Shane stood his magnificent crimson fluttering in an unseen wind. He carefully tapped a fork to a crystal wine glass. A clear crystal ring could be heard all around the room. The absent chattering of folks died down almost instantly. When the lingering noise was finally gone Shane opened his mouth.

I know little of my father, Shane started his voice washing over the audience like the waves of the sea. and neither of my mother. I never really knew family despite my Uncles attempts Not until I met Fen.

I remember the first time we met clear as day, and I should as it was not quite so long ago, after some rather dubious circumstances I ended up teleported to some random place. My stomach isnt quite a fond participator in teleportations I found when I was abruptly sick all over the shoes of the first person I met. Isnt that right, Fen?

Fen and I decided to start traveling together and from then our friendship grew. It grew and grew until Yumi here came along. No, thats not what Im implying for after that we grew into a trio and our bond grew even larger until finally I knew family and still continue to. Do you know why? I have a brother and sister right here. Our bond is stronger than blood and I could think of no better woman for my brother and no better man for my sister. Truly a match made in Olympus. He smiled genuinely at the two his love and care for both swelling in his heart.

For the loving couple I present to you fifteen sovereigns of a rather hefty inheritance a rather blue elf delivered to me a few days ago. As your only family I cant have Yumi married without a suitable dowry. He clapped once and a pouch of gold appeared at the head of the table by the married couple.

For Fen I think I owe you some shoes. He clapped twice and white-gold, ornately crafted boots appeared next to the pouch of gold. Ive been assured they are practically weightless yet can become as sturdy as a mountain should you need to keep yourself upright. Good for jumping too should you be jumping for joy at your new union.

For Yumi a dress for a girl truly cannot have enough of those. He clapped thrice and a white, sparkling dress appeared neatly folded by the boots. Every thread seemed to twinkle a magnificent hue of blue in the light. Spun by the light of the blue moon this enchanted dress is sure to keep Fen reeling for many days after your sheer beauty alone already does.

Those are my gifts and this is the end of my speech. To Fenrir and Yumi! He toasted his wine glass suddenly full.

To Fenrir and Yumi! The onlookers echoed as they clinched their glasses together and clapped heartily. The uproar died down almost instantly as the richly-clad form that was Faolin stood up, raising his glass Faolin grinned widely; In all my years I have never met a couple more perfectly matched than the two that are wed this day. Having thoroughly emptied my pockets for this day to be all it is I am red-faced to say that I cannot nearly afford a gift worthy of such a union, but I hope what gift I can provide is worthy enough.

Faolin clicked the fingers of his three hand, and a metallic mask with a clear black jagged line down the centre appeared on top of the growing pile; The mask of your greatest foe Fenrir, I know that near the end you two shared a moment of clarity that I cannot understand, I hope that it reminds you of the lessons you learned at the tip of the mans blade. Faolin grinned and clicked his fingers once more, adding two long silver earrings studded with what appeared to be glittering crimson perfectly flat rubies; To you, Yumi, I gift a pair of personally forged Dragonscale Earrings. Erdas own scales were used for the gems, and I think youll find them entirely unique.

To Fenrir and Yumi!

To Fenrir and Yumi!

When Faolin sat down it was Laos turn to stand next. The man bowed to the room, picking up an entirely full wine glass that he was yet to touch he spoke with perfect clarity only one entirely sober can muster; I have not known Fenrir, or Yumi, for very long but the time I have spent with both of them has been some of the best in my life. I have never met a more skilled young man than Fenrir, or a more spirited and beautiful young women as Yumi. I am not a man of wealth like those before me, but as a gift I offer both of you a matching set of ornate swords. Lao clicked an a pair of opal hilted Katanas were added to the pile, their sheaths were painted exquisitely with images of golden dragons breathing golden fire. He raised his glass higher;

To Fenrir and Yumi!

To Fenrir and Yumi!

Balthazaar exploded out of his seat even before the clapping had ceased for Laos speech, the crowd of onlookers stopped abruptly as Balthazaar began to yell over their dim of noise; I remember when I met Fenny, such a funny little lad he was I tell ya, quite a handsome boy if I say so myself, but his father did have such a fine chiWell, thats a different matter altogether! Fenny and Yumi are such a great couple, not as good as me and my wife of course, but they are a close second I tell ya! So, as a gift I give both of you a matching pair of bracelets made by yours truly! Brunny has a similar one, so you know theyre special!

Two sparkling silver bracelets were added to the pile as Balthazaar raised not one, but two glasses, and yelled in a booming voice;

TO FENNY AND YUMI!

The crowd were halfway through saying to Fenny and Yumi when they corrected themselves;

To Fenrir and Yumi!

When the clapping finally died down Achilles took the floor, not bothering to raise a glass he began his speech; Fenrir and Yumi are a good match, even I can tell that much. I hate these damn speeches, so Ill just get to the gifts; Fenrir, to you Im giving a personally forged pair of gauntlets. To you, Yumi, I give a pearl necklace I looted from a battle a hundred life times ago.

Achilles sat down without adding to the chant, the items appeared on the now rather large pile.

To Fenrir and Yumi! The onlookers chanted anyway.

Next came Jasper.

*Tourivil stood on the highest balcony of the great temple in the center of the city. He wore a shining silver brestplate, a green velvet cape fluttering in the wind gently, his arm guard and silver headpiece had been burnished and polished til they shone, and he no long held a staff of bone and gold. The gold and bronze in it had been melted down, the bone burnt in the forge which had fueled the fire. Now he had a short cane, or perhaps a shillelagh. A head made of a solid piece amber the size of a fist, the symbol of the eye burnt into it, the staff made of gold wrapped in bronze. He lent forward on this as the newly equipped army of Unu'Kuth, ten thousand steel breastplates glowed up at him, dotted amongst them two thousand more silver armored inquisitors with their red battle capes. They all stared up at him, waiting for the prophet to reveal the word of god to them.

