    Guide To Picking Targets

Edit: Thank you for all the likes and glad I could help people out! My mailbox is still open to suggestions and questions for this guide..

    The Basics- Visual Info

    • Most Important Stats
      • Drugs: Note how many drugs they have taken for training. Drugs used for training is Xanax, Ecstasy, and sometimes LSD if they are drug free.
      • Level and Rank: Obviously don't attack a level 80 if you're level 30 unless you're a holder and have the stats. Rank can indicate stats which is explained further down.
      • Refills/Activity/Crimes: All indicate how active a player has been and how much more e than you they've been able to use.
      • Age: This can fool you. Players are getting strong fast these days so don't get too cocky if you're an old player but also be careful attacking older players with less drugs taken than you.
      • Attacks: Good to compare energy allocation
    • Other things to consider but usually not needed
      • Title
      • Faction
      • Awards
      • Property Happiness
      • Net worth
      • Stat enhancers used
Note: There's a Torn Stats script to display personal stat info on a player's profile. This can help you move a bit quicker. Doctor N Or Torn Tools can also do this if you have Torn Stats enabled in its settings.

Hidden Info and Ranks (method for low stat players)

Josephine has a similar method that's more in detail in her guide: https://www.torn.com/forums.php#/p=threads&f=61&t=16065473&b=0&a=0

This is a method I used at really low stats to find easy high level players and it takes time to understand. I would not suggest doing this if you are in a rush to find targets!
    • Look at ranks and their triggers.
    • Start picking targets.
      • The 3 visual things you can see is level, crimes, and net worth. from these 3 things, you can estimate their range of stats by adding up the triggers in your head--yes it does take a while to master but with practice you can decide in a couple of seconds.
      • For example, if someone has the same amount of crimes as you and the same net worth and level range but their rank is lower, then you should know quickly that their stats are much lower.
      • This method gets almost impossible when someone's net worth is negative so I would suggest sticking to the basics.
      • Since battle stats triggers stop at 250mil, under this is where this method is the most effective. For higher level/stat players you will have to carefully choose using their personal stats.

    Recognizing a Level Holder

    • There's some people that like to trick you or like to feel stronger for their level so they hold. After understanding how to determine if someone is stronger than you, it gets easy. Most obvious signs:
      • Rank: If you know the ranks list then you know that a level 18 being ranked outstanding is suspicious. Here is a rough estimation of what someone is normally ranked for their level:
        • Level RangeRank Range
          1-11Absolute Beginner to Reasonable
          11-15Novice to Veteran
          15-26Reasonable to Veteran
          26-31Competent to Professional
          31-50Veteran to Celebrity
          50-65Star to Champion
          65-75Celebrity to Heroic
75-100Idolised to Invincible (level 100 with all triggers)

        • The above chart is based on observation and is under the assumption that the player trains, levels, gains net worth over time, and does crimes as much as possible. There will always be exceptions.
      • Drugs Taken: Keep in mind some holders are drug free.
      • Award count: If someone is near your level with a big difference in awards then this can be a sign.
      • Age: An old low level player can indicate that they are holding.
    • Can you beat a level holder?
      • One advantage you may have over a level holder is life. So even if your stats are much lower, you may have a chance if you can do enough damage to them.
      • Consider the method I explained above to determine their stat range using their rank
      • In fast pace wars, I would suggest avoiding those that you think are holding unless you have a good amount of stats.

Quick ways to find targets to fight for chaining:

    • Use your advanced search if you are a donator
    • Check the bounty list for people you can beat
    • Look at the hall of fame list
    • Look at your blacklist (revenge!)
    • Find factions with lots of players in your stat range (be aware of retaliations by higher level members)
    • Incorporate mission targets into chaining (good way to get fair fights!)

    Concluding Note:

Please remember that Torn's attacking system is based on much more than a person's stat total. Stat balance is a huge factor and there's a big debate on what kind of balance is right. Armours, temporary weapons, weapon choice and experience, education, company specials, and other factors greatly influence your success in fighting as well. Try to be a well rounded player by investing in more than just the gym.

Might wanna add in that stats these days are about 50% of the battle! Armour and weapon stats along with temps in the mix can throw things massivley! You already mention potential faction passives which, again, are a huge part!

    Good guide though :D R+

I lightly touched on that in my first paragraph but now changed it and moved to a separate section because it is something that is often overlooked.

    Thanks :)

WAY over-complicated. It doesn't have to be that difficult, this is extremely impractical and lacks prioritization for the most important factors.

What do you consider the most important factors though? I tried to underline in the first section and give an explanation for each stat I see as important after that it gets more into thorough explaining for new players. I can try to be less wordy?

I wrote a guide on it, I guess I could do a more updated one though. (on the other combat aspects my guide covers, this part is pretty straight forward) One thing is for sure, someone trying to analyze all this stuff will certainly have their target taken from them.

How many (and what type of) drugs do they use? How many xanax in particular, each xanax is potentially 250 energy worth of training(This usually shows how long they have been in a PI/Pampered if they have one, so property can still be an important factor). How many crimes do they have compared to you (are they decent crimes?) This shows how active they are, and how often they spend their nerve reflects how often they spend their Energy. What property do they live in?How much HP do they have? Do they seem so close to you in strength that this could play a factor? It's rare but one of the final factors. How many refills have they used? Again this is another 150E per refill. The final and most minor factor is how active an attacker are they? The more hits they have made the more E they have not spent training. Are they an anti-druggie? That means they spent even more for those hits.
    • This is not 100% of course, but with it you can generally figure out if you can beat your opponent or not.
There are other factors sure, but the top 2 for all but the newest players will accurately assess well over 99% of your targets. HP is on there, but that's readily visible and a default consideration.

    Check Xanax-> If kill.

Well I see your point then. I should be more clear that when it comes to wars there's not always time to look at everything lol. And certain things definitely take priority. I was thinking more about pre-planning. Thanks for the input I'll make changes.

Was there a point in time when Xanax taken wasn't tracked in stats? Or did they add it retroactively?

Life, Rank, Awards are all immediately displayed, certainly... digging further is mandatory especially on mobile with no script guidance.

I think I did hear that some old player's xanax count isn't accurate due to a reset but don't quote me on that. Would have to ask someone older. Depending on how active they've been over the years it may not make a big difference.

And yeah fighting mobile is a pain so looking at level, awards, rank etc becomes more helpful there if you don't have time to look.

Edit: after seeing a couple posts, old players personal stats don't show all of their history but still in most situations, what you can see shows a lot

if it looks overcomplicated remember you only need to read it in detail when you are completely new - it will get streamlined in your head as you go :D

Thanks to Doctorn+tornstats setup one can have any neeeded details at your disposal as you look at a profile

    my simple checklist with priority:

    1. Xanax taken - duh (later on you'll have xanax/day automatically done in your head)

    2. Refills/Awards number - same

    3. Age/activity/attacks done/lsd+ecstasy; age/networth/xanax taken ratio for !3xnxFHCdiet restart /casino zombie restart/wtfisthis quick id :D

done - after this you shold have green/red light already :D if not then move to the next one or ?check more?

Shameless plug: if you want to be pretty sure get a spy :D anyone online in the law firm i work at will happily do that :D
