Heya there everyone!

I got jealous of everyone writing all of these creative, useful guides lately (lovingly glaring at you, Andyman, you overtly-helpful, arguably-genius, incredibly-well-versed in Torn knowledge Noun..), so I sat down and asked myself, "What's a topic that, while technically helpful, pretty much goes without saying and doesn't require a whole guide to understand?" "Blood bags," the little voice in my head whispered soothingly, "It literally says in the description of the item how to use them. It's so straightforward; absolutely the perfect topic to spend too much time writing a guide on." So, here I am, writing a guide on filling and using blood bags, along with other useful information to know about these medical items!

    Filling a Blood Bag

In order to begin filling blood bags, you'll first have to take two classes under the Biology section of Education. We don't want people accidentally sticking the needle up their nose (or other cavities, yikes) and not realizing the dangers of sharing needles (despite being cost-effective, you can sadly get some not-so-fun diseases and infections from using your friends' needles and vice-versa; I hear that coronavirus is pretty nasty these days and we certainly don't want that). So, most importantly, Intravenous Therapy is the course directly granting you permission to fill (and use!) blood bags. By default, this class will take 3 weeks to complete at a one-time cost of $3,500. However, Intravenous Therapy also has the prerequisite of Introduction to Biology, which by default takes 1 week to complete and another $200 to join. In total, you'll need to spend a maximum of sleeping through 4 weeks of class and pay a devastating, crushing total of $3,700 in education fees. Now, I'm rather sympathetic to all of you poor college kids barely scraping by and with the expensive costs of attending school in Torn, I'd like to make myself available to anyone in need of a grant; I'm willing to pay for anyone's education fees that ask. I promise the financial aid application only takes 7+ months to complete. Consider it a gift for actually reading this far. You're welcome.

Anyway, now that you've completed the required educations, you'll need Empty Blood Bag items in order to produce filled blood bags. These can be purchased from the Item Market for an average price of around $17,000 (at the time of this guide) or can be purchased from the Pharmacy for a flat rate of $15,000 (in order to unlock the Pharmacy in the City, you'll have to first complete every other Biology course and the Bachelor of Biology which takes... many weeks and at least $20k. Phew.)

Before you can use an Empty Blood Bag, you'll need at least 20% of your life, as filling each blood bag will consume this 20% of your life and add 3 hours to your Medical Cooldown. With some Empty Blood Bags now in your inventory, head on over to the Items tab and navigate to the Medical subtab and locate your Empty Blood Bags. Click the lil' "Use" checkmark next to your Empty Blood Bags and click the "k." message to do the deed and consume some of your worthless, pathetic life and store it in this precious, juicy blood pouch. Sprinkle on some salt and a pinch of smoky paprika. Your snack is successfully prepared! Enjoy as a spread or dip during a family gathering to add some spice and interesting conversations to your social functions.

While sticking the needle directly into the median cubital vein in your upper-arm (inner-elbow) is generally best, you may wish to prick the skin around the back of the knees or between the toes to hide the prick mark, if you're worried about your spouse thinking you're a junkie or anything.

So, a filled blood bag will now be added to your Items! This is the time when you finally get to see what flavor you are. How exciting! There are a total of 8 body flavors in Torn. This is probably where I should state what those 8 are, but as my exes will testify, I'm a bit of a sadist and will smugly make you wait for a few paragraphs. You like that bit of a tease, don't you.

    Using Blood Bags

Time to stick this needle right back in! Discard that earlier bit about not using the same needles; it'll surely get too expensive, so just use your old ones for now. To juice up again with your blood pouch, find a filled one in your Items, pop the cap, and drink up. Click "Use," tap "okie-dokie;" the whole thing. You know the deal. But OH MY gAWD wAITTTT!!¡!!i! Now you get to know the 8 body flavors, since, little important side note, certain types can only be used by certain other types, or else you'll DIE. Pretty much. Also known as an "Acute Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction," if you want to get even more unnecessarily wordy than this guide, which will essentially be like a drug overdose. Not fun.

Now, I started typing all the information about "this type of blood can use these types and can be used by these types," but it was so insanely boring and I'm honestly just incredibly lazy, so I'm going to plagiarize and steal borrow this fancy graphic from the Torn Wiki:

That's right, I stole that without permission. Fed me. Anyway, just be careful when using blood bags and whatnot, since they totally don't conveniently say in their descriptions which ones can be used by which. That'd be too easy and would nullify the point of this entire guide. Use my (stolen) graph for this sort of thing. Each filled blood bag you use will take off 100 minutes of your hospital stay by default, add 20% to your life, and add an hour to your Medical cooldown. I underlined that whole sentence to distract from the stolen graph. We've all moved on by now; stop complaining.