Tourivil stared back down at them, and raised his cane to the air, a shining ray of glowing light pierced the heavens, illuminating him. He then spoke.*

Brothers! Battle is again nearing us, but you know this all to well. You can feel it in the air. The entire kingdom has assembled here to fight the greatest battle we can ever hope to see. They are not like us, and we are not like then, but that is not important now. What is important is that we are all united against evil, literal evil, godless evil.

Strange spoke to me today. He told me the future, and what could be. He told me that if we follow his teachings, and hold his light in our hearts, then one day, Unu'Kuth will be the greatest city on this world, and then, at the peak of our brilliance, when all others aspire to be like us, to reach the lofty goal we have set, we will ascend to the heavens, and into the warm bosom of our god, and we will know a paradise the likes of which none can imagine! And strange will take all of our honored dead spirits there too! Some of them are already with him, waiting for us! *The crowd cheered heartily at this, all imagining the heroes who had died fighting the demons with strange. *

But, *Tourivil said, and the cheering died. * if we lose his light, cast aside his teachings, grow weak in spirit and arm, then Unu'Kuth shall be a wasteland, burned to ash by invaders, and strange will bar shut the gates of paradise, and throw out all in it. He will chose a new, more worthy people. So, we do not hold his light just for ourselves, but for our ancestors! Imagine the disgrace and shame to be cast out for your children's failure. *The crowd became angry and despairing, with most of the soldiers swearing blood oaths amongst themselves. *

Now, what does strange say in regards to battle? *Tourivil posed to the crowd, and the response was immediate twelve thousand voices yelled back a cacophony of things, to stay strong for battle, to train for battle, to show no fear or mercy in battle, and to think not of yourselves, but of the many in battle. *

*Tourivil grinned down at the audience, and raised his shillelagh for silence. *

You, you my brothers, I sense no fear in your hearts. I look down on you all, and I see the bravest of the brave, the truest of the true, and the strongest of the strong. I will not lie to you, our attackers are strong, undead abominations and foul necromancers all of them.

*At this point Tourivil was interrupted by an inquisitor in the crowd who raised his sword, the sun glinting off the polished, razor sharp blade. *
"I care not if they be gods! I will strike down all who dare attack us with this blade, this I swear on the soul of my father, and all of his fathers before him! "

*Immediately, the entire crowd raised their newly made swords, their spears, their bows to the airs, and began swearing similar oaths. Tourivil could only grin. They were finishing the sermon for him. He yelled down to them. *

And this, this my brothers, is why we can never be defeated!

Jasper stood, wearing a magnificent set of matching shirt and trousers, decorated silver and purple. It somehow made his better features stand out more, making his slightly pudgey face seem thinner, and his muscular frame seeming slightly bigger. As he stood up, blinking and picking up his wine glass, he spoke.

"Like others have said, Fenrir is a strong, and noble warrior. For one so young, it is already obvious how much he can and will outclass many of us in skill. In that regard, dear Yumi is perfect to be the one to complete him, sharing many aspects of her personality with Fenrir, yet both increase the better aspects of the other.

Because of this, my gifts share that quality. " Jasper held out his spare hand, and two belts popped into excistance. One looked like it was made from perl and solid gold, while the other was a emerald incrused Silver belt. Both were obviously very flexible. He then looked at them as he spoke next.

"For Yumi, I have here a belt designed to enhance any healing properties one owns, while still being able to fit any dress. For Fenrir, I have a belt designed to increase ones speed five-fold, allowing much quicker reactions in battle." Turning back to the crowd, Jasper lifted his glass, already half empty. "To Fenrir and Yumi" He said to the crowd, "and may your love last forever", he said quietly, so that only those closest to Fen and Yumi heard him"

_ _ _ _ _

On one of the back tables, joining in every single drink, sat John. He might not have known either Fen or Yumi, but he was a Lord now, and he knew the meaning of gaining friends easily. After all, he did have a rather nice gift that hadn't been said yet, one fit for a Demi-god.

"To Fenrir and Yumi!" The crowd slurred back, most of them having to take a moment to refill their wine glasses for the next toast.

It was Toun whom stood next, a fine oaken staff in his left hand whilst his left hand a half-drained wine glass. He smiled to the crowd and blinked both eyes together several times before beginning; "I have only met Fenrir Shalza very briefly and his lovely wife even less so, yet even I can see clearly the loving bond these two have formed together. It is not often that In this land of blood and battle that love gains enough time and care to grow and blossom, but thankfully this love endured the hardships of Sardo and brought these two together.

In the way of gifts the happy couple has received many great tokens this day, I find myself at a loss to match the majesty of great blades or the scale of a dowry worthy of a Lord, but hope my most humble of gifts brings both man and wife some joy.

Tapping his staff lightly on the ground Toun teleported his gift onto the table beside the pile, making sure that it was a safe distance away from the nigh-toppling tower of gifts. The gift in question was a small glass case of a hemi-spherical design, in which was a rose like no other. Every petal was a different colour, each as bright and vibrant as the last, and at the very centre rose a tiny stem atop which grew a small pink ball of fuzz which looked so delicate that even the sealed-tight containers climate might cause its destruction.

The Ever-Rose, a single seed is produced every four hundred years and it takes a decade of delicate care for the flower to blossom, but when it does the flower will live forever as a natural beauty with no equal. May your love last until the last petal dies. Toun raised his wine glass with a deep bow of his head, so that the glass was above his head slightly; To Fenrir and Yumi!

To Fenrir and Yumi! Touns speech drew an applause so great the very walls of the palace trembled before it, the onlookers began standing up as they clapped. It was the least practical gift so far, but also by far the most symbolic of a marital relationship.

Toun sat down with a calm smile, taking only a sip from his wine glass.

The din of the crowd cut off once more as the final man at the high-table stood, King Izandi himself, holding a golden goblet filled the brim with wine. He smiled and lifted his goblet towards the couple; What a day to celebrate this is, truly a wedding of the ages. I find myself at a table of men of great wealthy, power and imagination, and truly I feel a sense of dismay. For the loving couple I can offer nothing but my greatest hopes for their union and a further ten sovereigns for their already impressive dowry.

May you live always in the loving sight of your new partner, and for the glory of Sardo; To the Shalzas!

