"No...." Fenrir said as he tossed his sword into the air and clapped his hands together; "No you're not."

In an instant the air around Shane thickened into a dense mist so thick that even his empowered eyes were useless within it's depths(As far as Fenrir knows), a mist he would recognize as the same once used by Nahkaro and the one Fenrir had somehow been taught by the strange swordsman during their final battle.

Fenrir's proficiency with the mist had increased greatly these past nine months, and his abilities within it had flourished to a degree that almost rivalled Nahkaro's....Almost.

Fenrir killed his magical output and crept into the mist on silent feet, making himself almost entirely impossible to detect as he made his way towards Shane in a non-direct manner so his friend could not guess his path.

He himself was entirely blind just like Shane, but unlike Shane he had trained himself to sense electrical signals through his feet. A metal rod was inserted into the heel of each boot and made physical contact with his own heel, which made for uncomfortable foot-wear certainly but it meant he didn't need to touch the ground with his hand as he used to, and it also meant he was constantly sensing electrical energies. With his own sensory abilities combined with the null-field of the mist Fenrir could make himself a ghost on the battlefield, one that could dish out defeat as he saw fit to a totally un-knowing enemy.

Still quite a distance from his friend Fenrir tossed his full sized sword towards Shane's left shin in a manner that would pierce the side of his leg and pin the boy to the floor if he did not move...

Shane smiled. The mist technique. He already knew what to do for that. However as he opened his eyes he suddenly realised, and with comforting confidence, that he could see right through the mist. Shane beamed widely. He had not known this was a feature of the Occulis Genkai but he supposed it made sense. They were the ultimate eyes after all.

Shane tapped the butt of his spear on the ground and a jet of steam burst forth wear Fen was about to run into. Jumping over to the side he done it again constantly moving and constantly hindering Fen. He was purposefully trying to frustrate the boy as he moved in spirals around him getting a little bit closer but always staying out of reach.

Fenrir screamed as the first jet of steam hit him in the face, swirling to the right he tried to move passed it but was hit by the second stream. Just as the third jet rose towards his face he vanished instantly, reappearing once again above his marked throwing knife, his hands clapped together.

His mist began dispersing instantly. He didn't know how but somehow Shane could sense him inside it, maybe it was those eyes of his, and having it activated just made things a little trickier than they had to be.

Before Shane could create another jet of steam Fenrir reached into his pouch and pulled out a dozen shurikens and tossed them in a wide arc throughout the area, instantly teleporting to one of them in order to dodge any attack Shane could throw.

12 shuriken and one throwing knife were now dispersed around the area, and Fenrir was rapidly teleporting from one to the next so fast Shane would barely be able to register his location before he moved to the next one, with every teleportation Fenrir threw two knives from his pouch; one straight towards Shane, and another in a random direction thus giving himself another focal point to teleport to.

In the span of a handful of seconds Shane had went from being on the offensive, to having a dozen throwing knives flying towards him as he friend continued his relentless hit-and-run technique...

It had been worth it to one up his supposed great technique. Even if he hadn't achieved much he'd learned quite a bit. Fen's next attempt was to throw shuriken and throwing knives at him. Shane dodged them easily his eyes saw every throw in slow motion and he could work out theier full trajectory before they were very far in the air.

Rock exploded out in front of him creating a circular hole before him. Shane stepped forward just as a geyser of water shot up propelling him into the air. The water misted as it reached it's apex and turned into a small cloud. By leaning too and fro he could actually control the cloud and fly. Being that he was no longer on the ground any more the shuriken in the ground were super not effective.

Shane leant backward flying over the pool before dispelling the cloud completely and falling into te water...

Fenrir came to a sudden stop, appearing with a grin above a throwing knife that landed at the edge of the pool of water. He held two throwing knives in his right hand, holding them up at chest level he gave Shane a nod, and then tossed both of them towards Shane.

Fenrir vanished, reappearing at a throwing knife ten feet backwards with his sword in hand.

Fenrir had officially established about fifty separate locations to jump to with his technique, he had a good safety net for sure. His defence was set for now.

Now he had to focus on offense; making a claw with his left hand he began gathering an electrical charge at the joint where his shoulder met his arm, when he was prepared he would run the charge down his arm and through his hand.

If Shane launched an attack of any kind Fenrir would bounce between three different throwing knives in order to avoid it, continuing as best as he could to charge whilst he done so...

