This is an Introduction to Texas Hold'em

The best way for beginners to start to the game is to master Texas Holdem.
Poker is a game of your best five cards whatever version you play.
The standard deck of cards you play with has 52 cards in it, arranged in 4 suits :-
    hearts, diamonds, clubs & spades.
Ace is the high card in poker with the deuce being low.
In poker, the suits have no ranking; they are all equal.

The first step to mastering poker is to learn the hand rankings. These rankings remain the same for all forms of poker.
Well start with the worst hand:
    A B
Here you have nothing. In the event of two people both having nothing, the hand with the highest card will win.
Therefore hand A (Ace high) beats hand B (King high).
If two hands have the same high card, the next highest card is the deciding factor.
Continuing with the next best hand:
    A B
Here you have a pair. In the event of two people both having a pair, the hand with the highest pair will win.
Therefore hand B (pair of kings) beats hand A (pair of Queens).
If two hands have the same pair then it is the next highest card which is the deciding factor. This deciding card is called a kicker.

Continuing with the next best hand after a pair:
    A B
Here you have two pair. It is the highest pair which is the deciding factor.
Therefore hand A (Pair of Kings, pair of Threes) beats hand B (pair of Queens, pair of Jacks).
If two hands have the same two pair it is how high the fifth card (or kicker) is which is the deciding factor.
Continuing with the next best hand after two pair:
    A B
Here you have three of a kind (also known as trips or a set). As with a pair, it is the highest three of a kind that wins.
Therefore hand A (three Tens) beats hand B (three Eights).
If two hands have the same three of a kind, it is the kicker which is the deciding factor. This is a possibility in games such as Holdem, as will be seen later.

Continuing with the next best hand after three of a kind:
    A B
Here you have a straight. A straight is five consecutive cards in a row.
There are two important things that a beginner needs to remember with straights:
    i) They do not have to be the same suit
ii) It has to be 5 cards in a row. 3 or 4 cards are worthless.
If two players both have a straight, it is the player with the highest straight who wins. Therefore hand B (King high straight) beats hand A (Seven high straight).

The straight (along with the straight flush, which we will see later) is the only situation where an Ace can also be low. The hand below is a Five high straight (as the Ace is counted as a low card)
It would be beaten by both hands A and B above as it is only five high

    A hand of Q, K, A, 2, 3 is not a valid straight.

Continuing with the next best hand after a straight:
    A B
Here you have a flush. A flush is five cards of the same suit.
    i) The cards do not need to be consecutive, as with a straight
ii) It has to be 5 cards of the same suit. 3 or 4 suited cards are worthless.
If two players both have a flush, it is the player with the highest flush who wins. Therefore hand B (Ace high flush) beats hand A (Queen high flush).
Continuing with the next best hand after a flush:
    A B
Here you have a full house. It is three of a kind and a pair.
It is the highest three of a kind which is the deciding factor. If both hands have the same three of a kind, then it is the pair which decides which hand wins.
Therefore hand B (Queens full of Twos) beats hand A (Sevens full of Tens).

Continuing with the next best hand after a full house:
    A B
Here you have four of a kind, also known as quads. This is a hand you will rarely see in poker.
In the very rare occurrence of two players having four of a kind, it is the player with the highest four of a kindwho wins. Therefore hand B (four Queens) beats hand A (four Tens).
Continuing with the next best hand after four of a kind:
    A B
Here you have a straight flush. This is the highest hand in the poker rankings. With a straight flush, you have five consecutive cards of the same suit.
Here hand A (Ace high straight flush) beats hand B (Jack high straight flush).

Note that an Ace can also be low to make a straight flush. Therefore 5-4-3-2-A of spades is a valid straight flush. (Q-K-A-2-3 of spades isn't a straight flush; it's just a regular flush - five of the same suit.)Hand A is also known as a Royal Flush. This is the highest possible hand in poker.
Remember that suits have no ranking. A royal flush in spades and a royal flush in hearts are equal and would share the pot.

"Remember that suits have no ranking. A royal flush in spades and a royal flush in hearts are equal and would share the pot."

You do understand that there is no possibility to split a pot if you have a royal flush that isn't just on the board, and especially not two royal flushes of different suits?