To the Shalzas! The crowd roared back at their King, clapping their hands in a furiously joyous cacophony of noise.

Any other who had brought a gift for the couple would be expected to announce thusly just now, as the claps of the crowd died down to a low growling rumble. If no was presented themselves then it would be expected for the couple to stand and say thanks for their many great gifts

-

Ryuk stood outside the hall, a steel sword attatched to his hip. He wore his normal clothes and stood slumped against the wall, glaring at any who dared near the doorway to the hall where the wedding reception was.

Ryuk did not like parties, nor was he one for giving gifts. He would stand guard here whilst his master enjoyed his little night of peace and happiness, knowing full well that on the morrow they must depart for war.

(You have until Monay the 1st of Octobor at five o'clock in the evening to post your gift from John, Joker, before I finish the wedding off.)

John stood, and stood up so quickly it was fairly obvious he was only tipsy, yet his words were spoken as if he were sober. "Although I have met them but a few times, I feel as a Lord of this great nation that a Demigod and his wife deserve the best of homes." He started to say, just as the clapping was nearing it's end. "As such, on the far eastern border of Sardo, near a beautiful lake, lies a Fort. It is this Fort that I give to you both, so that you may spend your lives there for decades, and genertion after generation of your family will be brought up in the splender of such a Fort."

When he finished, he toasted the couple as everyone else had done, but he then sat down slightly quickly.

Several more low Lordlings and Knights stood and pledged gifts of smaller note after Lord Sicarius had gifted his fort, which concluded the gift portion of this affair.

Fen and Yumi fidgeted out of each others grasps and rose to their feet, Yumi bleary eyed and Fen with the widest grin he had ever pulled, their hands were locked but their eyes were meeting apart as they each looked at the individuals before them. In truth they knew very few of these men and women very well, most not at all actually, but still they had all gathered for their special day and had been the dream guests.

Clearing his throat as best as he could Fen said, with a voice thick with both wine and latent emotion; We cant thank you enough, you guys. Really, this is the best day of my life, and Im really happy that all of you could be here. Especially you, Shane. Fen turned and smiled at Shane; If not for you then I probably would never have met Yumi, Ill never be able to thank you enough. Turning back to the rest of the room; Or any of you. Youve all be so kind to me, Ill work for the rest of my life to repay the debts I owe, to both my lovely wife and to all of you. Fenrir pulled Yumi close to him and side-hugged her, pecking her on the cheek. Yumi smiled, turning her head she kissed him back, this time it was their lips that met for a long time.

Upon releasing her husbands lips Yumi steadied herself and caught her breath, after a moment of blank smiling she spoke up; I..I dont know what to say. I so happy, I never thought Id ever meet someone like Fenrir, or get married in a palace, or have such caring friends. I-I-I.. Yumi began tearing up, as women are want to do in these sorts of situations; Th-thank you all, so much. She managed after wiping her eyes several times. Fen embraced her once again as the crowd rose to their feet and began applauding the speeches, cheering even.

Thus the gift stage of the wedding was over and the rest of the meal-time went as these things generally do, except with more spontaneous outbursts from a less-than-sane age old Demon than your average wedding. After some time the tables were cleared and a dance floor was set up, several singers and musicians made their way into the hall and soon after the entire palace sung songs of love and passion, of great warriors, your average bards songs really. Yumi and Fenrir led the guests in for the first slow dance, after which everyone made their way to the floor for a good ol ho-down.

-

Hold it right there, no one gets in, so beat it. Ryuk said as he pushed himself off of the wall, his hand taking hold of the hilt of his sword as the duo approached.

The duo in question clearly meant to attend a special occasion, their attire was nothing less than royal, and the way they held themselves spoke of noble descent for sure. Or so Ryuk thought.

The man wore golden armour forged from a metal so luminous it hurt to look upon it when the man moved, a heavy golden cloak was pinned to his wide shoulders and was threaded beautifully with an intricate pattern showing a great tree of a thousand branches with a sea of blooming flowers. His hair was almost as golden as his armour, and tied back into a long ponytail held by solid silver thread so thin it was nigh-invisible. His eyes were ageless, kind and yet unknowably powerful in nature. His chin was covered by a neatly trimmed goatee of the same gold as his hair. He was undeniably a handsome man, even Ryuk could not deny as much, and he had the obvious swagger of a skilled, or arrogant, warrior. On his hip was a sheath made of a fine light leather, in which was an ornate short sword, the handle of which was polished ivory, the pommel was carved into the head of a great eagle. In all the man looked like he was higher of birth than any monarch dare acclaim themselves to be, and he looked as if he knew as much himself.

The women was a wispy pale vision of beauty, both frail looking and yet with an air of undeniable confidence. Her hair was a chestnut brown and was cut shorter than her partners was, but still long enough that it warrented the tight bun the hair was tied into. Her eyes were dazzlingly blue, and her face was clearly that of an older women but still held more youth than any women of her obvious age had a right to do. Her figure was perfect and was only emphasised thusly by the tight fitting silken dress of light blue that she wore, with a half dozens thin silver bangles on one wrist and a matching set of earrings as her jewellery to go with the dress. She was a painters vision, a sculptors wet dream, ever inch of her body was flawless.

The duo walked with their arms locked and in a leisurely fashion. Upon hearing Ryuks command to turn around the man chuckled to his partner, and then smiled to his partner; Oh, I think youll find well be the exception to that rule.

Oh yeah, whys that then? Ryuk said, showing the man several inches of his blade as he continued to approach. He would never say so, but the bloody air around this guy was telling Ryuks very being that if he attacked this guy, he was dead. Still, he would gladly die to give his master a fair warning of this mans arrival, if he did indeed mean Fenrir harm.

Cant you tell? The golden warrior asked, clearly bemused, after a moment he smirked and walked right passed Ryuk; Were the grooms parents.

-

Yumi had her head on Fenrirs shoulders as the two lazily danced back and forth to a sombre tune in the background, surrounded by other couples dancing similarly, and yet to her the only people in the room were her and Fenrir. Today had been the perfect day, absolutely nothing could be improved about it, nothing at all.