Shane looked up at Fenrir with a serene smile. Looking him directly in the eyes as he faded out of existence. The daggers passed him and he reformed his eyes placed exactly as to stare deeply into Fens.

***

The world fell away to be replaced only with a sort of grey shapeless background. Fen stood on some sort of solid undefinable surface. It was only Fen as afar as he could see. What had happened? Where was he?

You killed me... Fen heard a whisper. The voice was familiar yet it sounded so weak. The cycle of hatred rages on and on and yet you killed me...

Then there was another voice I never thought he could do it. came the voice of his father. Auron was always my favourite son. He added casually.

Destined to fail. I shouldn't have even wasted my time. Faolin agreed dismissively even sounding disgusted to have even known him.

I always knew it would be his magic. He has no discipline. I'm surprised he can even read. Lao pitched in his lot with the dissenters.

Well I'm not protecting that weakling any more. I think I'll protect that other brother... Ryuk added in.

Oh Auron! He's an excellent lover. Yumi agreed in Without him I fear I'd never be satisfied. His brother just doesn't measure up on the battlefield or even in the bedroom if you know what I mean...

Give up... You'll never defeat me. The cycle of hatred is a cosmic force. It is nature and you are nothing... Finally Auron's voice commanded upon him snake-like and full of guile. Just give up, you are too weak, too merciful...

***

Fen was caught in the trap of the Occulis Genkai. Using bits from his memories and bits he already knew he had pieced together this horro for Shane to live through again and again. The whole thing would cycle repeating on and on until his mind broke or his body broke.

Shane had risen out of the water now Fen's eyes tracking his locked as they now were. It was already his point. At this moment in time Shane already could have killed Fen in so many different ways.

*If there was one person in the room who would recognize a horrible mental attack when he saw it, it was Tourivil. And he knew that it would be bad for certain relationships if Shane broke Fenrir's mind. Thus, he acted.

He snapped his fingers, which turned into a colossal boom which reverberated throughout the cavern. *

Enough, Shane. *He stated in a firm voice. * Let him go.

"No..." Fenrir said as the voices of those dear to him began to tear into him.

You killed me...the cycle of hatred rages on and on and yet you killed me...

"Nahkaro...I didn't have a choice, you know that!" Fenrir shouted out to the phantom voice on the wind, in the vain hopes that it would vanquish the demon.

I never thought he could do it....Auron was always my favourite son....

Dad...D..N-...

No.

Fenrir closed his eyes and brought his hands together, interlocking his fingers, as he roared in defiance; "NO!

This was all a lie, Nahkaro was dead and his father would never say that...Nahkaro was dead and his father would never say that, never!

Fenrir's body tensed as electricity began noticeably coursing over his skin, his every hair standing up on edge. Clearly he was fighting against the foreign control over his body, clearly he was trying his best to escape Shanes cruel mental dominance.

Destined to fail. I shouldn't have even wasted my time.

This was a trick, this was an illusion just like the boss had used, that was the only thing that made sense. Auron himself had said that their father always favoured Fenrir, there was no way this was anything but an illusion, and if that were the case then all Fenrir had to do was break it...But how?

I always knew it would be his magic. He has no discipline. I'm surprised he can even read.

Auron had broken Hass'rass's illusion by severing all of their senses, but Fenrir couldn't do that nor could he even sever one of them. He was useless, he was stuck in this hellish illusion!

Well I'm not protecting that weakling any more. I think I'll protect that other brother...

Every muscle on Fenrirs body bulged, the sparks of lightning were beginning to arc off of his body wildly. The build-up had taken less than a handful of seconds, and already Fenrir had became the centre of a rather large electrical storm.

The moment Yumis voice entered his head Fenrir snapped completely.

NO!!!

His eyes burst open, his body relaxed and the lightning ceased licking his body all in an instant. His eyes were clear, calm, and undeniably full of un-paralleled anger. Fenrir stared at Shane as if the boy had just tried to undermine his very reason for living, which he sort of had

-

Unknowingly Fenrir had just performed a magical flush of his systems, which had broken Shanes hold over him.

In simple terms when Shanes eyes took control of Fenrirs mind they had forced it to do its bidding, taking control entirely of its mental and spiritual flow and making it Shanes own. Fenrirs lightning had shut his system off for a split-second and then burst through Shanes control and reverted control back to Fenrir, sort of like turning a computer off and then back on.

It was something Fenrir, nor anyone else, would probably never be able to do on demand, or out of instinct ever again. Frankly it was a lucky miracle it had even happened this time.

