The man, and his Elven partner, stared in awe at Brunnex. He had just man-handled a group of Elves that had already proven themselves strong enough to take down a seriously strong fighter, and for all appearances he hadn't even broken a sweat.

After a moment the man shook himself and looked towards the unconscious John; "We..We should get him back up, right?"

"Uh, well, if it's not too much trouble." Brunnex remarked sarcastically. Brunnex turned "Amateurs..." He said to himself with a disapproving shake of the head.

"How many are stationed here? Bar the ones I just killed?" He asked urgently. He could do with another elf for the journey. Damn those wee bastards were tasty.

The man paused for a moment, confused by why Brunnex, whom was standing right over John, didn't simply use some of his magic to get them off right away. Thinking better to than to question the angel-of-death that had saved his ass not five seconds ago he moved forward, and after some fumbling with his bare hands, cut John's bonds with the Elven sword. He was taken aback by howeasily the sword cut through the solid metal, then remembered that this was one of those damned Elven swords and was probably magically enchanted to hell.

After rising back to his feet the man watched John for a time, and, seeing that he was not waking up, turned once more to Brunnex; Can you get him up, or do we need to wait around for him? Cause I don't think we've got that much time before back-up arrives.

*Tourivil heard the knocking at the door, and closed the grimiore. He knew it was Shane, and he didn't want Shane to end up like Jan had because of the grimiore. *

Enter. *Tourivil said in a dry voice. He had spent most of today pouring over his books and dealing with the city's internal affairs. He had given Shane some difficult task at an ungodly hour in the morning, so that had freed up some of his normal training time. While he could not precisely remember what it was, he knew that it had involved the forest. Such a good place for trials the forest..*

He pushed the door open with his arm shuffling into the room. He was still sore from his day in the forest. Tourival had told him that he needed to collect bark samples, without killing, from thirty of the tree beasts. It went without saying that he was banned from using any magic besides the blood variety. It had been trying to say the least. Of course every scratch he'd taken had just allowed him to fight harder and longer which had definitely helped.

I brought your dinner, Master. Shane says with a pleasant smile. As well as the samples from the still living tree beasts. Shane had a feeling Tourival had no real use for them but he'd brought them anyway.

Brunnex bent down to John his hand pulling back before swinging forward across the man's cheek 'pimp slapping dat hoe' as it were. John, John! He repeated his name again a little louder.

Placing his hand in John's he closed his eyes. There was technically nothing wrong with the man. Mental and perhaps physical fatigue. He send a surge of adrenaline into the man's bloodstream. That ought to do it...

Hmph, more of a ruin than a Fort if you ask me. Erda commented dryly from hundreds of feet above. Fenrir grimaced behind his mask as he mentally agreed with the dragon, he turned to see what his recruits were thinking of their soon-to-be command centre.

From atop his dark-brown courser Fenrir could see the entire column that followed him, a total of forty-seven men, women and children that he had led from Dennisford to here, as well as seven trained soldiers, including Devan, that had been saved from the clutches of the Elves. Their faces filled, surprisingly, with hope when they mounted the crest of the small hill and caught sight of the half-ruined fort in the distance, still some-five miles away at least.

Perhaps, Fenrir reflected, they were weary after the two days of travelling and were just happy that their journey was almost over. Little sleep, hunger and thirst, and the constant threat of Elven discovery had made the travelling harder than it had to be but Fenrir and Faolin could only do so much to help make the journey easier. If they had used too much magic the Elves might have tracked them from the village, so summoning too much food was dangerous. Erda was forced to fly many miles ahead of the column at any point, as well as above cloud-cover when possible, and Faolin was only capable of joining his partner half of the time which meant the Dragon was isolated and a lone-target if he was seen. The reason that Faolin couldnt be with Erda at all times eluded Fenrir, and whenever he asked Faolin the man would simply dodge the question and change the subject to something combat or politics related.