Smiling to herself Yumi lifted her head off of Fens shoulder and pulled herself away slightly so that she could look at Fens face easier, but it was at the exact moment that she done that that she heard a great creaking noise, followed by shocked gasps and the abrupt ceasing of the music. She could tell instantly by Fens face that something wasnt right. She had never seen him like that, his eyes were plate-sized and a mixture of confusion and tears waiting to break free, his jaw was locked open and he seemed to have totally forgotten that Yumi was still in his arms as he stared at the doorway.

Letting go of Fen Yumi turned to see what he was looking at, noticing that everybody else in the room was also doing so. When she spied the duo in the doorway she wasnt quite sure what she was seeing, other than the most extraordinarily perfectly beautiful couple she had ever seen in her life. After a moment her brain jarred into action and focused more on the male of the duo, her eyes almost popped out of their sockets when she realized who she was looking at. She began to stammer, pulling on Fens sleeve without even looking at him; Tha-Tha-LaLaza-.Fen, thats your d-dad. Turning around she saw that her husband was now weeping freely and looked as if he might drop into the foetal position any second.

Ye-yeah.. He said after a moment; And my mum too

Yumi spun back around so fast he almost gave herself whiplash. Her mouth dropped even further as he took a better look at the women, her mother, who stood next to a God as if he were any normal man. She couldnt believe what she was seeing, a God and her husbands mother at the same time. Her new in-laws. The sudden realization, and mild fear, caused Yumi to become faint and wobble on her feet slightly.

Fen scooped her up instantly, taking her in one strong arm to steady her. Taking a deep breath he wiped his eyes with the other hand and cleared his throat, half-shouting he addressed the new comers; I was wondering if you were gonna show dad. He grinned, but his attempt at playing it cool was blown when he looked at his mother again and could not hold his tears back.

Well. Lazarus said as he and Fens mother stepped into the room fully, walking past the crowd of stunned onlookers without second thought; We couldnt miss our own sons wedding, now could we?

You look so handsome Fenrir. Fens mother added in with a teary-eyed smile that would shatter the heart of any man. It was easy to see why Lazarus had fallen for this particular mortal, she may not be a God in the actual sense, but she was as fair as any Goddess could ever hope to be.

Th-Thanks mum. Fenrir said through sniffs. Taking Yumi by the hand he led her towards his parents. With every footstep Yumis anticipation grew. She had never met Fenrirs parents before, and now that she could see how picture perfect they clearly were she really didnt want to. There was no way they would like her, no way she would be good enough for their son, just no way.

Yumis fears were thoroughly destroyed when Lazarus stepped forward and embraced both her without hesitation, after a moment he said; Ive always wanted a daughter, and I couldnt hope for a better one. When he let her go Yumis eyes burst, leaving both Husband and Wife crying like infants on their wedding day, as was right.

Next Fenrirs mother hugged Yumi, with the same ease that Lazarus had showed even though this was their first meeting. She took a deep breath as they hugged and patted Yumi on the back; Its lovely to meet you Yumi, you can call me Willow if you want.

Wh..What about Mum? Yumi asked shakily, having never actually met her mother Yumi had always dreamed one day of having someone she could look up to and call mum.

Willow tightened her hug and smiled, showing her perfectly white teeth, whilst at the same time she was clearly trying to fight back her own tears; Of course, of course.

Fen hugged his father, and Lazarus hugged him back. The hug was short, just long enough to warrant being called a real hug. Upon the two of them standing straight again Lazarus grinned even wider and said; I bring a gift from either of your uncles, and one from myself. We shall speak of mine later, but for now know that your Uncle Sazh has allowed your mother to return to this world for one full day, long enough to enjoy your wedding but after that she must return with me to Olympus.

Your Uncle Brun on the other hand has gifted you a bottle of his secret formula that makes even the foulest of drinks as pleasing as your heart calls for. He asked me to pass along a personal message as well, as well as his condolences for not being able to attend personally. His message was; May your drinks be as sweet as your marriage. He always did have a way with those things

Fenrir wiped his tears with the back of his hand; Tell themTell them I said thanks, and thank you as well dad.

What for? Lazarus asked with a smile. The bards must have noticed that nothing dangerous was going to happen because they began playing again, and the guests did their best to not stare at the Demi-God, God, and human family occasion. As hard as that was.

For coming today, it..It means a lot, to Yumi as well. Fen said as his mothers embrace found him next. Not waiting for a reply from his dad Fen squeezed his mother tightly and whispered; Im so sorry I couldnt save you mum, Im so so-

None of that now. Whats done is done, today isnt about that, today is about you and my new daughter, now be happy Fenrir! His mum smiled at him and wiped a stray tear away when she stopped hugging him.

The four of them pulled together for a family/group hug then, but it was quickly ruined when Balthazaar seemed to notice, for the first time, that Lazarus had entered the building.

LAZAAAAAARUS! The Demon crossed the room so fast that he appeared to be a blur, joining in the family moment without second thought. The Shalzas, and parents, only laughed and allowed the demon into their shared embrace, they all knew too well what Balthazaar was like.

-

The night went on well onto the early morning, with the addition of Lazarus and Willow the weddings mood was greatly increased even though it had seemed impossible before. Fen dragged Shane in front of his father and mother and introduced them to each other, introducing Shane as; My long lost brother. Both Lazarus and Willow warmed to Shane quickly enough, and by the end of the night they were all one big happy family.

Fen went to bed that night knowing full well that both of his parents would be gone when he awoke, but he was not sad. No, he spent the night with his new bride, and knew that even if his parents couldnt be there for him all the time, Yumi would always be there, and so would Shane. That was enough to stop Fenrir from raging about his mothers fate, that and the fact his father had reassured him countless times over the course of the night that she spent every moment of her afterlife in luxury on Olympus.

-

After spending several hours in the late afternoon laying in bed in Yumis sweet embrace, Fenrir dragged himself out of bed and prepared for what he knew must come now. He had a new attire to wear to battle now, which was a pleasing thought to him, but he also worried about how encumbering the entire thing would be.

