Gunfire isn't uncommon in my part of the San Francisco Bay area. I have never been woken up by gunfire. I sleep through it.

Explosions are quite rare but I have been woken up by one. It wasn't a holiday either.

As for the news concerning gunfire...they only report it if it involves innocent bystanders being injured or killed. We don't care if the wannabe gangsta's kill each other off.

Same thing here - in the New York Post - they have like a crime section, listing the major crimes in sections by borough - you'll see so and so shot by so and so, the victim had a long crime record including bla bla bla, it's great... they let u know the guy got shot, but subtly tell you he's scum and it's okay.

Not exactly typical here. Just curious if it's something any of you get in your neck of the woods.

Grew up practically sleeping in the bath tub because of strays. Not exactly the best part of town, clearly. These days, well, it's deer season and I'm out in the country. My neighbor has deer land, my next door neighbor has a shooting range in his yard (I do, too) but we're nice enough not to blast off early or late as hell in the morning/night. The deer hunters on the other hand, early morning.

Its pretty common for me actuall. Usually on weekends, my neighbor (who is an ex cop)... does target shooting at around 10:30 in the morning. The friggin guy wakes me every time.

The only time I ever use a gun is for hunting. Other wise, I barely use one.

Ahh the Joys of county living! No code enforcement, no nosy ass neighbors trying to tell you what you can and can't do in your own yard. No cops except the county sheriff man do I miss it!

And why the hell you complaining about getting woke up at 10:30? Get your ass out of the bed and you will find this problem solved

Hell, I'd love to have a go with one of those. He also has a few other awesome firearms. Sten gun, L1A1 and most variants of the Lee Enfield .303 except the jungle carbine. Very cool guy, has a lot of history in his armoury / display cases.

As far as Brit stuff goes, I've got a Lanchester, Sten, Enfield SMLE and No4, couple of Webleys, L1A1, L2A3, a Bren, Lewis gun and a few others.

Apart from the .303 Rifles, they're all deactivated though, couldn't be bothered to jump through the hoops to licence the rest, even though I'd probably technically be able to.

Few names there I've heard him mention before, his are all active we have taken a couple of his old .303's out deer and pig shooting, they still work damn fine. He keeps saying we can take the fully automatic ones out to the farm but it never happens, haha. I guess they're too valuable to him to be mucking around with, fair enough though. Nice collection you've got there though, very cool.

I go to school in Baltimore, which is affectionately known as Harm City. I have about a 12 block walk from the train station to school. I hear gunfire often. I also see drug dealers, people shooting heroine, cars running stoplights going the wrong way down a one way street and gangs of thugs riding dirt bikes and four wheelers on the sidewalk.

What school do you go to?

It's a toss up really: if I'd woken up that early to Bjork, I'd probably have been more irritated.

I have my doubts about this, seems very odd indeed. I don't know a single person that owns a gun, and to all my friends that I've asked they don't believe this.

But I'd also like to point out that this says 30.31 firearms per 100 people, and that does not mean that one third of the people own guns. Those that own a gun are likely to own more than one.

And yet the numbers would suggest way more guns than I would even possible in this country, there are a few hunting rifles, and that's it. Something you'd only see in a shooting range or when hunting. Which mind you, some people could be, but not in those numbers.

^ He wasn't being a smart-arse. What he said was actually quite reasonable. It's a very small country with a small population.

"30 guns for every 100 people" doesn't say that 1/3 of people own guns. Just that there are enough guns for 1/3 of the population to own them.

"The estimated rate of private gun ownership (both licit and illicit) in the United States is 101.053 firearms per 100 people"

I don't think that means there are 101.053 people for every 100 people.

Right now I'm not arguing that. I understand what he has said and what Offline posted. I meant his standpoint of "what is a gun?" Making out like Iceland is gun free. I just thought it was an odd thing to say. They do have an incredibly low rate of gun crime even with their current figures of gun ownership. Anyhow none of this matters.

What we should be talking about is Thorium-based Nuclear power! Which China is in the process of building, maybe have even finished.
