"Very well, if no one has anything to add to this current discussion then I hereby call it to a close." Sir Tillion boomed loud enough that everyone in the room would hear him clearly; "Let us now start discussing battle tactics on the common man scale.

Duke Tourivil, this is your land and so I think it only fitting you report to us what sort of terrain we can hope to engage them on, as well as any tactical advantages we may be able to seize." Sir Tillion sat down, looking once again towards the host to start the new topic.

*Tourivil cleared his throat. *

Due to recent interference from certain entities, the surrounding region has been made into a desert, as you no doubt saw. Rolling sand dunes and everything. This puts us at an interesting place, as it is unlikely that us or our enemies have much experience moving or fighting in sand. So, I would suggest you begin drilling your men to deal with the sliding sands immediately. Other than that, all I can recommend is that we lure our enemy to the great battle ground, where the fate of all our gods was decided. It is a sacred place, and our men will be heartened, knowing that the gods are watching them.

"A wise battle plan indeed, Duke Tourivil." Lord Troy said flatly, his eyes ever-trained on the Duke; "Fighting upon this loose terrain would be as disadvantageous to our own men as it would to the enemy. Let us not forget that we are not facing idiots, they are no doubt prepared for combat in desert terrain.

If we draw the enemy to the site of The Ascension then we can hope to fight on well beaten, flat and stable ground, where the land of Sardo has already won a grand victory before. The morale boost will be considerable, and given the enemies that we face that may make all the difference."

"If we are to lead our enemy here, then I also suggest that we lay a trap for them in the form of a flanking charge of great proportions. Once we have them on the flat ground we can spring the trap and box them in, fighting a battle on two sides is tricky, even for the likes of Shang Tao and Jet."

"The only problem with this plan is how exactly to lead them there. The site is not very far from Unu'keth, but the problem is that it is the city they are no doubt targeting, not those within. If we leave the city unguarded in an attempt to lead the enemy astray, and into our trap, then the city may be overrun before we can re-bolster the garrison here fully.

We need a reason for the enemy to go to the battle ground, some form of bait perhaps, but of such a thing I know nothing."

"My assassins are the smallest group here, numbering only in the few hundreds. If we use the sand itse'f to hide a majority of our forces, then use my assassins to bait their forces into our trap, we can surround them with our forces and fight from all sides. A fight on all sides will mean they will be stretched thin to cover all areas of attack." John replied.

"I know the risks of being bait, and how to combat them. I can ensure that my men know at least the basics within the hour."

"How exactly would your assassins bait them away from Unu'keth, their sole target in this battle? Let us not forget that your assassins were washed aside by these men only a few weeks passed, and that was with the advantage of fort walls on their side." Lord Troy turned on John questioningly, keeping a calm voice and face all the while.

I am not sure that they would go for the city if they saw our army. *Tourivil remarked. * If they attacked it, it would leave them open to our army flanking them, or attacking from the rear, i very much doubt they would want to be hammer and anviled against the city walls. Even if we did allow them, and they were able to take the city, we could then just attack their weakened force. It seemed to me that if they have any brains, they will know that they must deal with our army first to accomplish their objectives.

"Yet, if they have any brains at all they would send Jet and half of their forces to take the city, whilst the rest would act as a rearguard whilst their allies worked." Lord Troy retorted quickly, clearly trying to think of any situation that may arise; "If we lose the city it will be a battle ten times harder than it must be to retake it. Not to mention the civilian casualties involved."

"You know, I'm not seeing a big problem here guys..." Balthazaar said, with a beguiled look on his face and a questioning tone in his voice; "I mean, if they're just going to attack the city, but we want them to run into the site we want to fight them on then why don't we just...Well, move the city?"

"Move the city?" Achilles echoed, with a voice that made the idea sound preposterous. Which was not hard, since it was.

"Yeah." Balthazaar smiled, clearly pleased with his input.

"Bal, I don't think that's really an option...I mean, moving an entire city seems a bit tricky, even for you." Fenrir piped in his worth, then blushed slightly as the eyes in the room turned on him.