He wore the breastplate of his wedding armour as well as the greaves, both re-polished by servants before he adorned them. His hands were covered by the dark-steel gauntlets forged by Achilles. They were tight fitting, skin-tight actually, and were more like repeating ringlets of folded metal than actual gauntlets. They were as flexible as Fen could hope for, which was good since he had feared they might have made it tricky to use is sword if they had been rigid. On his waist was the silver belt that Jasper had given him, it was tied tightly around his waist, so much so that several long inches of spare belt hung down his right leg loosely. The bangle that Balthazaar had given him was on his left wrist, it scrapped against the metal of his gauntlets when he moved but he had been assured by both Balthazaar and Achilles during the night that that wouldnt be problem for either object. His feet were covered by the boots that Shane gave him, which were far more comfortable than he had imagined they would be. Finally Laos katana hung on his right hip, whilst his own sword hung on his left.

On his right thigh was tied a small grey pouch, the gift his father had given him. It apparently held an infinite amount of throwing knives and throwing stars, Lazarus had gotten the idea because he had seen that Fenrir had liked Nahkaro, and Nahkaros countrymen used this type of weapon commonly.

Upon doing a few practise movements Fen was happy to see that his movement wasnt diminished too much, but was a little worried about the added weight tiring him out quickly. He would get used to it eventually, he hoped, but he needed to be able to fight now as well as later.

Kissing his new wife goodbye Fenrir made his way to the area where he was meant to meet the others that were making their way to the battle with him.

When he got there Faolin, Lao, Ryuk, Achilles and Balthazaar already stood around the courtyard of the palace talking to one another. Each man wore their standard battle outfit, each looking like they could kill an army on their own. They would wait for Shane before leaving.

Jasper and John hadnt stated if they were making their own way there or not, so the group would not wait on them before leaving.

Shane had awoken slowly and blissfully that morning. He was not quite a drinker and, despite having a merry time the night before, was lacking the dramatic after effects most guests would be experiencing this morning though, in part, that could be attributed to his Demigod constitution.

As he awoke naked and alone in his bed he rose with a blissful smile; a smile which was not to last. Alone He wondered for how much longer it would be before he had found his own companion.

As if in answer there was a knock upon his door then. His breakfast most likely. He snapped both fingers and he was adorned in the fine crimson robe again. He strode to the door and opened it curiously. For once his room was not a disaster area so he could afford to let the servants see it for themselves rather than hide as much of it from them as possible as per usual.

He was surprised to find not a stiff, old butler but a rather fetching young maid around his age or thereabouts. She stood a head or two below him with light brown wavy hair and bright green eyes like his. She was not a porcelain princess or an exotic beauty but this did not seem to matter to the momentarily awestruck Shane.

Come,,, come right in Shane forced himself to speak.

She entered with a curtsey. Little did he know but the moment she had lain eyes on him a blush had settled in about her cheeks. She stood rather awkwardly inside his chambers for a moment before finally Shane recalled his wits enough to tell her to put the tray down over there by the fire.

She bent over to place the tray down and when she stood and turned she found Shane rather close. Her face was now almost completely scarlet. Mi,,, Milord, is there anything more I can,,, can do for you? She asked timidly.

You can kiss me. Shane said simply and closed the gap between them

***

A somewhat dazed looking Shane arrived a half hour after Fen did still in his crimson robes carrying his trident loosely in his right hand. His hair was a mess and he had the look of a man who wasnt quite sure what he had just been doing.

"SHANEY!" Balthazaar called as he spotted Shane enter the courtyard in a daze, the Demon had been listening to Achilles and Faolin swap sword techniques, and as such quite bored. That was the reason he saw Shane before the others, simply because his mind was looking for anything of actual importance.

Faolin regarded Shane with a smile, then continued talking to Achilles. Achilles didn't bother stopping his sentence at all. Ryuk grunted towards the boy, he was standing well away from the group watching Fen with vigilant eyes. Lao bowed, taking care to make sure his bo staff did not hit the ground as he done so.

It was only Fen that moved towards the youth, smiling as wide as ever as he done so; "Shane! You look...Confused, what's up? Nervous about the battle I bet? Don't you worry now, I won't let those evil doers hurt you." Fen was being jokey with Shane, he was in that sort of mood.

Jasper walked out into the courtyard, adorned in what appeared to be a light leather chest plate. No one had actually seen Jasper prepare for a long fight, so it might've been a little surprising to see him wear so little. On his hip though, he wore his sword, sheathed in a half sheath. The end of the blade stuck out quite clearly. In his hand he carried his trident, and strode across with it with the air of one who knew he'd survive this battle. His face bore a half smile.

John started his walk out as soon as Jasper met the group, wearing his beige robes. Underneath he wore a thing armor of steel, but the robes were fluid enough to hide his armor. He carried his staff, like always, and had no other visable weapons.

Jasper started to re-ajust his arm bracer. "Hows the head Fen? He asked, as he arrived next to Fen. John walked over more to Faolin and Balthazaar, muttering something along the lines of how nice it was to meet Lazarus again.

"Not bad, luckily I avoided the wine for the most part. Wouldn't want to be going to this big bad battle with a hangover, now would I?" It was clear from his comments that Fenrir wasn't taking the concept of the battle very seriously. This was both because he had never seen a battle of anything near this size, and because he was feeling quite invincible at the moment for obvious reasons.

Jasper smiled in return. "Something about this battle doesn't feel right though, so the goodbye to the missus might've been a bit more serious than I'd meant it to be." he replied.

Shane perked up immediately when he saw his friend. "No way; any bad guy comes near me and he'll become a dead guy pretty soon." Shane said with a practised twirl of his trident.

He saw Jasper and John come over then. "My lord." Shane said with an incline of the head in respect to John's title. He recognised the two, especially John from the tournament, but had seldom spoken with either of them. He had a vague dislike for John but held little in the way of actual ill feelings toward the man and, as for Jasper, he knew his name, he knew he hung around the King a lot, he knew the man had attended Fen's wedding and very recently now knows the man has a 'missus'.