If truth be told the sight of the Fort wasnt a pleasant one for Fenrir, in fact it was a dreadful one. He had hoped, secretly, that the Fort would be huge and filled to the brim with Sardonian soldiers armed to the teeth, with so many mages Fenrir couldnt see the Fort for their residual magic. The real sight was what he expected, but it had crushed his hopes utterly. The Fort probably housed a few hundred soldiers at the most, maybe an extra hundred or so would be spread around the land nearby, and he doubted already that there were many mages in that number. This Fort would not win them the war, it looked like that still remained upon Fenrirs shoulders, or so he had felt for the past few days as more and more of the villagers came upon him as they would a figure of myth.

Turning back to face the road ahead Fenrir sighed, that Fort truly signified the end of his training Faolin had said. From the moment he stepped through those doors he was no longer just a trainee, he was a commander of men and a winner of battles, a soldier.

A sword-arm, nothing more
-
Faolin was glad that he was able to spend a few hours with Erda today, it comforted him that he was near his partner and thus able to ensure his safety. Over the past several days the time they spent together had been limited, he had been safe alongside Fenrir whilst Erda had been alone many miles away and thus an easier target if their envoy was discovered. The thought that he was making his partner potential bait sickened Faolin slightly, but it had to be done.

This was dangerous yes, but Faolin felt that if he left Fenrir alone in charge of the refugees for too long he might falter and he couldnt risk the refugees seeing their saviour in a weakened mental state, if even for an instant. If all was going to go as best as possible the people of Sardo had to see Fenrir in only the best of lights.

He was placing a great burden on Fenrir already, and it would only grow larger, but the boy would have to learn to deal with it Sardo had any hopes of surviving this war. Fenrir had proven over the past several months that he was capable of amazing feats, his biggest problem was that he doubted himself to a critical extent, and that lessened his effectiveness in certain situations. By putting so much pressure upon him Faolin was hoping to squeeze that self-doubt out of him quickly, before it became a serious threat to his safety.

Fort Surthgard wasnt much to look at, Faolin knew, but it was a large enough Fort when it came down to it and its surroundings offered it good access to this region. If Faolin had to estimate how many men were stationed there he would say at least four hundred and at most eight hundred, any more and the Resistance would be placing too much of their resources into one position and potentially damning themselves if the Elves discovered, and attacked, the Fort.

Faolin couldnt sense a single person within the Fort, which he was thankful for. If he had sensed even a handful of people then that would have meant they didnt have enough mages to hide themselves properly, but it seems they have sufficient mages for the job which was good. The Dwarves would greatly bolster their numbers, but they would add no mages so it was essential the Resistance already had enough mages to make a difference in the war.

The Dwarves would provide a good backbone for the army, alongside the men already allied with the Resistance, but if they hoped to stand a chance in this war the Resistance would have to get the full cooperation of the Threllos, the mountain-Dwarves and as many of the scattered warlords that had sprouted up recently as possible. Faolin wasnt looking forward to the task, if truth be told

John did not wake up because he is shit, perhaps he was too far gone to be awoken by such simple means.

At any rate Brunnex had no time to try a second method, for the a group of Elves teleported into the clearing, led by the Elf Ju're whom had spoken to John.

Looking around at the carnage Ju're wasted no time at all in spotting Brunnex, and after sending two stray sparks of magic towards the Man and other nearby survivors, he mentally ordered his men to focus solely on taking out Brunnex.

There were four Elves in total now, and two of them joined their minds and threw them at Brunnex's in the hopes to lock him into a mental battle. If he didn't attempt to block the mental attack then they would render him unconscious, just as John had been, and if he did try to defend against it he would quickly realize two Elves were no easy match when fighting alone.

The other Elf summoned a sword and shield and moved to close the distance between him and Brunnex, he would take charge of dealing with Brunnex on a physical level.

The idea was that by attacking both his physical body and his mind at the same time the Elves had effectively ensured their victory as there was no way Brunnex would be able to repel the mental attack in time to block a crippling physical attack. That was the idea anyway.

The sparks of magic that Ju're fired hit the man in the shoulder, causing him to drop to the floor, and had a similar affect on his remaining comrades.