"Pfft, I could throw this city to Olympus if I wanted to!" Balthazaar boasted, with as wide a grin as he could manage.

"Perhaps." Sir Tillion said, with an increasingly wild smile; "Perhaps...Balthazaar is right."

"Not about actually moving the city, the logistics of which are far too complicated to even imagine with such a short time on our hands, but of tricking the enemy into thinking we have moved it."

Toun blinked twice, and then began nodding as he began to understand what Sir Tillion meant; "That scale of illusion would be highly taxing on whoever tried to pull it off, and they would need an in depth mastery over the art to even consider holding the illusion long enough for it to matter. But...But if we could do it, if we could create a mirage of Unu'keth at the other side of our proposed battlefield, and at the same time make this one invisible, then perhaps we could indeed trick the enemy into charging headlong into our trap."

"I could do that." Desi stated simply. "I may be but half an average man but a master of illusion I once was and with Nunamo's aid I could be again."

"That's a trick and even I can see it. You plan to falter the illusion when the enemy comes and bring our plans to our knees." Brunnex countered quickly.

"Simply said if I wanted to damage this side's chances of winning I would have probably already acted seen as getting here undetected was such a child's play and you were all sat unawares bickering. Instead I revealed myself and contributed worthwhile information." Desi countered meeting Brunnex glare with an amused one of his own.

"I could aid if you required it." Offered Toun; "I have some rudimentary knowledge in the art, and if all else fails I can at least provide some magical support in the matter."

"I still think actually moving Unu'keth is a better idea..." Balthazaar said glumly, frowning at the fact that they had changed his master plan around.

If I used rather too much magic I risk being expelled from this body and, what's more, ripping it apart in the process." Desi explained itching at a rash on his irritated forearm. "While Nunamo is an apt fighter I'd rather keep him out of the fight and borrow his magical energies than burden another who could be much more useful in the grand scheme of things."

It seems to me that perhaps we should see from which direction they are coming from before we go so far as to move the city. *Tourivil said with a dry chuckle. * It could be they are going right where we want them to, or that perhaps there is more advantageous terrain on their current path.

"Our scouts report that they are heading straight through the city from the west, with the grassland to the northeast of the city it is highly doubtful they will cross it's path on their own terms. Otherwise I believe that they will be passing through normal circumstances for this area, that being sandy dunes." Sir Tillion said to Tourivil's idea of letting things lie as they were.

Ahh well, one could always hope that they were playing into our hands. As they are not,and I do not think it wise to tie up one of our more powerful mages maintaining an illusion, perhaps we should fight them in the sands after all? That or consider changing the sands into something else, which would not be unreasonable.

"I could condense, or compress I'm really not sure which, the sand so that it's more solid and what be such a bother to fight on." Balthazaar said cheerily; "I have consumed a few sand spirits in my time."

Deep within the ever-screaming recesses of Balthazaar's mind a single voice amidst the furious storm of souls, both demonic and mortal, screamed; "I'm a demon!" It was a long call, one that the myriad of endlessly raging souls swirling around this particular entity had heard a thousand times, and yet Balthazaar seemed none the wiser, visually at least, to the increase in the intensity of the voices in his head.

"If we do compress the sands, we could lay a trap once the enemy has come deep enough within the terrirory. The very ground they walk on could be swiftly unconpressed so that they fall prey to the sands and have a new tomb. It would work as a surprise attack and would decrease their number." Jasper stated, his arms still crossed.

"I am not so powerful yet as I would be a battle changer nor Nunamo despite his power. Once we have the enemy boxed in there would be no further need for said fake city anyhow and we could join the fight. The loss for this particular route is rather slim." Desi argued his cunning ways still around him even if everything else seemed to have failed him.

"We should continue with the plan to fight in the grasslands. After all the morale boost itself will be an invaluable ally." Shilack remarked with a soft yawn.

