Forum Etiquette Golden Rules

1. Read all the forums, chat and private message (PM) rules and guidelines before posting.

2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.

3. Use a meaningful title for your thread, messages or chats.

4. Do not use a forum, chats or PM to promote anything.

5. Be respectful, civil and not abusive. Personal differences are better handled by game play, faction wars and private emails.

6. Stay on topic. Do not attempt to derail or graveyard threads or chats. Let the staff do their job.

7. Ignore spammers, respond to them in personal emails or not at all, let the staff do this at their sole discretion.

8. Do not submit a post that requires readers to download or to create lag in the forums,chats, provide a link to the information.

9. Use plain text over HTML if you want your post to be readable by everyone and enjoy the new forum,chat editing, and graphics.

10. In order to be understood, use english,correct spelling, grammar and avoid slang to make the phrase clearly understood.

11. Do not double post (post the same message twice in one thread) or cross post (place the same message across several forums).

12. Act in a respectful manner to all, be helpful; help others in the game often, especially new players to the game.

13. Do not use all caps or SHOUT in your posts.

14. When replying to a post, do not quote more from the previous post than you have to.

15. Do not post abuse, verbal attacks on others threads,chats and interrupt a topic of discussion,especially in Bugs & Suggestions.

16. Do not use others threads,chats for a private conversation or talking over the thread Op.

17. Forums,chats prohibit other games, cracks or improper downloading of software and similar topics.

18. Watch your sense of humor, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages. PG 13

19. Do not use political, abusive, discriminatory, inflammatory statements in forums,chats or annoying signatures.

20. Do not post any information that you want private. Posts must not contain personal, identifiable information or content embarrassing to yourself or others.

21. Do not post content that violates any copyright or licensing agreements.

22. Do not post "empty"or useless responses. Only post responses when you actually have something valid to contribute. Use the Karma "vote up or down" function as appropriate, then move on. Reporting a group of players or a identifiable group of players (faction) threads will results in an immediate permaban at the staffs sole discretion.

23. Write concisely and do not ramble, and edit all your posts for content and quality.

24. Do not use words like "important" in your threads, chats or CAPS in subject line.

25. Do not chastise newbies, older players or the staff, respect all the players, staff and owners in the game.

26. Forum Ops use the forum controls in both the faction and company forums to moderate both content and ban users.
(Consider expanding the use the faction and company forum tools to moderate both Bugs and Suggestion threads,then expand to all threads to increase quality of threads, Ops controls, Forum Etiquette rule self compliance, and reduce staff thread burden of thread Edits, Moderation and Graveyarding.)

27. Players consistently violating any of the above rules will be forum,chat and/or game permabanned, at the staffs sole discretion.

One of the largest and most successful game communities is the "Steam" game community, their Forum,Chat Rules and Guidelines are game standards, and easily adopted by Administrators/Moderators to this game to improve the game quality, content, and safety for players.

The Torn community deserves the best Rules and Guidelines to keep leadership in the gaming community, and it is high time for change to compete. After all the years of hard work, creating the RESPO platform and now implementing all the Torn 2.0 Upgrades, time for the forums to keep pace with the competition, use and enforce with no exceptions the Rules and Guidelines of player conduct.



FORUM RULES AND GUIDELINES


Make sure you are posting constructive criticism, whether it's negative or positive. Contrary to what some people believe, we do take feedback from here into account.

Notice: Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate.

I. General Forum Rules:

Do not:

• Flame or insult other members.
• Bypass the swear filter or other filters.
• Abuse or encourage abuse of the Reputation, Post Reporting, or Private Messaging Systems
• Post personally identifiable information (i.e. name, address, email, phone number, etc.)
• Bump threads
• Derail a thread's topic.
• Post links to phishing sites.
• Post spam (i.e. +1, 10char, rickrolls) or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content.
• Repetitively post in the incorrect forum (example: trade requests belong in trading forum).
• Openly argue with a moderator. Contact the Moderator via a private message.
• Share your account. Forum accounts are intended for the use by one person.
• Create alternate, backup, or multiple accounts.
• Publicly post or otherwise share PMs with other users unless you have the expressed permission of the sender to do so. Private Messages are intended to be just that - private.

II. The following topics are strictly off limits, including in external links:

• Porn, gross stuff, or anything else not safe for work
• Piracy, warez, Leaked content.
  *Any* discussion of piracy will result in a permanent ban from the Steam Forums.
• Cheating, hacking, game exploits
• Threats of violence or harassment, even as a joke
• Posting copyrighted material such as magazine scans
• Soliciting, begging, auctioning, selling, advertising, referrals
• Racism, discrimination
• Drugs, alcohol
• Religious, political, and other âprone to huge argumentsâ threads

III. No Backseat Moderating:

Let the Forum Moderators do the moderating. Backseat Moderating is when people who are not Moderators try to enforce the forum rules. Whenever you see a person breaking the rules, take advantage of the "Report this post to a moderator" link. Or simply IGNORE the offensive post(s) or thread. The most common backseat reply is the "+1 in before lock" phrase. Backseat moderating is annoying, and pointless.

IV. Report Post to the Moderators:

Should you observe a fellow forum member breaking these rules please report the post by clicking the Report Post button located to the left of every post, or feel free to contact any of the Forum Staff.

V. Lifetime Achievement Award:

Users who are found to be repeat offenders will be removed from the forums, at Ched's and the Torn staffs discretion.

This has been posted in the original JFK Art of War (JWAR) forums, since the start of the faction, it was the third post ever, and all generals, and honorary generals are encouraged to follow these guidelines. Unfortunately, there is alot of misperceptions reguarding our faction, our values and our commitment to making the game better for all, due to almost 3+ years of faction forum wars.