-

We finish this now. Fenrir said in an utterly serious tone. His body tingled trying to contain all of the lightning he had just built up but he did not show it at all.

Fenrir hadnt thought he would need to use this technique, ever, Shane was stronger than he looked and that was saying something. He had so rarely used this technique in the past that the Elves hadnt even began to identify him with it yet, but they soon would he knew.

Shane had gone a step too far, and Fenrir would use everything in his power to show his friend that Fenrir was not a push over. This match was his, Shane just didnt know it yet.

Reaching into his pouch Fenrir pulled out a small scroll that was just over six inches long, un-clipping the clasp that sealed the scroll Fenrir tossed it into the air in a manner that caused it to unravel as it flew upwards.

When the scroll had unravelled about half a foot worth of length, revealing a strange glyph to be painted on the side nearest Fenrir and thus unseeable to Shane but seeable to the onlookers, Fenrir slammed his flat palm into the paper which resulted in two things, a resounding boom and a large puff of smoke exploding out of the paper and consuming Fenrir entirely

There was a great caw and then the smoke suddenly dissipated as a huge eagle flew from the smoke into the air, kneeling on its back was Fenrir whom held a lightning-clad spear in his hand.

-

It had been about a month after he first acquired Strongwing when Fenrir questioned Faolin as to how his brother had summoned the two giant snakes during the battle.

Faolin had smiled and told Fenrir about the art of magical summoning, as well as the commonly over-looked process of bonding with a particular breed of animals so that they would serve you loyally when summoned.

Auron had obviously bonded with snakes somehow and had managed to incorporate them into his attacks as well as develop a number of summonings to help him during battle.

Fenrir could sympathize with his brothers desire for allies during a fight, and if his brother would be the snake that slithered along the ground then Fenrir would be Eagle that hunted the snake from the sky.

-

Lifting his spear up and taking aim Fenrir poured as much lightning into it as he could, which happened to be a hell of a lot considering he had about three lightning bolts stored up in his body for instant use at the moment, and then tossed it down towards Shane with the speed and power of an actual bolt of lightning.

A moment later he leaped off of his Eagle himself and sped towards Shane, a huge storm of electricity in his right hand as he fell towards his friend. Half of his body was concealed by the huge sparks that were flying off of his hand, it was about two and a half bolts of lightning he held in his hand after all.

If Shane blocked the first attack then Fenrir would follow up personally, and this would be the attack that decided the match, one way or another.

Master, I can- Shane had been but halfway through trying to convince his Master it was necessary when the boy broke out of it himself. Impossible, nobody can break from my Occulis Genkai! Shane cried surprise clearly etched all over his face.

Shane watched preparing the only attack left in his arsenal that he believed could work now. Even as Fen worked about summoning an eagle and preparing his spear Shane was still hard at work concentrating. A silver dagger had appeared in his right hand. Even as Fen threw the spear he waited. He waited anticipating what he knew would come. A personal attack. Fen did as Shane had guessed and leapt from his eagle.

Just then using a slight variation of the instep dash Fen had used earlier he propelled himself out of immensely spry water. He moved almost as quick as Fen stopping in momentum only as he neared the far wall away from even his weapons. Very quickly he swiped the dagger across his left wrist opening up the major artery there. He thrust his palm out the blood that should be spraying over him collecting in his palm in a sphere before suddenly shooting out in a long thin lazer beam which Shane brought across the way attempting to cut his friend in half as he fell through the air...

Fenrir disappeared in a flash of light, not actually a trademark teleportation flash but rather simply his huge ball of lightning vanishing from the air, and re-appeared at the throwing-knife nearest Shane, already flying over the ground towards his friend with the ball still in his hand.

Before Shane could move to counter or launch another attack Faolin suddenly appeared in the exact centre of the two boys, a hand raised towards both of them; "STOP!"

Faolin exerted his will over both boys, creating a magical bubble around both of them that would bind their movements as begin cancelling any magical spells they were working. It wouldn't be too hard to break if they wanted to, especially Shane who's wound would need quick looking at once this was over.

Fenrir's lightning began fizzling out as he came to a skidding stop, his hand trembling not from trying to contain the attack any longer but from his overwhelming anger; "Faolin, what the hell are you doing!?"

"This fight is over, you've both proven yourselves as much as need be." Faolin said, shooting his apprentice a look of 'don't f**k with me' intent.

