A massive 2-mile wide (3km) torndao ravaged the city of Moore in Oklahoma. 90 people lost their lives including 20 kids who were in a class when the tornado levelled their schools.

I know schools should serve as shelters but this is unacceptable! They should have been taken to storm bunkers and classes should have been suspended!!! This is a crime of neglect. They had early warning, watch these videos. I have friend living 100 miles away from Moore!!!!

Let's all pray for the families of the kids who lost their lives in that tornado.

There is no public storm shelters in the city of Moore. This is not the first time, the city has been hit by a deadly tornado. They were hit by a F5 back in 1999 and 36 were killed.

The kids were kept at school to try protect them as when the warnings went out school was about to let out for the day...
Most of the children were moved to shelter in a nearby church.

This tragedy is heartbreaking and I have struggled to watch/read any of the news having a child the same age as those that lost their lives.

Whenever people live in areas that are prone to this occurrence (or other natural disasters) eg Tornado Alley, no matter what steps we take there will at times be loss of life. I know there is no comfort in that for the affected families but sadly as long as we continue to reside side by side with mother nature like this, these things will continue to happen.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy and may all those that lost their lives Rest In Peace.

I saw an old resident being interviewed on the news & she mentioned she'd lost her dog. Further into the interview the reporter looked down & saw the dog stuck under rubble just behind her.

You would've thought that a place (america) that gets alot of tornado's/hurricanes yearly would atleast provide bunkers incase of emergencies like this and have sufficient procedures in place........But no........... They are too busy wasting money and sending troops to "defend*" iraq/afghanistan.

Give me an earthquake any day over a tornado.

The children and families need help...don't forget the pets. My money is going to the local spca.

^ earthquakes can kill so many more people.

There was an earthquake in China that killed 261 people (a few days after the Boston bombings so it might not have gotten too much attention in the media).

Earthquakes can't be predicted and can be really devastating.

Don't get me wrong, tornadoes can be awful too (you only need to look at this one) but at least you can see them coming to some extent.

I'm surprised that these folk didn't have shelters and such. I simply wouldn't choose to live in a place that was prone to natural disasters, it's madness not to have precautions put in place.

I feel terrible for all those affected though, you can't get over something like that.

The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. As opposed to an estimated 2000 tornadoes.

So yes, the very worst earthquakes are worse than a tornado. But it's a hard thing to compare since most tornadoes are more dangerous than all but a tiny percent of earthquakes.

The only problem is that the government won't put up shelters etc because the place in question doesn't get bombarded with tornadoes constantly which is a shame.

But RIP.

pictures didn't do it justice. I was nasty man. My stepdad travels the countries building chick filets for a major construction company. & they had an outreach program where they were paying people to go over there & rebuild what we could. I gave em 4 weekends of my time, @ 12 hrs a day, along with hundreds of others, & needless to say we didn't even put a small knick in everything that needs to be done. Same with New Orleans & Katrina. Some places never will be the same after devastation like that.

They said that the energy from this tornado was 8 to 600 times more powerful than the hiroshima bomb, and the last f5 that hit them had thehighest recorded wind speed ever recorded at 302mph. Craziness!