Ju're, remaining behind his three comrades, kept his arms by his sides and clenched his fists as he began releasing magic at an increased rate. Over the course of a few seconds his magical output sky rocketed, and it was only growing larger...

Yes, Master. Shane said grateful for the praise. Shane put the tray down where gestured and took up a seat opposite his Master ready to hear what the Master had to say. Shane made sure to put on his most serious demeanour. Tourival very rarely exaggerated so when he said something was very important it most likely was.

Brunnex sighed as the men behind him fell. Weak bastards...

Brunnex had developed a new technique while training in Strange's ethereal fortress. By sending etheral tendrils of the demons soul outwith himself he could move and manipulate his own flesh even if it were not attached to his body.

Before he could do such a thing however he felt a sudden pressure on his mind. Mental attacks; a long-lost art. He'd underestimated these chaps but, of course, they'd underestimated him too. Something he feared they would never do again. Now this Brunnex (the original and best) was linked to every other Brunnex out there by a mental connection allowing Brunnex to converse and even switch different Brunnex' minds around. He could also take any mental attack being used on him and send it all the way off to another Brunnex to deal with. Which he did now.

Brunnex clapped his hands together and ducked down under the elf as he was about to swing his sword bringing his hands down on the earth. Said hands disappeared, new hands instantly regrowing. Suddenly two hands burst out of the ground at the other two elves feet wrapping around them and sending bone shards into them as he had done before. He would then consume said charterers. A blue light was beginning to shine through his jacket.

Brunnex launched himself upward bringing a knee upward with enough mass behind it to shatter titanium. Said knee was on collision course with the elves' stomach...

The melee-Elf didn't stand a chance in dodging Brunnex's lightning quick knee as the man had managed to get passed his sheild. The Elf's armour was made of pretty strong stuff, and was magically-layered to hell, but Brunnex's knee was made of stronger stuff thanks to his Elder-spirit upgrades meaning that when the knee impacted the Elven-armour shattered, absorbing some but not enough of the impact to count.

The Elf wheezed a guttural roar as all the air in his body was expelled at once, he dropped his sword and shield at the same time.

Yet, in an amazing feet the Elf managed to turn his misfortune around by grabbing Brunnex's thigh with both hands before he could retract his knee. The Elf super-heated his hands and clenched so tightly that a normal human thigh-bone would have been reduced to dust.

The two Elves that had thrown their minds at Brunnex retracted their minds the second they realized they were locked in a mental struggle with a Brunnex some fifty miles to the west, but by the time their minds returned to their physical bodies the hands had already taken hold of them had pierced them with the bone-spikes. They had enough time to look at each other, before they were both sucked into the hands as Brunnex consumed them.

Ju're's magical output was reaching extraordinary levels, so much so that his physical body was beginning to show signs of stress; he was sweating profusely and vibrating slightly, his skin was turning red from effort and his breathes came once every few seconds and in very raged-gasps. Yet as dangerous as releasing this amount of magic at once clear was the affects were becoming more and more clear, the air around his body was beginning to mist-up and become heavier and heavier with magic.

Ju're was using a technique alien to his own clan, which was why he wasn't as fast at activating it as the members of clan Inuka were, and by doing so he hoped to utterly flatten any chance that this strange mage stood against him...

A razor sharp dragon bone burst out of each side of his thigh burying themselves in either of the elves hands before consuming him whole. His superheated hands would do nothing against dragon bones surely.

The Elf let out a muffled cry as his hands were pierced, still lacking air in his lungs from the last attack. There was nothing he could do in time to stop a follow-up attack from Brunnex, his mind was filled with pain and his eyes were blurred by water.

Ju're released his clenched fists and suddenly the air around him began to thicken considerably, even taking on a light-green hue. It looked as if there were a green fire blazing out of Ju're's every pore, and every instant the flames became more and more intense as his magical output began to cease increasing and become more of a constant level.