Fenrir shook his hand, his wrist loose, as his lightning stopped entirely and Faolin's bubble vanished from around him. He scowled, then after a moment he sighed....And then he smiled, shaking his head; "Well, that got serious pretty fast eh Shane?"

He couldn't stay mad at Shane, the boy couldn't have meant to do him serious harm with the mental attack. They were pushing each other to the very limit, to hold back such an attack would have been an insult to Fenrir, and although both of them were far from dropping from exhaustion they had both displayed quite a bit of their abilities today. Shane really had grown powerful, maybe even stronger than Fenrir himself...

Shane was readying another bloody beam when he was very suddenly interrupted by Faolin. The sphere in his hand liquefied into blood and splashed upon the ground. He was surrounded in a nullifying bubble. He considered fighting it for a moment before see Fenrir in one too. That was when he actually heard what Faolin had shouted.

With a deep breath the rage and determination that hazed his mind dropped and, in a blink, his Occulis Genkai had disappeared. It felt almost natural to turn it off and felt assured he could turn it on when it was needed again. He suddenly realised what he had done to Fen and his cheeks burnt with crimson shame.

When Fenrir joked with him about it getting out of hand he realised the boy had taken no offence from it. Thank the Three. He would certainly have taken offence to such an offensive action. He had really lost it there. Yeah, he agreed sheepishly really out of control...

***

There was a great and mighty applause. Well it was only Barney but his meaty palms were enough for a crowd. His boy had really grown strong. The water techniques, the blood magic, the Occulis Genkai; they really added up.

The other boy was powerful too he really played up to that Lightning affinity of his. They hadn't even gotten to see much of the mist, literally as no-one else could see through the mist that the boy had dispelled all too soon for some unknown reason.

What a show! What a show! Barney declared loudly. Though it's a shame you had to tear up the joint. He said directing their attention to the mass of holes on the ground, puddles of water, embedded shuriken, mass of sand and splashes of blood.

Faolin half smirked-half scowled at Barney; "Yes, it was quite a show."

Fenrir looked around, examining the wake of their battle. His smile grew larger and larger as he saw the scene of chaos they had created. When he noticed his mask and his sword he summoned both to his hands, sheathing his weapon in stiletto through his belt whilst keeping hold of his mask; "Well, thankfully my pouch won't be running out of tools any time soon...."

Fenrir clenched his fist and the giant eagle that circled the top of the cavern disappeared in a puff of white smoke. It had been a useful way to get up high, but it had been far more useful in the past and would hopefully prove more useful in the future.

"So, what do you think about the boys then Tourivil?" Faolin asked in a half-whisper as he approached the blood-mage...

To eager. To little control. *Tourivil responded in a whisper. Then he spoke up. *

A good show, boys. A good show. But, perhaps just a show. You both need more training. But, I am proud of you both still. *Tourivil's face was completely impassive, and then cracked into a small smile. *

Shane clapped and his Trident went poof from wherever it was. His wrist was starting to knit itself together closing the wound. He had expressed an awful lot of blood though and was starting to look a bit pale. It was okay though. He was a blood mage and the secrets of his art allowed him to expand the regeneration of blood cells.

Shane smiled as he heard the words of approval from his Master. He had been starting to wonder. He hadn't stopped the attack when he had asked and if Fen hadn't broke out of it he wouldn't have broken it unless acted on by someone else. He can't believe he did that to Fen. That would have completely destroyed the mind of a weaker foe. Shane still couldn't figure out how he'd done it.

He needed to revisit his mental conditioning training. He thought his mind was disciplined. He thought that was it. He simply had control over his mind but it seemed with Fen his baser instinct to win was drawn out beyond control.

Faolin half nodded, half shrugged, as he spun around to face the duo; "More training can never go amiss in my books."

He looked Shane up and down again, still struggling to believe that he was the same boy from nine months ago, Tourivil's training must have been even more grueling than he had imagined it would be to have caused such a drastic change.

Those eyes of his were a wonder as well, a dangerous and cursed wonder. He had, whether intentionally or not Faolin could not yet tell, been seconds from incinerating his own friend with a fire that Faolin knows but one way to extinguish. He would need to ask Shane about those eyes soon, he needed to know just how well he could control them. They could either be a great asset in the coming war, or a considerable worry depending on the boy's answer.

"Well, I have seen all I need to see I think. Tourivil, if I may ask for a private audience there is something I must discuss with you..." Faolin began walking away from the rest of the group, hoping that Tourivil would agree and follow so that he may share his plans with the mage.

