on donator packs).

Before you start, it is important to note that results from mugging can be extremely varied and success can be inconsistent. However, once you find a good mug target, they can occasionally be farmed continuously for millions, netting a very good return.

You need to be prepared to be hit with retaliation and bounties. People hate getting mugged in Torn. Realise though that enemy counts, bounties and hospitalisations have very little impact on you over time. Don't worry about them. Additionally, If you are also focused on training, use the time during booster cooldowns to try some mugs to conserve energy.

Set up for mugging

As a newbie, aim to gain stealth:
• Wear a motorcycle helmet (if you can afford it) to block pepper spray
• Use a Macana as your melee and use this as your main attack. Don't use primary or secondary guns.
Gaining stealth helps reduce the chance of being known and of retaliation against you. Stealth becomes less important as your stats improve, once it is harder for people to retaliate.

Use TornTools:
Download TornTools on Chrome

This extension allows you to see specific statistics directly on the player page. This can give you an indication of player strength and net worth. The values I look for are:
• Xanax taken/energy refill – indicates time training in the gym
• Attacks won/lost and Defend won/lost – indicates player strength. Defends also indicate the number of times they might have been already mugged.
• Best damage done - indicates player strength
• Total net worth – importantly shows how much the player is worth

This is a good example of a potential mug target to watch. They have a high networth of 8 billion, only 10 xanax taken and they lose most fights.

The property the player uses is also a good indication of net worth, look for players in Private Islands, Castles or Palaces.

Have donator status:
Donator status not only gives you more energy and faster regeneration. It also allows you to use the donator search which is extremely useful for finding targets.

Get 10/10 Mugging merits:
If you are serious about mugging, invest your merit point into it. 10 merit points double your mugging return to roughly 10% of the total cash on hand.

Mugging Techniques for New Players

Using Donator Search:
The donator search is a great tool to find mug targets.

• Rich Newbies: I look for players who are 14-20 days old already taking Xanax, using energy refills, living on a private island or have a large net worth and limited playtime. Even better if you are a newbie searching under 14 days old!

• Inactive rich folk: I look for players between 20-500 days who have a large net worth, either living in or owning expensive properties or alternatively in shack/trailers (assuming rental periods lapsed). Note: This method is less effective since 2021 since stock payouts are no longer automatically sent.

Hall of Fame Search:
Use the Hall of Fame page to find rich inactive targets to mug. Look for players at your level or lower with have a high net worth and are recently inactive. Once found, these can be great for return mugs. Note: This method is less effective since 2021 since stock payouts are no longer automatically sent.

Roulette Mugging:
lots of new players look to increase their net worth in the casino, making it a great place to find targets. Spend some time monitoring the Foot Roulette page to see who is playing before trying any mugs. Once you have a list of players returning game after game, open their profiles in separate windows. You can start to assume these players are playing against each other. If you see the status of one change to "Shot themselves in the foot" there is a chance the other player holding the cash. Mug as fast as possible. You can also message players you can't defeat and ask them to help you mug by alerting you to who their opponent is, for a cut of the mug.

Buy Mugging:
Buy mugging is the easiest way to get a return from a mugging. Look for lower stat players selling items in the bazaar or on item market who aren't active or in hospital. Have two browsers open next to each other; one with the bazaar and the other with the player attack screen ready. You only get this mug if you are quicker than the seller. Be ready.

At a low level, I consider the 25 energy to be worth $600,000 or double a sold loss. To ensure a mug is worthwhile, aim to buy at least $10,000,000 worth of goods. The points market (NPC resale is the same as player price, easy flip), boosters, cans, drugs, supply packs, plushies and flowers are all good markets to explore. Other individual items include Anti Tanks (NPC resale is the same as a player, easy flip), Cosworths, Strippergrams, windproof lighters.

If a player is in hospital while selling, ask trade chat for revives, as new players often don't have their revives turned off. Spending 1 xanax on a revive can be worth a mug.

