Manual, i like it. But parking is a pain in the ARSE, let off the clutch just a little too much with the wheel turned and you have yourself a locked steering wheel / no ignition.

you can always use the handbrake to assist.

Learn how to drive, and you'll be fine.

Pardon me for being 17 and having only 100 miles driven in my whole life. Also, i'm not used to the stiff clutch in our car, the driving school car had a softer clutch.

Automatic gear boxes were made for retards who couldn't fathom how to use a manual box. That is why so few automatics are driven in the UK and visa versa in the USA

When driving in a larger US city and the freeway turns into a parking lot for miles and miles during rush hour moving along at 5mph if your lucky, you learn to appreciate an automatic transmission, I've seen many younger drivers burning up the clutch in rush hour. After driving a stick for twelve or more hours of the day working, It's nice getting into my Park Avenue Ultra and gliding home

you can always use the handbrake to assist.

if the steering feel locks like that, all you have to do is turn the feel slightly and it will start. i helped one lady in a parking lot because she had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her car. i got in, turned it a little, and it started. then i explained it to her. she must've felt like an idiot.

-.- I know that. I was only mentioning that some people tend to forget they can use the handbrake while parking in tricky places, so they don't have to just rely on the whole clutch/accelerator dynamic.

You are right, in some cases the handbrake is a good friend but anyway if you use it for every shit, the cables will collapse eventually...

Many times I've wondered who keeps handing out licenses. It really doesn't feel like they teach people how to drive properly at all over here, much less manual transmission.

In the U.S. they do not teach you how to drive manual in a drivers education course. Though there are a lot of people who get a driving license should not. They do not do enough testing and training. Plus well at least in Michigan it may be different in other states though once you are 18 you do not need to take a drivers education course you just need to pass the driving test. Which I feel is stupid because there should be more practice and more knowledge given because not all situations always come up all the time but it is good to know what to do in case something does.

Learned to drive in a manual, but over the years i've owned a few auto cars. My current car has a tiptronic gearbox (or at least I think thats what they're called..) where you can opt to drive fully auto, or semi-auto.

it's still lazy.... but then again....so am I.

I even heard that in some places you can actually get the licence through a highschool class, having your own teacher testing you.

Well having driven Manuals most of my adult life I can say one thing here. If you can't drive a 3 speed on the column then you can't drive.

Now after 2 knee surgeries I prefer a Automatic. But that doesn't mean I still don't love a good 5 speed in the mud in 4 wheel drive

Not exactly. Some schools offer it as a half year elective class at extra cost that will include class instruction, basic auto related topics like minor maintenance, simulator time and actual on the road time but you still have to get your permit and tests at the DMV(Dept of Motor Vehicles)

OT- I remember once I crushed a full McDonalds drink between my thighs when I pushed the clutch. not a good time

I now drive an auto with cup holders

Yes, I always pay extra to get the manual.

There's a joy in feeling and hearing the gear changes, done at the appropriate times of course. Any time I drive an automatic I feel like I'm driving slow, it has a weird feel to it. I'm not sure why they don't design automatics to change gears at the right time.