"We could always plant explosive glyphs over the grasslands to kull the enemy as they march toward the fake city." Brunnex suggested barely retraining a pulsing vein on his neck from showing.

Then again this falls under the same kinda thing as me just killing all the enemy myself, but you all seemed to ignore that idea so maybe I should just shush..." Balthazaar said, first with some evident glee, and then as he continued he became more depressed about what he was saying. It was clear Balthazaar did not enjoy the fact no one was listening to his ideas very much at all.

"EXACTLY!" Balthazaar exclaimed, suddenly ecstatic that someone was actually listening to him: "I mean, not to toot my own horn, though it is rather nifty if I do say so myself, but I HAVE already beaten two of these 'powerful' guys in a fight before. Almost killed them, but they're leader interrupted my fun and then ran away like a big baby before I could kick his butt as well."

"You're all babbling about how scary and awesome these guys are, but you're forgetting that you've got a bonafide badass-Alpha demon sitting at your table!"

"A what now?" One of the smaller Lords could be heard saying amongst the rabble created by Balthazaar's statement.

Lord Blightly growled savagely and eyed Balthazaar up like he was some sort of helpless deer, and Lord Blightly a proud lion; "Did you just say 'Alpha Demon', as in you are a demon?"

"Well...Yep." Balthazaar stated plainly, forgetting the bad air that followed around his kind.

"That is IT!" Lord Blightly rose to his feet, punching the table hard enough that it cracked at the edge. With a face bright red in fury he began yelling at all those at the table; "I had thought I had come to defend my home, my Sardo, but no! My Sardo would never ally itself with the filth gathered around this table, NEVER! Look around, my friends, look to your left and your right, what do you see? I'll tell you what I see! A filthy bloodmage, his monstrosity of a lapdog, some winged terror atop his shoulder, a Kintera, a Kingslayer and now to top all of that off a fully fledged demon! WHAT MADNESS!? We are the Lords and Knights of Sardo and we align ourselves with such unholy garbage? I will not stand for it, IT WILL NOT STAND!"

"Lord Blightly, please cal-" Faolin began, but was interrupted when Lord Blightly turned on him in full-rage mode; "HOW DARE YOU! You ungrateful little c**t! You dare tell a Lord to calm down? You are lucky I did not have your head all those years ago, you filthy low born swill!

And another thi-"

"Someone shut this buffoon up, before I have to." Achilles stated with a large yawn; "He really is beginning to make a fool of himself..."

"A fool? A FOOL!?" Lord Blightly's hand shot towards his hip, where a heavy sword shaped for the hand of some mountain giant sat, just waiting to draw blood...

"Move another single step and you will die." Brunnex intoned his hand coming to rest on the table.

"We are assembled here to protect Sardo regardless of race or profession." Shilack interjected trying to reason with the oaf before Brunnex did something he would regret. "Would you rather fight alone and die than accept our help, Lord Blightly?"

"You threaten a High-Lord of Sardo? You cretin, you pollute the air with every breath you take!" Lord Blightly wrapped his hand around the hilt of his sword, but made no move to draw it.

"Lord Blightly, take a seat." Lord Troy said calmly, when there was a pause in the action.

"Screw yer seat Troy! Duke Tourivil, your friend has made a threat against my life, a great crime indeed. Would you stop Sardo's justice from being carried out?" It was clear what Lord Blightly was asking here. It was also clear to just about everybody else at the table that if Blightly did indeed move to kill Brunnex, then it was he would be dying instead.

"Lord Blightly, need I remind you that many at this table could defeat you with nothing but a wave of their hand. This Alpha demon we have at our table fought and almost died at the very same battle, and on the same side, as our dearly beloved gods. This Alpha Demon fought and beat gods on his own, so the mere thought of him possibly wiping out this entire army we face, all on his own, in not a far fetched idea." John replied, calmly, but increasing the volume of his voice as he spoke.