Travel Stakeouts:
Bazaar owners frequently fly while leaving their bazaars open. If you note the time they leave Torn or return to Torn from their destination, you can potentially mug them when they land and before they deposit their cash. You need to be attentive and ready to attack.
• Use the travel time chart to see how long their flight is - https://wiki.torn.com/wiki/Travel
• Set a Torntools stake out that alerts you when the player is “okay”, indicating that they have landed.

Inactive Bazaars:
Many players have bazaars open with overpriced items that never appear on the item market page. Many of these players also go inactive for long periods of time. Use the donator search to find 1-month inactive players with open bazaars and click through until you find valuable items. Even if they are overpriced, you can mug back your purchase over the coming weeks. This technique does require additional risk in paying above the market value for something. Note: doing this too frequently will trigger the bot hunter, a bullshit algorithm that punishes active players, this method should be avoided if you hate captchas.

Sell Mugging:
If you run a bazaar and notice certain lower stat players buying your expensive goods frequently, there is a good chance they are accessing their banks to also buy from other players. If you see them online try a few mugs to see how you go.

How Often to Mug?

Torn has linear player mug protection meaning that after you mug a player they have a 12-hour cooldown in which each subsequent mug is worthless.

Active but Offline:

If the player provides millions from a mug and is still offline, mug them whenever you have the energy. While the mug result will be smaller, it will be consistent due to knowing that the player has not moved their money somewhere else

Inactive and Offline:
Wait the whole 12 hours and mug consistently. However, keep an eye on their defends to see if anyone else is also farming them. If so, mug more frequently until it is no longer worthwhile

Active:
It's a gamble! If you have spare energy go for it.

Finally, Mugging is a great way to meet new people and have them yell angry at you through their keyboards. However, please don't stoop to their level and do the same in return. There is no need to be rude to the players you mug and don't waste your hard-earned mug money on bountying them back, it is a waste. Mugging is a great mechanic of the game and I encourage you to have fun with it!

Please also donate all mugging proceeds to the church. Have a good day.

ADDED INFORMATION: Do not raid mug SMTH

I'm not allowed near the Raid button ☹️

Has raid mugging ever worked out successfully for you? If so can you add what criteria would work best for a raid mug?

For example:

✅ Make sure the Greenleaf you want to buy mug is in a faction

✅ Make sure that faction isn't in a faction family

✅ Or alliance

✅ Or protected by a faction family/alliance

✅ Their leader isn't friends with powerful people (how would you check this beforehand?)

Asking purely out of curiosity and possibly hoping someone else causes a major political disaster

Travel Stakeouts: Bazaar owners frequently fly while leaving their bazaars open. If you note the time they leave Torn or return to Torn from their destination, you can potentially mug them when they land and before they deposit their cash. You need to be attentive and ready to attack. [ul][li]Use the travel time chart to see how long their flight is - https://wiki.torn.com/wiki/Travel [/li] [li]Set a Torntools stake out that alerts you when the player is “okay”, indicating that they have landed. [/li] [/ul]Inactive Bazaars: Many players have bazaars open with overpriced items that never appear on the item market page. Sell Mugging: If you run a bazaar and notice certain lower stat players buying your expensive goods frequently, there is a good chance they are accessing their banks to also buy from other players. If you see them online try a few mugs to see how you go. How Often to Mug? Torn has linear player mug protection meaning that after you mug a player they have a 12-hour cooldown in which each subsequent mug is worthless. Active but Offline: If the player provides millions from a mug and is still offline, mug them whenever you have the energy. While the mug result will be smaller, it will be consistent due to knowing that the player has not moved their money somewhere else Inactive and Offline: Wait the whole 12 hours and mug consistently. However, keep an eye on their defends to see if anyone else is also farming them. If so, mug more frequently until it is no longer worthwhile Active: It's a gamble!

Noted, I’ll save this!!

Who cares 🤷🏼‍♂️