*Tourivil hungrily tore a bite from a loaf of bread, and chased it with some wine before he spoke to shane again. *

I must ask you what you want to learn. At this point shane, you have a good enough foundation of the correct thinking, discipline, and skill, that blood magic is a great world you can explore. So, I must ask what you want me to teach you. I can teach you to bring the fight to others in more ways than you can count, I can teach you to defend yourself, to regenerate broken bone and torn flesh, I can help you see the minds of others as open books, and eventually teach you to write in those books, I can teach you to make runes of flesh which will open doors unimaginable, I can teach you all of this and more, and perhaps in time you will be taught all of these things, but the question is what do you want to learn?

Brunnex eyes fluttered a little as he consumed yet another elf. Man those things were tasty. They were just perfect specimens. Had a lot of memories though. He'd set his memory integration to work only as he slept. It made for some funky-ass dreams but at least it didn't flood his mind with their immortal memories.

Brunnex eyes flit to the Super Saiyan elf in front of him. Three consumptions, two hand displacements and several bone growths. Brunnex' energy consumption crystal was lit up pretty good.

This jacket's neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew! Brunnex cried accusingly suddenly ripping open his leather jacket, and the shirt underneath, to reveal glowing blue crystal. Come at me, bro! The 'bro' was an ironic callback to the fact they were technically both elves.

Shane didn't quite know what to decided. He was happy that he had passed another part of his training. He was excited to progress in his learning and grow even more powerful but that path he chose now may very well change his entire destiny.

The offensive art, Master, what does it entail? What will be the end result? I am stuck between that and the art of making runes out of flesh. Shane answered honestly.

Ju're bent at the knee slightly, and in the next instant he had crossed half the gap between him and Brunnex, in the next he was in the air two feet above Brunnex, bringing down his heel like the edge of an axe so quick it would take reflexes of demonic levels to dodge it. If the attack it the force would be enough to crush diamond into dust, and it was aimed from the crown of Brunnex's head.

Ju're's magical aura had an additional affect of making the air around Brunnex instantly hot, and added quite a bit of weight to his body simply by making the air thicker. Moving would be tougher than usual and he would find himself tiring at an accelerated rate, the only good point of this was that Ju're wouldn't be able to hold this state for very long. Of course, that meant he would waste no time in throwing absolutely everything he had at Brunnex before his power left him...

-

Fenrir almost giggled as he saw the soldiers atop the Fort walls ran over each other in an attempt to get the hell off of the wall as the giant red Dragon came in for a landing not fifty feet in front of their Fort. What stopped him from laughing was the fact that not even a year ago he knew for a fact he would have been doing the exact same.

What changed his attitude completely was when Erda did indeed land on the ground before the Fort, and was received by a dozen spear-armed men charging out of the Fort gates. They didnt know better sure, but that didnt mean their first reaction should be to attack on sight.

Reaching into his pouch from atop his horse was a little harder than he liked but in the time it took him to grasp the handle of the throwing knife he willed to be within the pouch, thanks dad, the men had only just got within throwing distance of Erda. Raising the dagger up in front of his face Fenrir held it at an angle and began accounting for all the variables of his throw; his moving position on his horse, the wind, the moving target, the distance, he thought of everything just as Faolin had stressed he do before every action. Bringing his arm back Fenrir tossed the knife and watched it soar through the air, already preparing his technique

-

Faolin watched from atop Erda as the gates to the Fort were thrown open and twelve armoured soldiers charged towards him and his partner. They were nothing if not brave, Faolin thought with a smirk as he leapt off of Erdas back as the dragon furled his wings into his back and watched only half-interested as he was charged by screaming Sardonians.

Faolin blinked, and in the instant it took to do so Fenrir had moved from his seat on his horse over a hundred feet behind to only a few tens of metres in front of the Sardonians, and he still held the dagger he had used to perform the vast leap of distance in hand. Faolin hoped the soldiers wouldnt make him use it, for their sake.

-

Fenrir flipped the dagger through the air as the Sardonians created a inward facing circle around him, their spears pointing towards him whilst the men kept shooting glances towards Faolin and Erda, both of whom watched on without making any attempt to hinder the soldiers or aid Fenrir.

After a moment Fenrir cleared his throat, hoping it didnt sound like he was doing so out of fear, and then shouted over the hubbub of the soldiers grunting and moving about in their heavy armour; We mean no harm, we are allies!

