Managing your rehab bills

Thread created on 16:33:55 - 23/04/16 (10 years ago)|Last replied 04:50:22 - 21/08/26 (2 months ago)Whenever you use a drug, you gain addiction. The primary way of removing that addiction is to fly to Switzerland and buy a number of rehabs at the drug clinic there. This starts off pretty cheap, but the more times you visit, the more expensive it gets. However, there are a few tricks to slow down that increase.
The first thing to realise is that the effectiveness of rehab is directly related to the number of times you have rehabbed. The more $250k rehabs you have done, the less addiction they remove. However, it isn't directly related to the number of drugs you have taken; it is possible to have taken a lot of drugs and still keep your rehab bill (relatively) low.
There are several ways to slow down the inevitable rehab cost creep; none of these are game-changers, but over time they will have an effect. I talk primarily about xanax, because that tends to be the drug that is most used, but it applies to any addiction.
Join a faction with good specials
If you are in a faction with a high addiction special, your addiction will go up more slowly. At the highest level, Addiction-XXV, this will reduce the rate at which you gain addiction by 50%, which is a great starting point. Faction specials can also reduce the cost of a rehab from $250k to $200k - another 20% reduction.
Join the right company
The 5* special at a cruise liner or a nightclub allows you to spend job points to reduce your addiction level. A xanax is 35 addiction points, so in a 10* company, that is over a quarter of a xanax a day for 'free'. If you are in an Addict-XXV faction, that moves up to over half a xanax a day.
Make the most of your natural addiction decay
Every night around 3am Torn time, your addiction level is reduced. If you are going to rehab, try to make it early in the morning, Torn time, so that you have lower addiction to be rehabbed. And when you get back, take your drugs before midnight, so that the overnight rehab decay gets used as well.
Don't rehab fully after a xanax overdose
You won't be able to take another drug for 24 hours; If you want to go rehab for the happy, you may as well just buy one, or else hold on until just before the cooldown runs out, as rehabbing fully will just mean that you waste that evening's natural decay.
Don't fully rehab
Just don't do them all. If you need 8 rehabs costing $2.00m to fully rehab, instead just use 7 at $1.75m and leave the last one. That rehab would probably not be fully used, so hang on to it until the next time. On average, this will save you $125k every time you visit rehab, and more importantly it will reduce the number of rehabs used by a half-rehab for every visit. That all adds up, as long as you start early enough.
Save up your addiction
If you are going away for a week or two, and you won't be able to log in - don't rehab before you go! Let natural addiction work for you over those days and come back to a much smaller rehab bill.

Posted on 12:58:31 - 29/04/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI often hear people talking about a drug addiction icon that reveals their current addiction percentage, I have never seen such icon. Does this addiction percentage icon only become available after completing an education course, or above a certain % threshold? Or is it simply a myth? Many thanks, Sval.

Posted on 13:11:47 - 29/04/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkNope, not a myth. It shows up after so many drugs are taken and you have a certain amount of addiction. It appears as a little brain icon. If you hover over it when it appears, it will say a percentage of addiction. I usually wait for that to appear and say like 5% before i go rehab. Iv noticed that when it nears 7% i'll get kicked from edu classes.
If you keep taking enuff drugs without rehab, you'll eventually see it appear.

I am averaging two -> three Xanax a day, and I have recently overdosed, so I guess I would have expected to see this drug addiction icon by now? How many xanax or drugs of your choice would you say it takes before the icon appears?
Your feedback is very much appreciated. -

Check out bogie's guide, may give you a better idea on it. Im going to say somewhere around 10 or so, but that's just a guess. I have noticed tho that once it shows up, if i don't rehab by the time it hits about 7% i should start expecting to get kicked from classes. All depends on how often you rehab if you get the icon or not.

Posted on 17:06:49 - 07/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI've heard that quitting drugs will also lower your rehab costs later, basically that the longer you wait before starting on drugs again the lower the rehab will cost. I only have one source, who claimed his bill was exceeding his total income so he quit drugs for a few months. Once he started again, the rehab was lower then it was when he quit.
Note: I have not tested this myself, and I have not read any similar stories - still something worth checking out. -

Posted on 22:09:10 - 11/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkI just started rehabbing, and I thought I understood how it works, but I clearly don't. First time I went in with like 7% addiction, I did one rehab, it said it removed 23%, when I landed back in torn, I had 4% addiction left. Today I went with 6% addiction, did two rehab, it removed 51% and when I landed in torn brain icon was gone, I then took a xanax, thinking for sure brain will show up with at least 1%, but no. So I don't know...

Posted on 05:58:20 - 12/06/16 (10 years ago)Post link copied to clipboard Copy post linkOkay, I will try to explain it. The figures in this explanation are not real, but they serve for an explanation.
You take 10 xanax, which gives you a total of 350 addiction points, and that shows a little grey brain and reduces your stats by a 1% passive.
Then, you take another 5 xanax. Your addiction is now 525 points, and you have 4% passive reduction.
Now you go to rehab, and your single rehab takes off 100 points of addiction. You have 425 addiction left, and 2% passive reduction.
Another rehab, another 100 off, you are at 325 with no passive reduction. You are not free of all addiction - the next xanax will take you over and give you a 1% reduction.
My method says that you do another three rehabs, which leaves 25 addiction and has fully utilised five rehabs.
The 7% you saw as a stat reduction was not your addiction level. It was the outcome of that addiction, and it doesn't scale directly from your addiction. It only starts appearing after you have crossed a threshold.
