As it stands however we KNOW we can't get them there safely without developing a way to protect them from the radiation in space.

And a trip won't happen until that problem's been resolved. Simples.

That's really just the tip of the iceberg as far as the unresolved problems go, though (despite what they claim on the Mars One website).

For the record, I would definitely pay a reasonable pay-per-view fee just to watch one of the skinny Dutch vegans go batshit-insane and blow an airlock, killing everyone on the expedition, when it becomes evident that they're going to have to live the rest of their lives in a space the size of a couple of Porta Potties strapped together, AND BAS WON'T STOP FARTING!!!!!

I cant see this happening, they are just going make money off the show then settle with winners.

If it were real, can you imagibe the flight going there? My bets someone flips out well before they reach the destination.

How many people flipped out on Magelhaes' voyage?

Magalhães.

Or Magellan, as normal people call him.

because he was american, right?

Yes, it was moronic of him to say "normal people".

Obviously historically people's names were translated/changed for teaching and reference.
Christopher Columbus was actually Cristoforo Colombo, not Columbus or Cristóbal Colón or Cristóvão Colombo.

The Spanish call Magalhães Magallanes.

either way, doesn't really upset me, but "Magelhaes" is just wrong, that's all.

apart from that, Magalhães, Magallanes, Magellan, it's all good.

Sorry, meant to say 'people with functional economies'.

Either that, or your sarcasm filter's broken.

Simple solution. Just get some Welsh people to go. They're used to living in a desolate wasteland, and even dying on a dead rock being pounded by cosmic radiation is better than a lifetime in Rhyl.

It's been a while since I last checked the site, but I believe they intend to be fairly connected to earth. Internet access and all.

I still wouldn't go. I doubt they'd allow anyone to browse certain lewd content privately. I don't want the whole of mission control viewing a big screen displaying what I'm jacking it to on mars.

Not to mention you'd probably have to threaten to endanger the mission or take someone hostage, lest they cut you off the second you start viewing more taboo material.

It's going to be a hard life up there. No pun intended.

A 'space fap' could be interesting, although if it gets out of had (pun definatly intended) you
would end up with some pretty cranky (and sticky) space buddies.

There's always LAN games.

I'd hate to be the poor bastard caught using an aimbot, though. That dude would NOT be popular.