That caught their attention, he even saw some of them look towards Erda with overwhelming hope in their eyes, and after a moment the circle loosened and one of the soldiers in front of Fenrir lifted his spear and stepped forward. He was middle aged and had an untrusting look in his eyes, looking Fenrir up and down he frowned; Friends, you say? Yet you come at us with a dagger, and teleport to boot, thats no sign of friendship round these parts!

I didnt teleport, and the dagger is only in my hands in case you are unwise enough to attack me or my companions. We have travelled a great distance in the last few days and seek alliance and shelter, your leaders will punish you greatly if you scorn the friendship of Faolin the Rider and myself, that much I know for sure. Fenrir spoke in a tone totally unlike his regular one, it was commanding and stern, much like Achilles which is actually what Fenrir was going for.

Didnt teleport, bah! I see you do it with my own eyes man, dont lie to me! Now, your Rider buddy is on our watch-list so I know youre meant to be allies. The man seemed to take a moment to think, then nodded; Yeah, I suppose youre the group weve been expecting then. Your buddy arrived here yesterday with a bunch of Dwarves and refugees, we gave them shelter within the Fort as best we could but most of them had to make due with the forest nearby where some of our own troops are laying low. Come on in, well send a messenger-bird to Lord Troy right away and tell him about your arrival.

That would be most appreciated. Fenrir said gruffly as he deposited his knife into his special pouch, he was thankful that at the same time the rest of the spearmen lowered their spears and hurried off back in the direction of the Fort. He imagined they all wanted to put as much distance between themselves and the big-fire-breathing dragon as possible, he couldnt blame them really and yet he chose to do the exact opposite himself.

Faolin strode towards Fenrir as he done likewise, Erda remained behind however and watched the two close in on one another from afar, and soon the two were within earshot of each other. Faolin smiled slightly and looked passed Fenrirs shoulder; Well well, that looked like it went swimmingly.

There going to let us into the Fort, theyre sending a messenger bird to Lord Troy as well so Im assuming hes in charge of the Resistance in this area, if not the entire thing. Fenrir said hastily, wanting to give Faolin a status-report as quickly as possible so he could return to the refugees whom had stopped dead in their tracks the moment he had vanished from his horse, or so it seemed from afar.

Lord Emmon Troy is not the type to sit back in matters like this, hes most likely the leader of the Resistance as it stands just now. The sooner we get into contact with him the better, but for now you had best go tell the others what the plan is. Ill head into the Fort just now and scope things out, get an idea of what we have to work with here Faolin gave Fenrir a pat on the shoulder as he strolled by, Fenrir smiled but his mask hid it.

Not turning to see Faolin go Fenrir began the walk back to the caravan, Erda took off the moment Faolin began walking away, probably off to watch the surrounding area for signs of trouble

Brunnex didn't dodge it. Rather his hand shot up in a stunning display of speed and reflexes and twisted the son of a bitch around slamming him down into the ground swivelling himself around so his chest was pointing right at him. That was when he unleashed about four and a half gigawatts of pure energy. That'd be about 3 and two thirds lightning bolts of pure power. He'd be fried to say the least...

Brunnex managed to use Ju're's own stunning momentum against him and turned him around, forcing him to the ground and dazing Ju're with the impact. His body was working overtime and his cells were already crying out in pain, bleeding into his mind so much it was becoming hard to think straight, so when the impact rattled his frame of mind even more he was left at the mercy of Brunnex for a handful of seconds.

Of course, in true Brunnex fashion, the man capitalized on the opening instantly by releasing a huge amount of energy onto Ju're from point blank range, the result of which was a singed, ruined, carcass that barely resembled an Elven form. The Excess magic that had been stored within Ju're's body was violently expelled due to the sudden manner of his death, causing Brunnex to be blown backwards ten feet but it would have little real affect on him otherwise due to his bulky physique.