There's also The Blood Bag: Irradiated, which is gained after filling a blood bag while you have radiation poisoning. Pretty useless, so I'm not sure why I've already wasted two sentences on it. Don't use one unless you want a small amount of radiation poisoning.

    Edit: Self-Hosping w/ Blood Bags

Somebody had the audacity to point out that my guide was not actually complete (not-so-lovingly glaring at you now, DedeSilver). I suppose it is worth mentioning that blood bags are a great way to intentionally hospitalize yourself! All you have to do is try and juice up on and incompatible blood type and you'll be thrown in the hospital for a good while so... pretty effective at self-hosping! If you don't want to be randomly revived by some kind soul who thinks they're doing you a favor, you may want to visit your Preferences > General Settings and change who can revive you. Just remember to change it back if you're into freeloading as much as I am. Happy now, Dede?

    Honor Bars & Merits

There are several honor bars and awards obtainable through filling and using blood bags, so I'll go ahead and screenshot the Wiki page for -- Err, I mean, I'll write them out. Not nearly as beautiful as Harley & Co.'s presentation, but I think plagiarism once in a guide is enough.

First up, you can get the Transfusion honor bar for filling 250 blood bags and the Anaemic honor for filling 1,000 body-juice pods. The fancy Clotted honor is granted upon suffering from one of those "Cute Homo Transfer Rashes" or whatever it's called... Just use a blood bag that's incompatible with your type? There's a small, random chance you'll get the Vampire bar after using a blood bag, so good luck with that one. There's the Magical Veins merit for using 5,000 medical items, which I guess is applicable here. Similarly, there are merits available for using 500, 5,000, and 25,000 medical items.

    Wrapping This Up

Well... I don't know what else to write about, so I guess I'm done here. I wish you all the best of luck sticking metal straws in yourselves. I've learned from Andyman's articles that the best way to spread your own content is through shameless self-promotion in your own posts, so uh, if you've ever wanted to pop the marriage question to someone before and were wondering how to do it, perhaps you'd like to read my Guide to Indirectly Proposing. It statistically works 0% of the time and is somehow even less helpful than this guide, which is really saying something!

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed and have a good one out there! Stay salty (and paprika-y),

Not fun. Now, I started typing all the information about "this type of blood can use these types and can be used by these types," but it was so insanely boring and I'm honestly just incredibly lazy, so I'm going to [s]plagiarize and steal[/s] borrow this fancy graphic from the Torn Wiki: That's right, I stole that without permission. Fed me. Anyway, just be careful when using blood bags and whatnot, since they totally don't conveniently say in their descriptions which ones can be used by which. That'd be too easy and would nullify the point of this entire guide. Use my ([s]stolen[/s]) graph for this sort of thing. Edit: Self-Hosping w/ Blood Bags Somebody had the audacity to point out that my guide was not actually complete (not-so-lovingly glaring at you now, DedeSilver). Honor Bars & Merits There are several honor bars and awards obtainable through filling and using blood bags, so I'll go ahead and screenshot the Wiki page for -- Err, I mean, I'll write them out. Wrapping This Up Well... Stay salty (and paprika-y), ~Bapki

How to stay in hosp longer by using the wrong blood bag?
I'm sorry, are you.. are you suggesting my guide is incomplete? I've never been so offended in my whole life. I'm Bapki! I don't make mistakes.

Maybe you should go stick in an incompatible blood bag to be thrown in the hospital. Don't forget to change your preferences, if you don't want to be revived by merit-chasers: https://www.torn.com/preferences.php#tab=settings.

    Does this answer your question?

Edit: No, no it does not. How to stay in the hospital longer..? The best I can think of would be to remove any positive boosts to your medical item usage by changing to a faction with less medical upgrades? Great, I can't fully answer this so now my thread's open for sabotage by all those Q&A forum lurkers.

bapki is grateful for you pointing out they didn't include something important; bapki thanks you

No I am just a new player trying to understand the game by reading guide. You do write the guide for people like me yes?
Also the reply does answer my question thank you. Yeah I realize some factions do offer faster medical cd. I have to avoid them.

Imo go deeper about blood related self hosp. The number one reason people do self hosp using blood is for trade or have their bazaar open and number one reason ppl searching info about blood is to get self hosp through wrong blood bag. But everyone face same problem. Maxed out medical cd :/.

Buy rate: 94%-96% depending the day, cache types, and market trend! Same rate for any rank. Always buy always sell caches unless I sleep.

There's a very small chance of being immune. The only way to find out is to use the wrong type of blood bag. I'm of the mindset that this means anyone who has AB+ blood type can use every type of blood bag and therefore is immune to it. I don't know the percentage of people this is or if other blood types can also be immune to it.

    Nice guide, and almost comprehensive.

The irradiated blood bags reduce your battle stats - which is useful for completing certain Duke missions.

Blood bags of all types can be sold for money - fairly decent money for new players.
