I'm attempting to write a story, but have a problem with keeping myself motivated. The current story is based on a reality of middle earth type scenery, demons, angels, magic, and severe limitation to mortals. (To be entirely fair, role players must assume a mortal role, but may join any sort of faction) Now with the given NPCs and restrictions, this role play may be fairly complex, but I find that to be the beauty of it. As I have yet to begin writing, the general idea is fairly open and individuals are free to roam and manipulate themselves and the world around them as they wish.

I believe an explanation of the world and it's NPCs would explain much further. There are seven archangels, each with nine deciples, and thirteen archdemons, each with their own kingdom. The deciples are risen mortals that have taken their places as angels while the kingdoms are made up of the sinful dead souls of the past. Particularly sinful and powerful souls have grown to be noticed by their lord archdemons and given some of their lords' power in exchange for servitude. In the mortal realm, there are nine elders known as sages, three archmages, and ten forgotten heroes. Altogether, there are five realms. (The fade, heaven, hell, purgatory, and the living world) As you may have guessed, most of the role play will take place in the mortal realm. There are eighteen factions among the mortals given their belief, standings, and occupations, but are not necessary to be a part of.

There is one overall mortal race to play as, but there are different areas to define them. Northern, western, eastern, and southern hemispheres tend to dictate original background.(North tends to be more mountainous and frigid, producing more sturdy and thick individuals, South is a more jungle and rainforest type land, producing more nimble, quick people to avoid carnivorous predators, East is a more grassland type area with more fertile land and kingdoms along with more prideful people, and the west is mostly an isolated desert wasteland where caravans travel as a faster but more dangerous route, hence also a high volume of thieves and bandits. The few who live in the West tend to be very honorable, but only at their own price in gold.) There are random splotches of differentiating terrain, but not quite common. Though distinction between people based on where they are from normally is not thought about in this world, each person is given a fair chance anywhere pretty much. The main factors in judgement of others is in their actions, beliefs, and groups they may be part of.

Magic has a few different areas. There are mainly pyromancy, aquatic magics, auramancy(the use of one's own will and life force), foresight(which comes more as a natural gift to those who normally practice it), and necromancy.(highly looked down upon and tends to form a personal relation between the individual and the realm of hell while normal magics are drawn from one's own intuition of another realm known as the fade) Magic requires intense study and it would be impossible to really "know it all" due to the number of uses and conflicting values in a person's mind.

The eighteen factions are the Warriors guild, the Scholars, Dreamwalkers, the Black Nails mercenaries, the Visionaries, the Whispercloaks assassins, the College of Solomon(founded by one of the three archmages), the Order of Raguel(mainly following the values of justice and order given by one of the archangels), The Honored(a proud group of contractors), the Tribe of Beleth(a group worshipping the demon of pride and focused on prestige in his eyes), The Order(a priesthood of healers), the Red Legion mercenaries, the Fearless(a barbaric and basic group of people only focused on the survival of eachother), The Covenant(a religious order attempting to spread their belief of a god, which the angels and demons refuse to openly accept themselves), the Baron Council( a group of politics and high class officials from around the world), and the Way of Light.(a group of priests believing in a life of peace and servitude in hopes of a place in the realm of heaven after death) If there are any questions concerning further detail, feel free to ask. Otherwise, enjoy your time here and really develop your character. The better your character, the more likely they may be written into the actual story. I will give my character as an example.

Perseus Vandell: Young age of twenty six, six two in height, long grey hair, faded black cloak with silver ring on left index finger, deep blue eyes, ghostly white caucasian, wandering exiled student of the College of Solomon faction, goal of redemption and understanding, seeker of knowledge, friendly but reclusive, normally lost in thought but also aware, metaphorical thought process, very analytical

After a long and perilous journey through the desert said to house the gates to hell, Vandell is disappointed to have found nothing of the sort. Instead, he finds a small town surrounding an oasis close to the eastern plains. It is now as his tongue separates the cracked lips that he realises that the hydration spell from earlier has worn off. Parched and weak, he enters the village, coming close to the waters edge. His reflection bears shame in his eyes as he kneels to drink. As he does, he can feel the water trickle down his throat, soothing and replenishing him. To the right, he sees a few children have stopped their games to inspect him from a distance. With a faint smile, he searches his pockets for the last of his rations. Childishly and generously, he offers each child a slab of dried meat, leaving himself a small strip. "Go on, you must be hungry. The plains are still a few miles away. At your age, that is quite the distance. Enjoy, its very thick and filling."