Brunnex had just cleared the village of the Elven threat, but in doing so he had almost certainly alerted the bulk of the Elven army to his real location. His clones would distract them for a time, but within the next half an hour at the most an execution squad would be sent to the village to investigate, and if Brunnex wished to keep his head atop his shoulders he had better hope he was gone by the time it arrived...

With offensive I will teach you what I can of attacking, of physically and mentally destroying your enemies, of the true attacking methods of blood magic, where you take control of your opponent's body and mind, and make him destroy himself and his friends. *Tourivil said this, realizing now why strange had stressed mental discipline and philosophical training before any actual magic was learned. Brunnex dropped the carcass. There was nothing for him there. It was much like when a deer gets hit by a grenade. Well you get the point.

He smirked to himself and shuffled over to the unconscious figures. He needed to get out of here before more of those delicious elves came. He might not even be able to defeat them in his weakest state.

In fact, just to help him on his way, he opened his jacket a little further to the hypnotic swirl on his stomach. He traced the spiral letting his finger move around and around and around and around until it seemed like the spiral was actually moving. His figer was getting impossibly fast at tracing and it seemed to be moving inward as if the spiral had actual depth. Suddenly blue arced out off spiral forking out and back into his skin the crystal on his chest rejuvenating some energy. Brunnex had just remotely consumed one of his clones giving him essentially all that Brunnex was including an almost full pool of his own magic. It was great to be Brunnex.

Brunnex walked over to his two 'comrades' and peered down at them. Can you guys walk? I know a safe place we can go but we'll have to cross a helluva lot of ground.

Shane considered it valuing it's uses. The best defence was a good offence, he reasoned, and why go easy on your enemies? They would not show you the same mercy. Though something niggled at Shane. He had not heard out what the runes of flesh were capable of and to truly weigh up these two avenues he need to know more.

What about the runes of flesh, Master? What sort of things will I learn then? Shane asked trying to sound polite despite his eagerness.

The bolts of magic had tore through the man's right shoulder, leaving his right arm hanging off in a horrible fashion, and his Ferrock partner had not faired much better though his scaled had absorbed enough of the blow that although his shoulder was still badly injured he would keep the arm unless he was hit by a serious case of bad luck.

"N-No..." The man managed to say after a few moments of silent agony...

Then I will first teach you how to make runes, beginning with the basics of runecraft. Then I will teach you how to make runes appear in the air before you, which is good for certain styles of attack and defense. Then, then I can teach you to make runes in and out of flesh. this will allow you to enchant the very material which your own and other bodies are made out of, and to create thing from flesh. Runecraft is more of a creative art, once you master the basics, you begin seeing ways to apply it that have probably occurred to no one else. While I am not one-Hundred percent sure, I believe that the treebeasts are an example of a creature made by a rune which has the ability to self replicate. That is an example of the sort of things you would be able to do.

Right. Brunnex said with finality. These guys weren't going anywhere and Brunnex didn't know if they were important to John or not. Okay guys. This won't hurt a bit. He told them. He crouched down placing his hand on either man's face. He then consumed them. Any knowledge that had that John needed he now had. To be honest after the deliciousness that is those elvenfolk humanity would never be the same.

Brunnex bent down scooping up John with one arm and slinging him over his shoulder. He then took off at an impressive sprint toward Una'Keth...

Shane considered his options. The fighting stuff was impressive but he felt that despite it's promise of greater fighting strength it lacked that newness that he thrived on. The runework sounded truly impressive and frankly something that could get his academic mind in gear once again. Shane had always been better with academics.

I'd like to enter the field of runework, Master, if I may. Shane answered sure to keep his reply short, to the point and respectful as he had been taught.

Auron grimaced as he read over the text once again, the same text he had read at least seven times now in the hopes that it would change before his eyes, yet hope as he might it remained the same. Slamming the tome shut he placed the book on the table to his right and rose from his stone-slab chair, which most certainly wasnt made for comfort.

Auron began pacing back and forth as he though, as he often did when he hit a roadblock in his research. This particular roadblock was particularly tricky, but if he managed to get around it his combat-abilities could potentially become with peer. An endless number of forgotten arts could be is, if only he could overcome this hurdle.

