Not so much anymore, but I did BJJ, Muay Thai and a little bit of Krav Maga.

...If you ever want something that works in a real scenario, go with Krav Maga. 1000 ways to kill a man with his own fist

I mean, BJJ and Muay Thai are great as long as there's only one opponent. Not so good when you have 4 of his mates jumping in as soon as it goes to the ground.

When i was growing up, i practiced the art of beating up my uncle, yes he may have let me win but i still won

When i started primary school however me and my 2 older brothers later my younger brother got into karate, i still have all my certificates in a folder and my double brown stripe belt I'm not sure where my Gi is i believe it's in the loft.

My friend Kieran from across the road use to do Jiu Jitsu though and use to always be able to take me down which annoyed the hell of of me playing takedown bulldog so i then also went and started to learn Jiu Jitsu

Everyday after school (in our school hall) we use to start our Karate lessons with our sensei Glen who i'm still in contact with today -.- i use to love it and everytime id get a new badge be proud / run to my mum to stitch it into my Gi Owe and when we'd go to competitions for our new belts and id nail the routine i still remember how happy i use to be just seeing my parents / family there cheering me on.

I got into football in year 7/8 and my martial arts slowly died out until i was in year 10 when i got back into things joining a local gym and started boxing, that's also when i jumped into Mau Thai, my Karate was a big help with this as i already knew how to position my body to do many of the kicks and stances.

When i left school at the end of year 11 though i went to college and met a girl and yeah my rebel days were over -.- that lasted 2 years after that i just got use to do little and also started drinking, not like when i was a kid with friends drinking cheap WKD just i use to enjoy a pint of 3 every other day, and again my martial arts died away.

Mid last year though i started to bulk myself up a bit and well still am in the process i use to be "average" then i lost quite a bit of weight so i thought f**k it time to bulk up and that's where i am right now, i also met a guy called Eduardo in my local gym who is crazy! he don't speak that much English but he makes up for it in his ground game and yeah he taught me basics of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, my striking is good now i bulked myself up substantially from when i was younger but now my ground game lacks pretty bad i use to love Jiu Jitsu it just sucks i'm nowhere near the level i use to be even when i was younger.

I'm still young however so have plenty of training to do! When i reach my desired weight I'm hoping Eduardo has the time to go into more depth for me as i really want to work on my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu him of course!

I'm only 20 also and for my 21st I'm going Vegas with a good friend of mine and i think my brother is coming too because he really wants to see more of the US than FL -.- Im spending a week in Vegas i think, i was thinking can you really do a week long trip to Vegas? if not i got a friend who lives in AZ who i was going to take a road trip to meet up and have some fun

I also want to get a sleeve done on my right arm I've always wanted a sleeve and my dad loves tattoos too, he's got an eagle on his chest and i think he wants a bit more added too it and he wants something done in memory of my nan (his mum) who recently passed away so we're hoping to meet up after my Vegas trip in LA and maybe get some tattoo done at HVT, he wants a portrait i think so he's hoping to get one done by Kat and sent and email/ made an appointment about 2 months ago there was a HUGE waiting list, and yeah i'm probably going to treat myself to a full sleeve depending on how many sessions it will take my dad said he'd pay even know i got plenty of $$$ as a birthday gift so i thought meh..

Anyway yeah so by the time I'm 21 (early next year) i hope to be my desired weight and going to treat myself to an awesome Vegas/LA trip and a tattoo then it's back to training for me -.-

I've only ever had 3 fights though I've always sparred with my brothers and friends but only ever actually had 3 fights so i probably suck and never had a fight since bulking up -.- but it's still funny... i remember the first time i put my little brother in an arm bar and sore him tap like a little bitch

Me personally I'm open to most martial arts although I'm not as agile as i use to be -.- i look forward to improving every lesson and maybe start fighting at 22 it's just my ground game that lacks! even know i know what i'm doing -.-

PS. Yes an Overeem fan even after his over cocky beatdown he received I just hope after bulking up i can keep my stamina i do work on my cardio more than ever now even while trying to bulk up, i prefer to bulk up slower but keep my cardio at a decent level, reason why i walk/job with my dog every morning at 5/6 depending on the time of year for sunrise since she was a puppy for a minimum of 10km - the walk/job there and back.

This might not be the place to ask questions.

But, I'm going to ask questions anyway.

If you're someone who has never really trained any fighting before, doesn't go to the gym but walks everywhere and is light built; how hard is it to learn a martial art?

I'm very well coordinated, I did dancing for quite a few years when I was younger. I have dicipline too, I got to grade 8 on a few instruments and am (was for about 10 years) used to practising daily. I am quite good at taking punches too, I've never thrown a punch (at least not in an actual fight) but have always walked away and have never been put on my arse. I also live in China, and they like martial arts and what not, right?

Basically I'm waiting for someone to tell me to go and try it. I'm scared I'll make a fool of myself. You ever have that dream where you go to hit someone but you get 0 strength behind the punch and it doesn't even affect them? I'm scared of that.

Do many people start training later than childhood? I'm only 25 but don't want to be with a bunch of 13 year olds.

EDIT: inb4 jokes about dancing and being too pussy to fight.

I'm 40 and started in October of last year.

A good club will accept people of all ages and will give you great tuition. Don't be afraid to go, trust me, you'll enjoy it.

Well, I'll give it a shot then since the Internet has told me to. A little bit of being punched in the face never hurt anyone!

I am afraid of going but that's pretty much what life is for imo, pushing yourself to do new things.

Cheers Captain Obvious. Hopefully this time next year I'll be doing back-flip-kicks in people's faces.

in tae-kwon-do, we do a lot of self defense, nothing really offensive, but i've learned how to handle 4 people at once. i am also a black belt and been in martial arts for almost 5 years now. i am only 16. i am also looking to get into hapkido. learn more about the body and how to take someone down from pressure points.