Part of him couldn't believe it was finally time, after months and months of preparations he was finally nearing an ambition he and Erda had harbored since even before the ascension....

Brunnex leapt to his feet. No way was that giant having private talks with Tourival. Anything he said to Tourival could be said to him as well. Brunnex bounded over to them somewhat aggressively.

I can take you up if you want greater privacy. He offered deciding to disguise his intent at the last moment.

Of course. Barney, if you could take the boys back to the conference room, and see that the priests bring them some food and take a look at any wounds. *He then gave barney a little wink, and spoke into his mind. * "Do that crappy little chore and I'll see you get a tub of wine. Maybe we'll go find your mask too."

*He then followed Faolin, and waited for him to bring up whatever he wanted to discuss. One silver eye had rolled back in his head, and seemed to be watching the apprentices and Barney. *

Fenrir was a little miffed as to what Faolin wanted to talk to Tourivil about so suddenly, maybe his and Shane's fight had worried him or something. Or perhaps Shane's, or his own, conduct during the match had been a little out of hand.

Feeling a little dejected Fenrir put on a grin and approached the elevator, Ryuk his silent shadow as ever whilst Gert bounced after him; "Up we go! This Elevator is a work of art, I suppose magic has it's use over simple craft on occasion."

-

Faolin smiled in thanks as he turned to face Tourivil; "Ah, good. I don't mind overly much about your companion joining us, he'll find out my purpose soon enough anyway, but I'd rather this stayed between us for the moment so I thank you for that."

Looking over to make sure Fenrir and Shane were definitely out of earshot Faolin nodded as he refocused on Tourivil; "The boys are quite impressive, I commend your skills as a mentor to have brought Shane so far.

In truth I had wondered if he would be able to keep up with Fenrir, the boy's advancement astounded even me these past months, but he done so with ease, no doubt thanks to whatever training methods you had him endure."

Suddenly growing more serious Faolin continued after a brief pause; "If we enter the war as it stands, with the boys at their current power and myself and you as their respective handlers, then I'm afraid defeat is certain."

"I have seen the strength of the Inarus up close and personal several times these past few months, they give me enough trouble never mind a common foot soldier, and I have heard tales of their might from my mother Leagona that speak of warriors far stronger than those I have fought thus far. What I have faced can only be referred to as the dregs of their army, the true elite may push me to a point where holding back at all is no longer possible if I wish to survive.

In the past we have always managed to defeat our foes through sheer force, together we Sardonians are a group to be reckoned with for sure, but these Elves...They're entirely different, they're a force that have fought countless wars together and every member of the army is a Sardonian regiment in himself. We need more than what we currently have to defeat them, we need something the world has not played host to fully in too long, we need the Riders..."

Faolin let that sit for a moment, regarding Tourivil with a keen eye as he looked for any tiny reaction in the man's face, then he continued; "I alone am the last vanguard of my order, as I have been since the passing of Tao and the ascension of Brun, and as I was before both of them acquired their Dragons, this can no longer be the case if we plan to win this war. Sardo, nay, the world, needs the Riders back.

The Inarus fought the Riders in ages past and they alone were the only warriors with the strength to match the Elves. Rider and Dragon together are an unstoppable combination in any battle, even the Elves could not match an entire army of my kind.

It may be a great deal of time before the order is what it once was but I have made preparations to begin its' rebirth....It all begins by seeing if Shane and Fenrir bond with either of the eggs in my possession, something I believe both of them shall do.

Of course, I ask your permission first. Shane is your student more than he is mine now, if you do not wish it I will not allow him the chance to bond with an egg, he may remain a blood-mage and your student and Fenrir alone can begin the new order, I will take no offence if this is your wish."

Faolin had indeed been making preparations for this for years, most of them alone though he had had help from several people in the past whom had agreed to keep his secret. Toun had been chief amongst these people, going as far to trust Faolin with his most important of charges before his death. Jet, Sir Tillion, Tao and even the King himself had all also had a hand in making the preparations for the new Orders arrival, and with any luck all of their hard work, and Faolins, would soon pay off

*Tourivil pondered for a moment, tapping his chin with his finger. *

Shane's training is barely begun. There is so much more that he must learn before he can truly call himself a bloodmage. You saw him out there, only when pressed did he use any blood magic. I have been teaching him discipline and control for his mind and body, along with a few basics. He will need to study with all of his might for at least several years before I call him a bloodmage. But, these are dark times indeed. You may ask shane what he wishes to do. But know this, the mark of Strange will always be on him, it is in his heart now. He has taken readily to my master's philosophy, he will never be a knight in shining armor, the notion will be nothing short of offensive to him.

