First of all this is not exactly a guide as much as opinions and advice. Let's start with what not to do in Torn.




What not to do


1) Don't beg. I'm begging the new players, please don't beg for money or items. You'll just piss off older players and they'll bounty your ass.



2)Don't join a faction for at least 14 days. You get immunity from older players for 14 days from your joining day, only players who can attack you are the ones that are new to the game(who are not older than 14 days). If you join a faction it halts your game progress a lot because you will be in hospital the whole time.



3)Don't fall for scams. Torn is filled with scammers. Let's say you find an item in the city, first check it's value in the market and then sell it.





4)Don't keep a lot of money on your hand. People are always looking to mug you.






5)Don't boast about your net worth or stats on any of the chats. People are always waiting for an opportunity to strike.






6)Don't use your energy to search the dump. Yes! this is a mistake many new players do. I did it myself, I spent who knows how much energy to search the dump only to end up with bunch of flowers or bricks. Instead use your energy to train or attack.






7)Don't go for high nerve crimes as soon as you start. Go with searching for money(2N) or Selling illegal CD's(3N) for a while
before going for high nerve crimes.





8)Don't gamble. You'll end up loosing more money than you make.






9)Don't spend your merits on awareness. I know it sounds weird but spending merits on awareness is no use. Instead spend them on either battle stat gains or education.


What to do


1)IRC! Three magical letters. I said don't beg for money or items, but that doesn't mean you won't get anything for free. Every now and then there are giveaways in Torn IRC(https://www.torn.com/irc/lightIRC/index.html) Some giveaways are for things like candies and some are for awesome items like Donator Packs.






2)Speaking of Donator Packs, get one. They cost around $5. If you can't afford to pay $5, you can always buy DP's with game money. They cost around 23M. I know what you're thinking 'I'm a new player. How am I supposed to get 23M for a DP?'.






3)https://www.torn.com/forums.php?p=threads&f=61&t=15948110&b=0&a=0 follow this guide and you'll have donator status for 15 days and a goodie bag worth 24M.





4)Rent a PI or a castle. They might cost a lot but they are totally worth it. Where do I get the money to do that? Simple, sell that goodie bag for 21-23M, my advice is that don't open the goodie bag, it's not worth it.




5)Ask for help from older players. Notice how I say ask for help and not beg. Ask them about game mechanics and community, there are several players on global chat who will gladly help you to understand the game.




6)Join a company. As soon as you reach lvl 3, join a company. Don't be greedy. Take whatever pay they offer(it won't hurt you to negotiate) because you'll be getting regular trains. I personally advice new guys to join either a flower shop or toy shop. Flowers and Plushies are always in demand and you can make a lot of profit.




7)Trading! The most important part of torn. I suggest you buy 100 beers everyday. You can buy the for 5 bucks and sell them for 750 buck each if you can find the right buyer.





8)Find a spouse. Go back to point number 4, it sounds like PI's and castle cost a lot right? Split the rent with a spouse. Just make sure not to fall for scams.





9)Buy a bazaar for 250 points from the points building.Bazaars can be really helpful.
