Ever wanted to be part of improving Torn?

Tired of seeing outdated mechanics, which could do with some easy to implement updates?

Well then, lucky for you there is the Suggestion Forum! But hold up, don't go about spamming it with whatever pops up on your mind just yet - you have to plan it first if you want your suggestion to be taken seriously and possibly added to the game. I've seen way too many excellent ideas being discarted, simply because they weren't displayed properly or explained in a way that everyone could understand. As such, here are a few tips on making a successful suggestion:

1 - Post it on the correct forum: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=forums&f=4&b=0&a=0

Seems obvious enough, but you'd be surprised with the ammount of suggestions that get placed around all types of sub-forums when we have a specific one for this purpose. Even with MrFixer rearranging threads using RNG, chances are you'll have to post it on the correct forum for success.

If you don't yet have a fully idea formed, perhaps it's best you either post in your faction forums to see what your mates think, or maybe post it on the General Discussion or Questions & Answers forums, depending on how you want to approach seeking for feedback.

2 - Pick a short, but informative title.

Make sure people know what you are talking about just form the title, as this will increase the ammount of times people actually open your thread and read your suggestion, I'll post bellow a good and a bad example of this:

3 - Check out if your idea has already been posted.

There are hundreds of suggestions published, so sometimes it's easy to miss, no harm done. However, it's logical to first look around to see if your idea has been posted already, and simply rate it and bump it if it has. If you think it could be done better, then simply post in the thread on how to improve it, or contact the player that made it.

4 - Keep it simple, no one likes a big wall of text.

You want people to read and understand your point easily, typing down huge walls of text will tire out readers and put them off. Think about what you want to say, and try to explain it using as few words as possible. Here's an example of a bad suggestion:

5 - Be specific!

If your suggestion is too vague, even if it does achieve 100 rates, Ched might not implement it because you haven't specified exactly how you'd go about it. A good example is suggesting a new drug to be implemented that focuses on providing nerve, however you faily to suggest how much nerve it would provide, drug cooldown, places to buy it, name, etc.

6 - Include pictures whenever possible.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words... Even though this isn't always the case, it certainly seems to be so here. A good way to show what you intend to change, is to use the inspect element function. Simply right click something in torn and select "Inspect Element" and this menu will open up. Then you can search for the code line and edit it to show what you want to implement.

Afterwards, simply copy paste the image, or manually add it via the forum menu:



7 - Bump your suggestion regularly.

A lot of players don't look through more than the first couple pages in suggestions, so make sure to bump it up everytime it goes further down than these. I personally bump mine about twice a month, but I know some that do it more regularly. Sometimes good suggestions are missed because they never get bumped and they happened to be posted at a time where the forum was being flooded.

8 - Ask your friends and potentially interested parties to view it.

Your goal is to reach 100 rates so that Ched views it and provides input. Nothing like asking your mates for a helping hand to reach this goal. Another good way is to ask any potentially interested players. For example, if you have a racing suggestions, then it might be worth to shoot a message to the top racers and see what they think.

9 - Add a link to your profile and/or forum signature.

This is simply to help promote it and allow more people to view it.

10 - Once it reaches 100 rates, make a thread about it on Bugs & Issues.

This is the standard protocole for suggestions nowadays. Once it has reached 100 rates, if Ched hasn't replied on it, then simply make a thread in the bugs forum and link your guide - you'll get an answer very "soon"!