So, I suppose I am promising you nothing in that regard. I can say that when you call to fight the elves, I will answer with the might of the bloodbeasts and the forest. I will give the elves enemies they have only seen in nightmares.

"I can ask nothing more, I thank you Tourivil." Faolin said bow a slight bow, he grinned as he rose; "But, you have made a fair point today, too often do you play host to I when I never do to you.

There is something I believe you will be pleased to see."

Faolin gestured with his hand to Tourivil's right.

A shimmering gateway suddenly popped into existence, making a strange 'shliinking' noise as it expanded to roughly six feet by three feet, by no means a comfortable fit for Faolin.

"Luckily the barrier will block this from the Elves' sight, otherwise I might not have been able to show you this." Faolin said with a grin as he stepped towards the portal.

Coming up a few steps short he turned and stepped to the side; "After you, I assure you good Prophet this will be worth the discomfort of transit..."

I had the majority of my face burnt off by molten silver, while simultaneously watching one of my oldest comrades die. I do not think you have an discomforts that will trouble me. *Tourivil remarked casually. He then stepped through the portal without any hesitation. *

Faolin chuckled as Tourivil stepped through the portal "Well, discomfort might be out of the question but mayhaps Ill at least get some surprise.

He followed Tourivil through the portal, it closed with a zipping noise the instant he was through.

-

The world Tourivil had stepped into was a scholars wettest of wet dreams.

Skyscrapers, nay, heaven-breakers, rose blindly high into the sky in columns so long the human eye could not see the end, Tourivil had stepped into the centre of a junction of 8 separate corridors made of these monolithic structures. It was most likely a daunting realization when Tourivil saw with his own silver eyes that these dark-green stone structures were in fact tightly packed bookcases filled to the brim with ledgers, tomes, scrolls and all other imaginable records of knowledge.

The bookcases had rows stacked upon rows, each being half a foot tall which meant the several hundred foot tall bookcases must have held a seriously immense amount of books. Their covers were not uniform in the slightest; some were thick and leather bound, others were thin paper-backs, others were so frail looking it was a travesty they had been stored so tightly whilst others took up foot upon foot of a single row in their bookcase. It was quite clear to one such as Tourivil that these tomes held all manner of knowledge, and it would take a hundred life times to even crack the beginnings of this place.

Faolin clapped his hand on Tourivils shoulder with a big grin; This is your first time here Im guessingWelcome to the esteemed Threllosion Library.

I assume that we are not supposed to be here, Faolin? *Tourivil remarked. * I have traveled the world, and been in grand libraries of ancient knowledge. I have seen tomes of forbidden magic worshiped on bloodstained alters by the undead guardians of long dead high necromancers.

This is far superior to any that I have seen. I thank you for this Faolin, may I live long enough to make use of it.

I'm pretty sure our presence here isn't that much of a bother... Faolin said casually as he began walking down one of the aisles; In fact, I'm positive; I'm technically the sole proprietor of this place now that Toun has passed.

Toun was one of the few people aware of my plans to revive my order, he thought it such a good idea that he not only gave me access to this place but planted the very same seal he had in his own head within mine meaning that I am bound to the library and as such so long as I live it does as well.

The Riders always had the most vast collection of knowledge in the known-world, and when the order starts up once more I plan to make it as it once was.

Turning on heel and coming to a stop a few feet down one of the aisles Faolin gave Tourivil a big smile; Of course, I plan to share most of this place with the university of mages when it is constructed. Magic must be studied fully, nothing should be 'taboo' otherwise it simply attracts the dark-minded and the foolish.

I am unsure what steps the King took to secure the planning stages of the university before he died but I plan to continue his work, it's level of importance is almost as great as that of my own order in my opinion.

As such I need to ensure the survival of this place, this most hallowed of record-houses. If I die in the coming months then it is lost forever, I cannot let such a thing be risked.

I see one option before me; Tourivil, you are amongst the most stalwart and trust-worthy men I have ever crossed in my lifetime, would you share this burden with me and guard this place with your mind and body until such a time as it is safe to set it free into the world?