"She was around. I tend to keep my personal life quiet as much as I can, although she has been around." Jasper wasn't lying either. While he had sat near the King, once the wedding was mostly over, he had danced with his wife, shortly before they disappeared together. "You might've seen me dance with someone I pulled from the crowd, shortly before disappearing. That was her."

John raised his hand slightly after Shanes show of respect. "This sign of respect thing is something I won't get used to, that's for sure, but you owe me no such respect, demi-god." He smiled. "Perhaps it is I who should be inclining my head in respect to you." He said, bowing slightly theatrically. While he didn't smell like alcohol, it was obvious it was still suffering some effects of his drinking last night.

Rend was unable to attend to the meetings of the other Lords. He was in fact a Lord but he did not think of himself as such. After all he was a brawler by nature, a kill first and continue maiming later, kind of Ork. He started his climb to the top as a warrior and as far as he was concern this was still the case, nothing had changed for him, at least nothing he considered important.

His gift was given to him and his people at a terrible price, but as far as he was concerned this was an easy price to pay. Now he had come to the aid of his King and his men were the toughest he had, despite being only seventy-five hundred in number. Rend sat with his men at camp, most of them still with their oversized armor strapped to their oversized bodies.

Rend had personally set up a large grill, heated by a fire stoked with firewood the Orks had brought with them on supply wagons. They had meat with them from animals of all kinds as their diet was often very unsurprising. War time for the Orks was something they appreciated, the fear of death would be nothing without enjoying life and all its aspects, even bringing death to others. The only thing Rend did not allow his men to do was drink, although he let the occasional mead slide, as he understood the need for some to let loose a little bit.

Songs of heros of old were sung in the Orkish quarter of camp, they were uplifting as they were loud with a large cheer at the end of the song as no instruments were brought for battle only the war drums.

Seeing that Fenrir and Shane had finished their small interaction with Jasper, Faolin broke off from his own little exchange and excused the boys from further speech as be took both of them by the shoulder and led them away from the group.

When they were a ways off Faolins eyes hardened and he regarded both boys seriously, taking a moment to look both in the eyes before he spoke; All joking aside boys, this isnt going to be a fun day out, or even like any other battle youve ever seen. Dont think for a second that your dads will save you, or that youre invincible because of your blood or your power. This is war, even the strong die.

Fenrir, your inability to kill hasnt been too much of a problem up until now, but leaving the enemy alive when there is thousands other left is dangerous. Make sure you at least disable the enemy entirely, if they can move then theyre still a danger.

Shane, youre a dangerous mage, and the enemy will spot this very quickly and target you. Dont even attempt to take on any of the Fallen alone, the Threllos are here to try to counter them, and the others like John or Balthazaar are strong enough to mean the difference between life and death for someone as un-familiar with battle as you.

Now, dont get me wrong, neither of you are weak. You are far passed the point now where I must coddle you through fighting, in some aspects you are both just as strong as I am in fact, but Im just making sure that you know your own limits, and also to never underestimate your opponent. Even Balthazaar could die in this battle if he doesnt watch himself, though he knows better than to drop his guard of course, but the danger remains.

As a last note; Stick close to each other, watch each others backs. Fenrir is likely to be squashed by any of the Fallen mages, so youll need to defend him there Shane, and if a good melee fighter gets near Shane then I fear that his trident will be of little use, so Fenrir make sure your sword is swift enough to cover him. You two make a dangerous combination by any standards, dont think yourself above simple teamwork.

With a nod Faolin turned his back to the boys, so that he was facing the other. Grinning as the seriousness washed off of his face and was replaced by the usual roguish expression; Right boys, lets got win a war!

Faolin teleported himself, Fenrir, Ryuk and Shane to the campsite and left the others to do so for themselves. Balthazaar, Achilles and Lao vanished without a moments hesitation, leaving Jasper and John as the last in the courtyard.

-

Fen had heard rumours about the size of the Sardonian campsite, but he hadnt been prepared for it at all. The sudden change in scenery only added to his shock and amazement.

The first thing he noticed was the smells, just the variety of them alone was enough to shudder his senses, but the intensity of them drove his nose up the wall. The heavy smell of iron was mixed heavily with the musk of sweat and other body odours, then there was the smell of the nearby fires roasting rabbit and boar, cow and mutton, meats of all kind added to the harsh air a more earthly taint.

Next Fenrir noticed the sheer size of the area he was in, and his wonderment at the full size of this encampment. Faolin had seemingly teleported them into one of the main areas of the camp, for Fenrir saw several House symbols and arms he recognized though could not name the Lords they belonged to. He stood in small clearing with his three companions, in a sea of bustling flesh and shining steel as men ran around getting prepared for battle, or sat in circles talking and eating, or alone at their tents steadying themselves for battle. He couldnt begin to count the number of tents he could see, it was easily in the hundreds and he was pretty sure that each tent would easily hold a few men and their equipment.
Faolin moved forward without a word, breaking Fen from his daze. Fen tried not to think about the amazingly large campsite around him as he followed Faolin. He was unsure where he was going, but hey Faolin knew best.

-

Faolin led the boys around the camp, reporting with this Lord and that Lord and informing them that the Kings men had now arrived in the rough numbers of five thousand elite soliders, and all was ready on their end and such. It was all official business and he handled it with a serious demeanour, not giving the boys a chance to catch their breaths never mind talk at any great length.

When his arrival business was all done Faolin led the boys to the tent of Sir Tillion, to inform the old Knight that all was prepared for the pre-war meeting. The Knight smiled in thanks and then bid Faolin a due as he rushed off to get things prepared.

Every leading member of the Sardonian army would receive a summons to be at the gates of Unuketh within the next three hours, or the meeting would be held without them. Faolin and the boys made their way they early, so that they were the first to arrive and as such the first that would be received at the gates, though they would not enter the city until everyone was ready.

(Everyone bar Brunnex and Tourivil has just been sent a letter telling them to be at Unukeths gates. If take too long to respond to this post, the meeting will go on without you, but I will make sure it is a reasonable time I give you to reply so that someone doesn't get screwed over.)