There was a way around it, or at least a way of perhaps attaining a way around it, but it was risky and it would cost him a great deal, though nothing he is unwilling to give. He had avoided that solution thus far in case things went totally wrong during the process, but it seemed that it was his final chance to make a break-through in his research any time soon.

Walking to the centre of his small bedchamer, though it could barely be called that since it did not house a desk but instead a solitary desk and a single chair carved from the stone wall, and pressed the palms of his hands together and closed his eyes as he began to speak;

Dark servant of Sazh I summon thee, appear before me and hear my request.

A golden Drachma appeared in the air before Auron, summoned from his personal stash elsewhere in the fort, and it didnt manage to clatter to the floor before it vanished in a flash of light. The air in the room chilled instantly, so much so that Auron could see his own breath, and in a matter of seconds a ghostly outline was forming in the air where the coin had disappeared.

Auron smiled as the spectre came into focus fully, though it should have been a fear-inspiring sight. The thing was an empty set of dark robes, filled out by an ominous black shadow that spread from the robes and filled the entirety of the room.

Why have you summoned me Demigod? I am not your pet, to be called to your side. The Spectres voice was shrill and raspy, and sounded altogether un-mortal. As it should, considering it was the voice of a gate-keeper spirit, basically Sazhs little helpers in ferrying spirits to different parts of the underworld.

Your reason for being here is simple spirit, you are going to return to the underworld and fetch me one who resides there. You will return this persons spirit to the mortal world for a time, not a full revival I simply need their mind intact so I can speak with them. Auron didnt care for the spirits attempt to sound imposing, it was little more than an errand boy so he didnt see why it cared so much whos errands it was doing. If anything it should be pleased, to have a hand in such important work as this.

I will do no such thing! The spirit called angrily; I should take you to the underworld for your arrogance, to think yourself able to command me to do your bidding! Sazh will hear of this attempt Demigod, and I assure you he will not be pleased.

Yes, yes Im sure he will and Im sure he wont be, but that is of little consequence to me. Im quite aware that my Uncle is unable to interfere with the mortal world right now, so his wroth doesnt really strike me with the fear it used to.

Now, back to the part where youre going to do as I tell you.

The spirits presence darkened within the room, clearly it didnt like Aurons attitude; No, I will do no such thing!

Auron summoned his staff to his left hand, making a hand-sign with the other one he created a spiritual-barrier around the room meaning that the spirit could not pass out of the room without first breaking the barrier. Holding the staff up for the spirit to see Auron grinned; Youll do as I say spirit, unless you want to spend the rest of eternity within my staff. Of course, Ill be glad for the addition to my collection but Id be so much gladder if you just cooperated and fetched me my dead-person.

The spirits angry presence receded almost instantly when it saw the staff, being replaced by a more cautious air. The spirit seemed to take a moment to think before replying; I..I will fetch you your spirit, but your uncle shall hear of this still!

Yes, whatever. You can do whatever you wish after Im done with you. Auron said with a slight chuckle, releasing the spiritual barrier as to allow the spirit to leave the room; Make a run for it, or dont return quickly enough and Ill personally chase you down and trap you in this staff, and youd better believe Im serious about that.

Now, as for the soul youll be rescuing; his name is Tenzu Himagi and hell most likely be locked away in a realm of punishment somewhere.

Now go, fetch boy.

The spirit lingered for a moment, momentarily returning to its angry state, but then it vanished from the room, leaving Auron to wait for his guest to arrive.

Then runework I shall teach you, to the best of my own ability. *Tourivil said, and using the tip of a finger, he began burning runes into the table top as he ate. He explained the basic forms and processes of runes, he explained the idea that the shape of the rune affect how it releases or stores magic, how a closed figure retained magic, while and open one released it. He explained how important intent was when crafting a rune, how the only difference between carving a fun square and a retention glyph was that one was made with intent and purpose on the part of the crafter, and how this was the secret of runes. He challenged shane to mimic his movement, and to make his own glyphs in the table top while Tourivil ate.

