Chaining 2.0: A Guide to Respect

Thread created on 08:56:01 - 17/11/17 (8 years ago)|Last replied 06:41:32 - 26/04/26 (6 months ago)Yeah yeah. Here it is.
How does Chaining 2.0 work?
The most important thing to consider about chaining now is that it is merely a tool that will eventually supplement the new warring types competitive and destructive warring. For this reason, you are not restricted to a 500-man warbase anymore! To build a chain, you can attack anyone in torn that you like, although once these new warring types are released it will of course be beneficial to hit members of factions you are warring with.
Leaving, Mugging and Hosping a target will all count as a successful hit on the chain. The first 10 hits must be done in a 5-minute warming up period. Beyond this point you will have 5 minutes to make a successful attack - once you do the chain counter will increase and this timer will reset, if you fail to do so the chain will cooldown and you can not restore it by hitting. You must be in a faction at the beginning of a chain in order to contribute toward it. If you leave after it starts, you may not return.
Previously there were so-called bonus hits at the 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100th hit of a chain, where additional respect is earned. In 2.0, there are 13 bonuses to watch out for.Bonus Respect Hit #10 10 Hit #25 20 Hit #50 40 Hit #100 80 Hit #250 160 Hit #500 320 Hit #1000 640 Hit #2500 1280 Hit #5000 2560 Hit #10000 5120 Hit #25000 10,240 Hit #50000 20,480 Hit #100000 40,960
These bonuses are a flat value. No multiplier will affect them anymore, not even mugging!
The Multipliers
In Chaining 2.0 respect earned per hit is calculated as the product of a number of different multipliers that are applied under different conditions. These I will be referring to as base respect, chain scale, killtype, retal, group, war, fair fight and overseas. These may all stack, except at the incremental bonuses mentioned above. Icons will now appear on the chain dropdown hitlist and show a summary of the multipliers applied.
Base Respect
Base respect is the respect earned based on the level of your target, and it follows the pattern show in Figure 1.
To calculate your expected base respect, take the level of your target as x and apply this function:
Base Respect* = (natural log (x) + 1.0) / 4.0
*round to 2 decimal places for accurate respect calculations. E.g. Level 83 = 1.3547... - round to 1.35
Chain Scale
As the chain count increases, a multiplier between 1x and 2x will be applied to your base respect earned. This increases very slowly between 10 and 100,000.
Taking the chain hit number as x, to calculate what the chain scale multiplier will be, use this function:
Chain Scale Multiplier = (log ( x ) + 3.0) / 4.0
At bonuses this multiplier is fixed at the specific bonus multiplier - the chain scale multiplier is not applied on top.
Killtype
You should be generally looking to Leave an opponent. Mugging applies a 0.75x bonus (in other words, a 25% reduction). While Hosping gives you the same respect leaving would, if you find a target that gives good experience or respect gains, you want them to be out of hospital as soon as possible, as the respect earned from hitting the same target multiple times does not depreciate.
Retaliations
Retaliations are when you HOSPITALISE someone who has just made an attack on one of your faction members. These must be completed within 5 minutes, and provide a bonus of 1.5x. Only one retaliation hit will credit this multiplier. If you are hit twice or more within 5 minutes, a retaliation will not be credited, even if the first hit was not a retaliation.
Group attacks
Group attacks provide a bonus of up to 1.5x depending on the number of additional attackers in the fight. The first additional attacker provides a bonus of 25%, the second 12.5%, the third 6.25% - so on and so forth. These %'s are added together and this figure is then applied as the multiplier. This can be expressed as:
Group Multiplier = 1.5 - 0.25 * (0.5^(x - 1))
where x is the number of additional attackers. Each attacker must be in your faction to count.
Warring attacks
Attacking someone you are at war with, be it Territorial*, Competitive or Destructive, will yield a multiplier of 2x.
*You must knock someone off the wall for both the 2x war multiplier AND the default 3x fair fight multiplier.
Fair Fights
This is an area I'm still looking in to, as my data doesn't quite provide a nice formula yet. I will update as soon as possible. The basics, however are as follows:
- If you attack someone with ~half the stats as your own or higher, you will receive a 3x multiplier on your hit.
- If you attack someone who's stats are lower than half of yours, this multiplier will degrade toward 1x the more you crush them.
- Any war hits (territory, destructive and competitive) default to a 3x multiplier.
- Hits at the incremental bonuses default to a 3x multiplier.
- If your target is above a certain threshold total (or score perhaps) fair fight will default to 3x - this is possibly <2b.
Overseas attacks
Hitting a target overseas gives a nice little boost of 1.25x.
Maximising your chain
The most important thing to remember if you want to maximise the respect gained from your chain - appropriate target selection. Fair fight is the highest multiplier (excluding bonuses) and so you should ensure that for the 99% of hits made between bonuses every member participating is picking targets that they are relatively close to in stats. You should also look to claim every retaliation available, and hit every single enemy off the wall that you can. If you can work with a neighbouring faction to secure lots of wall hits back and forth, this has proven to be very effective!*As of 13/02/18 bonuses are much simpler. Just hit a level 100 and do not mug them!
**As of 30/10/18 bonuses are now even simpler! Hit anyone, anyhow!
**As of 30/10/18 respect lost is now 25%, up from 10%.

Seems it will be handy to have a spreadsheet for warring now...

plus the journey is much more fun when you discover something new :D
Also lets not forget about prox's karma farm.... that's more fun to watch than anything else

Posted on 20:06:15 - 17/11/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkBase respect has been nerfed. The new formula is:
base respect = (natural log ( x ) + 1.0)/7.5
where x is the level of your opponent. Will update thread when I'm a little less annoyed at the nerf :D

Posted on 16:45:16 - 19/11/17 (8 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkThis is some great information, I was hoping someone would put something like this together!
If I may make a suggestion - I think it would have a lot of value if you also went over chaining basics - for example:
1) Respect and other requirements for unlocking the different chain lengths
2) What officially starts a chain (any attack starts the bar, but do you need to get to 10 before it really officially starts, etc)
3) How long do you have to make subsequent hits, and is there a way to extend that timer anymore (no)
4) Who can you hit to extend the chain (anyone)
5) When the chain dies, is there a way to save the chain (no) - how long does it take various chain lengths to time out, etc
6) A look at chain efficiency (given average respect amounts, what length of chain results in the most average respect per hit)
If you could expand on it in this way it would be a real A++ thread to have all faction members read - would be the perfect one stop shopYou realize the sun don't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round -