Shane had expected it to be bigger. Then again he was only seeing a small portion of the whole camp and he didn't think everyone had arrived yet though, in all honesty, Shane wasn't quite sure who was coming or even where they were. He'd been told there was a battle against those masked guys and that was really about it. In fact the summons was so sudden if he hadn't had demigod constitution he doubted he would have recovered in time.

Shane followed quietly not much in the mood for word any more. He was in quiet observation mode conserving energy for the battle ahead. The way Faolin had spoken this would be his biggest challenge yet and he had to be totally focussed.

Rend bit into a piece of horsemeat. It was not the kind of meat that Orks usually ate but Rend used the tough and thick muscle on the animal to simulate the flesh of some of the more humanoid races. He didnt want to upset those around him by roasting humanoid flesh, even though he craved it occasionally but he had a feeling in the upcoming struggle he would have lots to eat, despite heavy armor and puny weapons.

He then was handed a letter and he instantly recognized whom it was from. He opened it and read as fast as his limited reading skills allowed.

Unuketh eh? the large Ork spoke to himself.

He then picked up his large two-sided axe that he had named Gorehowl for its tendency to induce horrible scenes of gore to the howls of perhaps more than one victim at a time. Rend then strapped on the rest of his armor, custom made by his blacksmiths in the Orkish capital. The first layer of defense was made of large sheets of heavy chainmail; he had six layers of chainmail, suffocated by a six-inch thick breastplate of charred-looking metal. His shoulders were originally made flat with belts of metal, but as he requested large jutting spikes were added later pointing in random directions. His underarms were the only place not entirely protected by thick metal, here his chainmail was augmented by several more layers of interlocking chainmail, a favorite of the Orkish Lord. The random nature of the chainmail once shuffled in the movement of battle had saved his life on more than one occasion. An arrow can become twisted and unusable the blink of an eye, a sword can become tangled and a spear is even worse if leverage can be stolen from the attacker. Rend then placed on his helm made from the same black-metal as his armor. It was a large helm with an unusual style, on the bottom half there was a metal jaw made to hang under the top jaw also made from metal and built into the helm. This look made the wearer look as if he had an under bite, but this was by request of Rend, as if a latch on the back of the helm was unhinged it would open the jaws making way for metal shaped teeth in the helmet and also his own jagged and broken mouthful of sharp teeth. The top of the helm is fitted with large horns, taken from a large elk-like creature and sharpened on the top to make Rend look even larger than he already is.

Letz go Rend shouted to his second in command Rawkul dressed in more humble armor but none the less still in the rugged but effective style unique to the Orks.

The two Orks made their way to the gates of Unuketh, as requested.

Faolin, Fenrir, and Shane had arrived only a handful of minutes before Achilles sauntered up to the gate in his usual leather ensemble, his sword hanging by his hip not even in a sheath. He seemed unbothered by the loose ground he walked on, the sand buffeting gently against his face, and even the harsh sun above his head. He approached without his usual smug face, dipping his head as he came within speaking distance he came to a standstill; "Faolin, Fenrir, Shane."

"Greetings Achilles, fine day for some strategy, eh?" Faolin said with a grin, holding his arms out as if to further show the scorching heat of this desert sun. Faolin wore light clothing of light blue, yet he still looked absolutely frazzled because of the heat, not to mention the fact that a huge broadsword hung across his back which added a little bit of strain even on his massive body.

"Any day is a fine day for strategy." Achilles replied curtly, then with a sigh he added; "Though I don't look forward to strategizing amongst Lords once more. I thought I had escaped that fate, but no it seems Lazarus wasn't fond of that idea one bit, damn God throwing his weight about."

"Well, being the chosen champion of Lazarus is quite the honor, you should be a little bit happier, no?" Faolin said with a laugh, knowing full well that Achilles couldn't care less about Lazarus's opinion of him, or anyone else's for that matter.

"Bah, if this battle had not been so promising I would have stayed back home even if it were Lazarus that asked me. This champion stuff is folly at any rate, one warrior to stand as the symbol of a God's backing truly makes little sense, even if the warrior is as grand as myself." Achilles grunted, showing his disgust for his new job title. He didn't like the idea one bit, and hadn't even agreed to it really.

"Well, learning from the mistakes of their forebears the Three seem to have elected to take a more laid back position in mortal affairs. Whilst, at the same time this country is the home to their greatest friends and allies, so they can't simply leave us hanging. So, as a compromise they agree amongst themselves to chose one paragon of justice each, one whom can aid the mortal world in their name. Frankly I think it's a good idea, if it means you can fight in mortal affairs without me having to fear that Lazarus is going to be pissed about it, then I'm happy with it."

Achilles sighed and shrugged; "Whatever, I just don't much like the idea of my handiwork being accredited to that c**t Lazarus, praise be." The last comment was clearly sarcastic, but considering Lazarus and Achilles had known each other for quite a few centuries it was doubtful that Lazarus would take any offence, even if offence was meant.

"Battle for the sake of glory's sake, oh how I wish things were that simple for us mortals, eh boys?" Faolin said with a small grin towards Fenrir and Shane, who had thus far been silent in the little exchange.

"If it were only for glory's sake, I wouldn't be here, I don't think..." Fenrir replied uncertainly. He was pretty sure that if he wasn't the child of about eighty different prophecies then he wouldn't be living this sort of live, pretty sure...

"Slaughter for slaughter's sake is madness, and leads only down the path of corruption." Lao said as he appeared from nowhere, in his standard robes with his bo staff in his hands and his katana on his hip. He had his eyes closed and stood perfectly straight, seemingly half-meditating even though he had added to the conversation.

"Bah, don't know what's good for you, kid." Achilles grunted. Although Lao was far older than being a 'kid', everyone was a kid when you were as old as Achilles was. You just built up the habit of referring to your youngers by certain things during life, and when everyone is your younger it becomes even more of a habit since you're saying those things a lot more than normal people.

"Fighting keeps the body strong, and helps cull the weak of the population." Ryuk added in gruffly, standing well away from the group with his arms crossed and his eyes looking around for any sign of a threat to his master.

"The weak should be protected, not 'culled' like common farm animals." Lao said, opening his eyes long enough to shoot a glare at Ryuk then re-closing them as his expression hardened somewhat. It was clear Ryuk's comment had broken his calm state of mind.