And perhaps most importantly, that the only way to become good at crafting runes was to practice as much as possible, and in as many places as possible. *

Not fifteen minutes after Brunnex fled the scene a squad of five Elves appeared in the centre of the village. After quickly discovering their target had fled the scene the Elves rounded up the villagers for questioning.

When the villagers failed to produce answers as to where the man that had slain the Elves had went the Elves named them Resistance-conspirators, a crime punished by death in most cases.

This was one of those cases, every last villager was killed and their body transported away from the villager for proper burial. The Elves might be foreign, brutal, invaders but they had great respect for the dead and would always bury their foes in Sardonian tradition if possible...

Shane nodded and carved as instructed making sure to ask questions when appropriate and pay full attention to his Master. He had chosen to train in the arts of Blood Magic and any less than his full devotion was an utter waste of his and his Master's time.

Shane was having difficult with the intent part. He wasn't quite sure what Tourival meant. How could he just have intent? I mean didn't he already have intent by drawing a rune? How come non-magical folks couldn't draw glyphs if it were all about intent. He just couldn't quite grasp it. With practise and more questioning he would. In this he had faith.

However before he could ask any more questions there was a knock at Tourival's door and an Inquisitor burst in bowing profusely and looking seriously worried...

***

Brunnex could run pretty damn fast as you might imagine which meant the trip didn't take long. The moment he had escaprd wherever it was he'd taken John from his clones throughout Sardo had given up, dispatched anyone following them and gave chase to the original so as Brunnex neared Una'Keth he raised quite a following.

By the time they hit dessert all forty-eight plus the original were together again. They marched through the dessert no longer caring for running. They marched in sombre silence as each Brunnex put their mind to the future and wondered of the reception they would receive. Brunnex knew about the elves but did not know if Tourival was still alive. All he did know was that Una'Keth would be safe until he could return to protect it. Brunnex had assumed Strange was protecting it.

As they neared the symbols on every denizen of Una'Keth and the Forest grew smaller and smaller. Thoughts, memories, recollections were begining to grow in the minds of those who had forgotten them. However they could not fully grasp them. Not yet. Not until the Protector had returned.

Said Protector and his army of clones marched toward the city. All too imposing and seemingly able to see them the Inquisitors were panicking. Especially when, from telescopes aplenty, it was seen the long curvature of their elven ears. There were fifty or so Elves approaching the city! Or at least this is what they thought for how could they know of Brunnex's change of body?

This is what the Inquisitor had interrupted Shane's lesson for. To tell Tourival of the approaching 'danger'.

Do not think of it as intent to make a rune, think of it as intent to create the effects of the rune. You must use your willpower, willpower is the mark of a true magis- *Tourivil was saying as he was cut off. The Inquisitor was shaken, something not befit of one in his position with his training, Tourivil Made a mental note to have this one put through the program again. Tourivil instructed Shane to continue his efforts while he addressed he problem.

Tourivil was feeling bold this day. With the characteristic bang that he and all who trained like him made, he teleported to perhaps a hundred feet in front of the gates of Unu'Kuth, wearing nothing but a simple robe and his arm guard. Something about this told him it was not a threat. It had been nearly a year, after all. It made sense that perhaps things were returning to normal. *

The spell was still in effect luckily enough and the elves would not register that teleportation though, of course, the spell was very soon about to break.

Brunnex stopped in his tracks. Brunnex2, 3, 4, 5 and all stopped abruptly behind him. Close as he was Tourival would now see that every single elf before him was exactly identical. Brunnex bent down and dumped the unconscious assassin into the sand.

I'm home. Brought you a present; not in my tastes but I thought you might like it. Brunnex finally said some moisture visible in his multiple eyes though only he had spoken. Brunnex outstretched a hand for a handshake stiffly. All of his fears were suddenly crushing down on him. Tourival thought he was a deserter; a traitor; weak. Tourival was the only man that had ever trusted him. Tourival was his only friend.

In the village, the archers who had joined John has collected many of their arrows in silence before quickly leaving. They knew that John had a plan, and it seemed as though it was working, and it was not their place to question him. They had left ten minutes before the village was blown up.