"So, if you want to save the lives of your own men, I suggest sending him out first. Considering that their leader can revive the dead, the less we lose the better. Otherwise I fear that we will simply be fighting men who have just died next to us. And that would not be very good for Morale, would it?" He finished, asking the question as if daring blightly to say that it would.

"Be silent Lord Sicarius, mind your own business." Lord Blightly said in reply to John's attempt to calm/quell his rage. It was clear that Lord Blightly still awaited a reply from Tourivil concerning the death threat made by Brunnex against him.

Sir Tillion's weathered hands dug deeply into the armrests of his chair, he was breathing slightly irregularly and was facing the table with his eyes closed. He was either having some sort of sleep-related panic attack, or he was becoming very very angry...

My dear lord blightly. *Tourivil said, calmly. * You have come into my house, and I have taken you into it in good faith, and with all due hospitality. I have supplied your men with food and drink, I have welcomed you to sit at my table. And here you are now, insulting my guests and friends, threatening violence in one of the most holy places in my faith, and tell me that I am filthy for practicing my master's arts.

I like to think of myself as a patient and diplomatic man, Lord Blightly, but you are out of order. I am a duke of this nation, Brunnex is the mayor of this city and my most trusted aide. All justice within these lands is mine. You have no right to carry out anything here. I am going to give you a very simple choice. You will either leave this city, take your men, and return home, or I will have you quartered for insulting my honor, and the honor of my guests. You are no longer welcome here, you have shown your true colors as an easily panicked coward, not worthy to fight for the glory of Sardo. The king will hear of your lack of control.

Now, begone.

"You will rue this day you besotted scum, the day you angered the ancient house of Blightly. The King will hear of everything I have said this day, and of how every man at this table sat and watched as the laws of this land which we hold so very dear were trampled on and thrown aside for these disrespectful bloodmages.

When next we meet I hope for your sakes you have learned some humility, Duke Tourivil." Lord Blightly stormed out of the room without further word, slamming the door behind him hard enough to shake the hinges.

"Well thank fu-" Achilles began with a smile, when Sir Tillion's anger could no longer be held back.

Shooting to his feet like a man half his age Sir Tillion slammed his fist on the table; "Well done good Lords and Dukes, well bloody done! As that fool of a man leaves, he takes thousands of well trained and disciplined men with him, as he leaves so does the stability and fortitude of a fully united Sardo! We have lost the faith of our men now, we have lost a thing I hold very dear indeed!

Brunnex, with all due respect, in the future you will learn your station, or learn to hold your tongue, otherwise I have no time for you in places like this. Achilles your skill in battle is without peer, but by the Gods if you dare speak out of turn in my presence again I swear to the Three above that you will regret it!

And Tourivil, you fool..You downright fool..." Sir Tillion sighed helplessly here, but then continued with renewed rage: "Unu'keth is at it's strongest, and yet weakest, ever, and has only recently joined with Sardo as a sovereign city, and you think it is wise that now, now of all times, you anger a house as large and power as Blightly? I falter not to think that you may win whatever war Lord Blightly will start with Unu'keth, but I dare say I hope that you know the bloody wrath that man will bring down upon your peoples before he is done.

As acting Field Marshall of this force I will not stand for any continued hostility in our ranks. If you have a problem with what I have said, or me as a leader, or anything else, then I suggest you make yourself very clear right now, or get the hell out of my sight. This inner turmoil will be the death of us all if it is continued!" Not seeming to calm at all Sir Tillion brooded tall over the table, daring anyone to speak up. Although Sir Tillion may be past his prime, it was clear that he still had the mind of a stern leader.

John leaned back in his chair, wondering how long he should wait before assassinating Lord Blightly. He might even give the man the chance to fight him one on one, if he survives this battle. "Would it be wise to try and convince Lord Blightly to return, if only to help save Sardo? In the event we all die here, it would be only his forces left to defend Sardo, and I doubt he would be able to stand up against any army that rises from this battle." He asked calmly, and changing the subject slightly.

"I'll see if I can get him back on side before he leaves camp, after this meeting has ran its course." Toun said with some hope in his voice.
