Bounties. For some they are a divine intervention, a tool to dish revenge on those stronger than themselves. For others, they are a disaster which renders their game near unplayable. And then there is those who abuse bounties.

Because some players are unrelenting in their bounty-campaigns, some people have been leaving the game. But this is not necessary. It is very easy to survive even the harshest of bounty attacks.

    Step 1: Behave yourself
Even though some of the victims are pretty vocal in the forums about how unfair it is they got bountied, usually there is a good reason for them. It may sound as a Captain Obvious remark... but consider asking the one placing the bounty for the reason. And do so politely. Often, people will tell you about the unwritten rules which you broke. Stop breaking the rules, learn from it, and you will come out of the tsunami alive. Sure, there are pricks in the streets of Torn, but most of us just want to send you a message. If they see the message arrived, there is no need to continue spending money.

    Step 2: Riding the wave

    Step 2a: The cheap option
Being in the hospital is pretty bad for your progress. You can't do any crimes and even worse, you cannot train. So it is now important you manage your energy wisely. The easiest thing is to make sure you stay in the hospital, until your energy bar is full. Don't mind your crimes for now, just look at your e-bar. Now is a good time to start with step 1 if you haven't done so yet, or to read some guides. Is your energy bar filled up (or are you about to go to sleep)? Then now is the time for some fast action. Quickly morph out and immediately hit the gym. If you are lucky you are still alive, so try to do some crimes. Done? Awesome. Maybe you can visit the casino or something, but at least you got the essentials before you got hosped again.

    Step 2b: The expensive option
Of course, you can also just get someone to buy off your bounties. But this is gonna deplete your bank. And usually, the other guy has more money than you anyway.... This option is no longer available

Step 2c: The option which might make you some friends
You can also contact someone who has hospitalized you and ask them to agree with a deal. For instance, you can suggest that they pay you half the reward, or perhaps morphine + cash. That enables you to morph out, get hosped, morph out, get hosped and so forth. That is an effective way to clear some bounties.

But whatever option you chose, remember that this isn't some FarmVille game. This is Torn. Violence is the only language spoken here. If you are weak, it is best to keep your head down and try to make friends. Don't be a rude prick. Because people are going to hunt you down for it. You WILL not succeed. You WILL lose. Trust me.

Does this mean you just have to take it all? Nah...just play wise, grow stronger and get even later on. Revenge is a dish best served cold...

    Edit
Myers[2084026] pointed out that "Joining a security firm also blocks bounty's being placed on you. ". While this is not incorrect, it needs some clarification: you can spend 20 jobpoints from the Private security Company to be immune to bounties for 48 hours.

DrVoid [2608187] added: At security firm, it is 72 hour bounty protection for 20 Job points. It doesn't clear the bounties which are already placed. It prevents from new bounties to be placed. (..) You have at least be able to join a 7*+ Private security company to continuously evade the bounty storm (21 JP per 3 days)

This should be a fairly obvious style of play when you're bountied. Then again I've never really had a problem with getting bountied. Maybe a bid pin cushion for a filler but not singled out

I'm afraid I have to fundamentally disagree with this guide, almost in its entirety...

    Here's my take on it:

Step 1: Whatever you're doing, do it more!

That's right, if someone cares enough to spend even shit amounts of cash on bountying you, that means you're doing something right. Keep doing it. Do it more. Do it in variations, so that your routine does not become stale. Obviously, this does not apply if your reason for being bountied involves violating game rules, in which case you should rethink your life before you get banned. Other than that though, right on, keep doing what brings home the bounties! Edit: If your bountier is not a cowardly anon, be sure to mail them repeatedly with taunts. Try to goad them into bounting you until you quit.

    Step 2: Profit!!!

Guess what? No, the answer isn't chicken butt, not this time. Most Torn players are and will be continue to be oblivious to the reason for your bounties. However, if you're always bountied, and always in the hospital, increasing numbers of players will begin to have sympathy toward you. Some of them will send meds, in increasing numbers. Do not use them, but sell them, and invest the money. The longer you ride this wave, the more you win! The bigger your bounties, the better for you! Make friends who will help you collect the bounties and share the money with you in exchange for medding out. Use this but don't be too obvious about it or else your bountier will figure out that they're just getting played.

It worked for MB, Harley. Bet.

Edit: In fact, since I'm being insulted I shall share the amazing tale.

MB was an Irish transsexual Torn player, who at one time caused quite the stir in the forums by not only being openly mtf trans, but also brought up the fact in threads completely unrelated to transsexuals, turning the discusion to transgendered persons. This eventually caused another player no longer with us (we'll call him UE for the sake of this discussion) who decided to bounty MB indefinitely. She did precisely as my guide states and made a fortune. Can still be done, if you can goad the bountier into high enough bounty amounts.

Fact is, bountiers are lazy folk who cba to spend their own energy so they choose to throw money at it. As such, they can never be on top of the situation.

Or they can just get other people to bounty you at low prices and justify their bounties whenever you complain...
