Hey I was just wondering, if you don't believe in god what do you do around Christmas time when Christians all around you are busy celebrating Christmas
Do you just go with the flow and put up lights and all of those crap
Or you celebrate it regardless of it meaning because it is a time to enjoy yourself and be happy and spend time with; family, friends etc
Well for me , I don't give a crap about the meaning of Christmas, I. Just wanna relax and eat and receive gifts
And have a good time with the ppl I like
Oh BTW can you guys restrain yourself from posting negative comments and negative ratings
If you don't like thus thread just leave and don't be a troll
Cuz nobody likes trolls.
Have a merry Christmas everyone

To be completely honest I hate Christmas. I have alot of bad memories about Christmas and associate alot of unresolved issues with the holidays. I dunno. Its just a very sad time for me. My wife loves it and tries to get me to embrace it so I try to go along with it. Its still hard for me but whatever. Guess I just need to man the hell up maybe.

Edited cause my life is one long auto correct fail

Or, you know, agnostic.
A realist would surely belive that since no evidence exists of God's existence, and we have no means of knowing otherwise, God therefore shouldn't exist.

Don't atheists all celebrate Christmas anyway?

In their celebrations most Christians barely acknowledge that religion is a part of it, just a service or 2 at church and then off to celebrate the commercialized non-religious aspects of Christmas for a couple weeks, culminating in a 2 days of decidedly secular celebrating of the holiday.

Sooooo. Since Christians essentially celebrate it as a secular holiday, there's little reason for others in the community to abstain based on religious reasons.

When I was younger Christmas was a good chance for my family to argue.

Now I'm older, I don't celebrate it at all.

I used to make sure I went home for Christmas when I lived nearby but like I say, it was just a time when we were forced to spend too much time together and try to pretend to forget about any issues we had at that time (which never lasted after the first few glasses of wine).

I've moved to China since and they don't celebrate Christmas here. I buy my girlfriend a little gift- go to work, come home and eat Chinese food. It's quite refreshing not to have shitty cheesy Christmas music everywhere and adverts that more or less say "BUY THIS OR YOUR FAMILY WON'T LOVE YOU".

I much prefer to go home when I go home and see my family when I actually want to see them. I don't really buy anyone Christmas gifts, I just buy them something decent before I come home for the summer.

I celebrate my family. My mother celebrates her beliefs. The holiday season isn't exactly the best time to bring up our religious differences, so instead I just choose to see things from a different perspective. If family weren't a large part of my life then I probably would not do much beyond going to work.

I would also add that I abhor the rampant consumerism surrounding this holiday. It's really pathetic that middle aged adults will fight each other over a new electronic toy to the point where people end up dead.

LAWL.
What do you expect of atheists who are after all the expression of sensate 'culture'?
Materialistic, progress-minded, and so on and so forth.

Welcome to the incipient Dark Ages.

morrisberman.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/pitirim-sorokin_28.html

Sorokin distinguished between what he called Ideational cultures and Sensate cultures. The former, he wrote, are spiritual in nature, focusing on the inner life of human beings. The latter, on the other handof which the West for the last five hundred years is a classic exampleare preoccupied with the material modification of the external world by means of science and technology, and are the opposite of the Ideational ones. The Sensate culture of the last five centuries, he claimed, is now in crisis; in its dying phase.

I have a second hand Samsung Blackjack. I don't know how old it is honestly.

won't miss the latest CoD

The only new game I've bought this year is GTA V. I haven't bought CoD in the past two years.

and will be getting the next console the moment it's released.

Actually can't afford one, so it will be at least next year before I have one. Can't say I'm anxious to get either of them since both have reported launch issues.

I wish it worked that way for me. I think last year was the first time in almost 8 years that I had Christmas day off. I work in security, so that's kinda the way things go. 24/7/365 an' all that.

this year, unlike the previous 10, i won't work so i guess i'll be spending some time with the family for a change ...

not that i ever minded working on christmas and new year's eve, it just happened that this year someone asked me for a 2 day swap i didn't want to accept so i asked for those 2 days in return and, to my surprise, they accepted ...

my missus is thrilled (way more than i am tbh) so i'll just have to go with the flow

Religion plays no part in my Xmas. I don't follow any religion. I'm a evolution man myself. I don't like being labeled a atheist though. Everyone has their own beliefs/thoughts on life.

I do not know why people are voting this down perhaps they do not like Christmas, or perhaps it is Atheists that they do not like. Or perhaps they do not like you or how you put up the post. Maybe because they felt it was too early, or maybe just because. Or some people probably misunderstand the question and think you are trying to start something.

I do think it is a good question. There are plenty of people who do celebrate Christmas but do not celebrate the Christian Religious part and it is interesting to see why people may do what they do with it.

I do not celebrate the religious part of it but I do celebrate Christmas. For me it is the family traditions and cultural traditions. I celebrate with a lot of German traditions because my Great Grandmother and Grandmother were German from Germany. So the cookies and Stollen (pronounced with a scht sound)is a big part of it along with other things. Doing things as a family and things like that. We had four generations in the kitchen at the same time making Stollen together.

I like the cold and snow anyways. Christmas is like a celebration of light in the darkness. I more celebrate the magic of Christmas, and I guess magic and mystical creatures. Such as Dwarves, fawns, gnomes elves, and other things.

I do not like the commercialism of it though. There is too much on fake happiness and not enough on the actual special things. And the fake and bad stuff usually tends to ruin the good things.
The best Christmas present I ever got or gave was a banana peel.