"Weakness is an arbitrary term, to someone like Balthazaar we're all weak." Faolin stated with a nod of his head, and a growing smile at the quickly escalating battle of morals. It was an odd crowd to be gathered, even odder than this trade-off of morality had erupted amongst them.

"You called hunny?" Balthazaar announced at the exact same moment as he, literally, popped into existence in the space between Faolin and the two demi-gods, his arms spread wide as if he were posing for some unseeable pap. The demon still held the form of a middle aged Elf of average appearance, but unlike his usual appearance he wore light blue robes covered entirely in stars, pentagrams and other symbols of magical note, including some intricate glyphs. He bore no weapon, but no being alive pushed Balthazaar far enough that he would need one.

"I was wondering when you'd arrive, jester." Achilles said with a grin.

"Jester? Forgotten my name, silly? I'm hurt, really I am!" Balthazaar said as he skipped over to Achilles and bonked him on the head with a stick, that suddenly appeared in his hand for just that purpose. Achilles received the blow without care, or even a flinch.

"Well, it seems that the Old-Guard is really gathering together again." Faolin said as he looked around at all the faces; "I'm sure Brun, Strange and Lazarus are all itching to shed their immortal skins and come and join us once more, just like the good old times."

"Thankfully, I had no true part in 'the old times'." Lao said, not unkindly but with true relief that he hadn't been in the savage wars of the past.

"True, this 'Old-Guard' of ours has some new faces I suppose, as well as having lost a few. Speaking of missing faces, where is that assassin-turned-Lord John? And Jasper for that matter, I hope those two aren't causing trouble..." Faolin said, narrowing his eyes towards the huge encampment, vainly hoping that he might catch a glimpse of either man's approach.

Jasper, having teleported to the encampment for the first time, took some time to explore. He hadn't gotten far when he was given the letter. He had little else to do, so decided to wonder off to the gates, mostly in the hope someone was there already.

When John arrived, he did so in the Assassins encampment, where a cheer could be heard. While they had been mainly quiet for most of the time there, it didn't take long for elven and human bard songs to be played one after the other. Although they numbered little, the music was loud and happy, and any man or woman who wished to join in were welcome. After the first song, whiich he himself played, John recieved the message, and simply popped next to the gates. It had been a very long time since he was near this spot. One would notice though, that he arrived furthest from where Jasper would join the group.

"Is this all of us?" John asked, wondering who else was to come. He knew that guy Leaf could possibly join them, but other than Tourivil and Brunnex, he didn't think anyone else would be there. Bar the Orc and Toun of course.

"Far from it." Achilles said with a sigh.

"Hello Lord Sicarius, no we'll be waiting on the other Lords, high ranking Knights and other such leaders before we are received by Duke Tourivil." Faolin filled John in with a smile, his fears being extinguished by the man's appearance. Things might have gotten hairy if he and Jasper had started trouble...

"Too old? Older Lords are usually the better ones, they're less headstrong." Faolin said in reply to John's comment about his age.

"It is the old who start wars, whilst the young die in them." Lao said sagely, his eyes still closed and his face once more calm.

John laughed, as if getting a private joke. " I wouldn't say that Lao, or else the young demi gods will be first ones here to die." He stopped himself somewhat quickly afer that. "But, these boys have a lot more power than most men here can ever get, so maybe it is the old who will be the ones to die." His mood was lighthearted but there was an underlining seriousness.

"It's the weak that die in battle, not the young." Ryuk commented dryly, as if Lao's comment were stupid.

"The weak have no place on the battlefield, they merely separate the strong long enough for cowards to run and hide, be it behind long-winded spells or high castle walls." Achilles said somewhat angrily, he truly did not like weaklings getting in his way.

"You cannot deny that even the weak will fight with honor though? Even if it means their deaths allow for the strong to live." Jasper replied.

"The people from Xing fought with honor, look where honor gets you on the battlefield." Achilles said with a flippant laugh and flick of his head.

"The fate of my peoples amusing, is it?" Lao said, not only opening his eyes but squaring himself towards Achilles and lifting his bo staff off of the ground.

"Down boy, I was killing men twice your stre-"

"Stop it you two!" Faolin yelled, stepping between the two quarreling men; "We're all allies here, let's keep it that way."

Lao took a deep breath and then nodded; "Very well."

Achilles scoffed and turned away; "Yeah, whatever."

Faolin sighed heavily, shaking his head as he returned to his spot beside Fenrir and Shane.

It was just then that Uhbo walked out from the encampment as natural as ever. If it wasn't for the fact Shane knew him he would have thought him a passer by or member of the threllosian army.

"Uhbo!" Shane exclaimed. "Where have you been? What are you doing here? What's going on?" Shane rapidly asked the threllos whom had been absent for quite a while and without notice.

Uhbo smiled kindly and drew a silver flask from his tattered shirt. Where exactly it had been held was not evident. "Hello again, Shane, I apologise for leaving without goodbye but an old friend was in need of aide."

He unscrewed the cap and held the flask out at arms length before tipping it to the side. A spot of crystal clear water poured out and onto the ground. However instead of drying into the sand it lay flat nd began to congeal into solid form. Soon it was changing colour too as a pair of silver boots started to appear. These boots were not empty but filled with black feet. Then there were similarly armoured legs as the water continued to flow well past it's spatial presence. At this point one would notice that Uhbo was gone and the flask was floating well above where Uhbo had held it as if expecting a much larger creature. It was right for very soon a fully armoured sheer black Ferrock stood in their presence (minus a helmet or helm). The Ferrock wasn't overly big in himself but the man held a very commanding presence. In fact, despite his sheer black colouring, he seemed to gleam slightly as if he had been applied an extra coat of varnish.

The flask popped out of existence above the ferrock and he gazed at the motley crew. Shane noted, with disdain, that the ferrock's eyes were completely normal if as colourless as the rest of his body (it's just his pupils that are black before people misunderstand me).

"I am Shilack and I come as representative to Brun. Is this is the War Council for the coming battle?"