Toun had taught Faolin the spell that created the mental link with the library so that, in the event of Toun's death, Faolin would be able to do just this and name more protectors of the library. Faolin was unsure how Toun would react to his plan to make the great majority of the library open to the public, but the Threllos had kept their mystical secrets for too long now. Soon magic would be a universal art, there would be no knowledge for the 'upper-class' alone, no vista unreachable simply because you lack the right connections.

Only through equalization of magic can it be regulated in any manner at all, or so Faolin had always thought....

I am only so because my master demands it. *Tourivil said, his head bowed ever so slightly. *

My greed for access to this knowledge alone demands that I accept your offer. The promise that one day it will be shared amongst all, and that perhaps the dream of a house of magical learning is only the icing on the cake. I gladly accept.

Come on then, kiddies. Barney said ushering the kids over to the elevator while simultaneously giving Faolin the eye. See you in a bit then. He bid his adieu to Faolin and Tourivil before moving to the elevator. He was there first, then it was Fenrir and his buddies. Last to arrive was a somewhat brooding Shane.

Brunnex repeated the activation procedures and they flew up to the top area. Once there Brunnex leant against the crystal with a sigh. You kids are good but frankly I don't see the big fuss. In my day people were born as powerful as you two. If you want some free advice that I'm giving anyway here it is. You, He said pointing to Fenrir Stop being so trusting. One of these days someone is going to stab you in the back and trust me, I know how that feels. And you, he pointed to Gert Who even are you? You're doomed. A race without mages was a stupid idea to begin with. And you, he pointed to Ryuk What is your deal guarding someone a hundred times more powerful than you? And you, He said finally pointing to Shane Lay this one, he motioned at Fenrir Off. You did good out there no matter what the Rider or that one may say about taking things too far. You were willing to win and that is survival at it's greatest. Cut him off before you learn his weaknesses. And me, He points to himself I'm just perfect.

Having successfully insulted everyone Barney fell silent and gazed wondrously at the ceiling ignoring any replies he may get...

Fenrir's smile dropped ever so slightly when Brunnex pointed out his 'fault' of being too trusting. Trusting people wasn't a problem, if this...Thing, whatever it was, thought that it was then Fenrir felt only pity for the lonely existence it must lead.

My trust in others is my greatest strength, not a weakness. Fenrir replied with faint snort of his nose. This thing had quite the nerve to so openly comment on other people, Fenrir had rarely met anyone so blunt in his time.

When Brunnex commented on Gert the Dwarf reddened slightly and then bellowed a great laugh which seemed to release any anger he had managed to build up in roughly a second; Well, I guess Dwarves have a disadvantage in that regard but at least my kind are lookers. No offence my friend but even for a Non-Dwarf you remind me of the underside of granite.

Ryuk only glared when Brunnex made a comment towards him, Fenrir doubted that Ryuk gave two-hoots what the stranger thought about his position as his guardian. The Ferrock really didn't care for anybody's opinion but his own, not even Fenrir's mattered to him really and he had sworn the most sacred vow imaginable to the boy.

It was only when Brunnex commented on Shane that Fenrir actually lost his composure a little, advancing towards the much larger thing he scowled; Shane would never try to get rid of me, we have something that you've clearly never had in your sad, isolated, lifetime; we have a bond! Auron may be my brother by blood, but Shane is the brother I choose by my own rights, and he's stronger than you'll ever be so don't you dare call him weak!
--

Thank you Tourivil, you really can't imagine the weight of this burden when it is on my shoulders alone. Faolin said as he began moving back towards Tourivil; The process comes with some level of pain, but it would be an insult if I asked you to prepare yourself for it. I seriously doubt you'll even blink at it...

Faolin came to a dead stop a foot in front of Tourivil; If you're prepared then turn around, the seal is placed physically on the back of your skull and bound magically into your very essence. A simpler seal could do the same job, but this way there is no way to dislodge our bond with the library and it also joins our life force with the library's.

*Tourivil gave a small smile, and turned around. He thought about stealing his nerves, he could more or less turn off pain if he wanted to and had a moment to think about it, but after awhile that just seemed cowardly. There was an odd sense of gratification in pain. *

Faolin nodded and closed his eyes as be reached into his mind and began pulling out the sealing formula placed there by Toun, at the same time he clasped his hands together, bending the pinky and forefinger whilst keeping the middle, thumb and index finger straight.

The air in front of Faolin, and thus between the two men, began shimmering as if it had suddenly became intensely hot and were the sight of heat-waves though this was not the case. Rather the air was shimmering because Faolin was summoning the formula from his mind into that space, and the process was not easy for either Faolin or the physical space itself to handle.