*I'm interested in joining, but the OP leaves out a LOT of information that I would have no way of knowing. Are the races of playable characters similar to or exactly like Middle Earth? The landscapes, how different are they? How does magic work? Are there different types, and is the type of magic you use based on race? If I wanted to play a half-elf, for example, would that be acceptable?*

*When you read a book, is it in a wall-of text-format, or is it spaced out, and organised?

Perhaps if the OP were a bit more organised with all that information, it would be more approachable...*

The idea is solid, but it seems like you have a lot of work to do. What are the benefits of each class, and how can you balance stats for characters in the same class, but from a different region? Their methods may be the same, the their body build and equipment would all vary based on their region.

The regions' people all have active contact giving means to mostly similar culture. There are no stats. This world is fantasy, but places logic on realistic boundaries given the world.

Aleena Bell is about 4'11" and weighs 118. She is trained by The Order and uses auramancy, primarily for healing others using her own life force. She has a very strong spirit, which is why she was accepted by The Order as well. She has black hair, clear sky blue eyes, and wears a healer's robe with the trappings of The Order at all times. She wanders the would, going where the fates guide her. She builds her spirit energy by living a stoic, austere life, and has almost no material possessions. Yet, as a travelling healer, she never wants for any of her basic needs, and carries just enough gold to pay for a place to sleep and another meal.

Aleena approaches Perseus, seemingly out of nowhere. She is smiling.

"That was a kind act, and, since you seem to be travelling alone, just this once, I offer to join you in our travels. I will stay as long as you like, but after you send me away, our paths will never again cross. I will wait by the edge of the water. When you decide, meet me there, and let me know."

Aleena is simple and pure. She is chaste and idealistic. Some say she looks like an angel, by virtue of the sheer goodness she exudes.

"Children are the voice of the future. What we leave for them is what we leave for the world. I would be honored to travel with a member or the prestigious order, but I must warn you, at my side, the world will seem much darker. You need not wait, only to be sure of your own decision. Many dangers and sins trail behind my feet, and surely they lie ahead as well." Perseus replies

After a moment, a question comes to his mind. "What is it that brings you to this place? Desert surrounds all directions and there is not much to give or to be had." His curious nature waits for the answer to an intriguing thought.

Aleena giggles, just a bit.

"It is my calling to walk where I do, and no place is foreign to me. The desert can be tragic, but the isolated flowers found there are, when they bloom, the most beautiful of all. Perhaps it is that I am to teach you how to heal your aura, to break away from the past, as there is a chance for redemption every day. I fear not the darkness, for my light shineth from within."

It was a response worthy of her status within the Order, and she clearly seemed convinced that she could handle herself, come what may. Though healing was her speciality, as it is for all members of the Order, it would seem that she knew perhaps a bit more of auramancy than that alone.

James Mushman is a 5'5", 120-something-pound 23-year-old black guy with big black bihawks sticking out on top of his head. He wanders, searching for a nice teacher in one of the mystical arts, preferably auramancy or maybe pyromancy, so that he might have learned something useful in life, though he thinks blowing fire at people would just be plain fun, too. He does not nor has ever belonged to a specific order, and longs to apply some sense of DEFINITION to his life. What's the point of existence if it's spent simply continuing itself? One should try to make something of themselves.
He hails from a long line of simple haggis marketers, hence the name Mushman.

...Wishing he hadn't entered the dessert in the first freaking place, James crawled on, burning the skin of his limbs. He'd heard of civilizations of people within this hellish place, and imagined learning much from their harsher climate, and obvious creativity required for survival out here. In hindsight, he could admit how stupid he was trying to walk the vast distance by himself, and really wished he had brought more water with him. As long as he had his map of the skies, and the stars to guide him, he wouldn't be lost, but you know what? He was beginning to think he'd never reach the closest known oasis anyway.

He could track the shadows of vultures circling over him.