The silence and the shimmering continued for several minutes until the disturbance in the air suddenly flared up and the sealing formula appeared with strange reverse-vacuum noise that would have pierced Tourivil's ear quite painfully.

The sealing formula sat delicately upon Tourivil's clothing and skin without making its' presence known at all to the blood-mage. It was black in colour and comprised of spider-web thin lines of interweaving criss-crossing design that looked a little bit like a very complicated maze sprawling all across the back of Tourivil's back. At the centre of the 'maze' was a circular shape formed out of thicker lines than the rest of the pattern, it was roughly the shape of a dinner plate and was located in between Tourivil's shoulder blades. Inside this circle was a square slightly off set square, its' bottom corner was pointing towards Tourivil's tailbone whilst its' top was almost touching the base of his neck. Inside the square was what could only be described as a hurried squiggle resembling an upside down question mark scored out with a lightning bolt, the squiggle pulsed grey-white slightly every half second and was the only part of the symbol that moved or changed at all.

I'm about to place the formula in your head, this is the painful part but once it's done you'll be able to access both the formula and the library on demand. Here we go. Faolin spoke in a strained tone, and probably shouldn't have done so at all since any slip-up at this stage could send the entire process horribly awry. He just felt Tourivil should understand at least some of what was happening.

Pushing his hands together even tighter than they already were Faolin sent a large pulse of his own magic into the seal, which instantly turned the entire thing bleach-white, and searingly hot; if Tourivil's skin was anything like a normal humans' then it would have been burned off almost instantaneously and now it would be the raw flesh that would be in contact with the seal.

At the same time as its' base-aesthetic change the lines of the formula began spiralling inwards into the walls of the square, which was slowly rotating as the lines seemed to push it around like some sort of gear, the pain would be greatest in the centre of the square where the squiggle sat and would be of mind-numbing levels.

The entire design was reduced to the square and the symbol in less than a minute, though it would have felt like a life-time to most people being branded with the formula, and the second the design was just the square and the squiggle it began crawling up Tourivil's back. Most people's backs would be horribly scared, and the movement of the design now would be leaving behind a snail-trail of raw flesh, but nothing that could not be healed by a fairly competent healer. Luckily Faolin had received this at the hands of the greatest healer he had ever heard of, he just hoped Tourivil had someone of fair skill nearby otherwise his body might not be so lucky to escape with only minimal scarring.

The seal stopped moving entirely when it reached the back of Tourivil's skull, there it sat, burning away, for half a minute. With no warning the symbol flashed blinding white, forcing Faolin to look away.

When Faolin looked back the symbol was gone, and the process was done. In the moment of the flash the pain would have simply vanished entirely physically, but Tourivil would have felt an immense mental pressure for a split-second and then that too would have vanished.

Tourivil would know how to open a portal to and from the library now, as well as how to brand the sealing symbol onto others so that they too can do so. The knowledge would suddenly have appeared when the process was complete, and would be at the forefront of his mind for a moment before receding back into a normal piece of information within his head.

Faolin stepped back, lowering his hands, and awaited Tourivil to move. Simply watching Tourivil would reveal nothing about the damage done, a blood mage's physical state and their pain level were linked in a way unlike any other creature Faolin knew of, other than Demons perhaps...

Methinks you hyped the experience a little too much, Faolin. Less painful, more mild itch. *Tourivil remarked wryly. If this was true or simple bragging was anyone's guess. *

Anyways, perhaps we should get back to the boys before they get lost in the city. Unless there was anything else you wished to discuss?

*Across the astral plains, Jan was deep in thought. He stood next to one of the only windows in this particular onyx castle, several miles below him a volcano frothed and bubbled madly. The land scape was strewn, as far as the eye could see, with these castles, and and Jan knew that everyone was filled with Strange. He did not hear the soft tapping of cushioned steel points, and a spider legged strange came up behind him. *

"What troubles you, young Jan? I can sense your displeasure. " *It said with a surprisingly natural voice, as a series of glass lenses with brass frames attached to some complicated clock worked device moved across Strange's eyes. *

" I am worried about Brunnex. I have been watching him through the scrying well. He is filled with anger and disdain for those that surround him. "

*Strange looked at Jan for a moment, and gave a barking laugh. *
"Hate makes the flames burn higher. " *Strange answered. *
