I just ordered my first folding bike. It's not high end but I'm pretty pumped. Anyone else have one?

I also have a Scott built custom, and an old school FreeSpirit (it's so old it's called a "Women's Radical Rider").

Let's talk bikes, or complain about shitty drivers parking in our bike lanes.

If you aren't a cyclist, feel free to vent about how much you secretly hate us and our day glo/ spandex riding attire.

I don't secretly hate cyclists.

I do hate it when they ride in a big group on normal roads when it's not a race or anything. I lived in a rural part of England and it always happened around there. I like to think that cyclists would get annoyed at a huge group of people walking in the road and not moving for them.

Also, I don't like spandex. Why is it needed?

We can co-exist and share the roads. Bike runs (big groups on the road) are usually rare and we only ride on the roads when we have to since it's super dangerous.

Spandex is ridiculous but necessary. Swimmers shave their bodies for speed/less drag and cyclists wear spandex for the same reason.

I am a cyclist who is currently living in Manchester for university and I am slowly beginning to hate our 'kind'. Manchester seems to be full of these people that don't abide by the rules/laws of the road. One guy was cycling between pedestrians crossing and somebody pulled him off and had a go at him, to be honest I thought it was fair (Y)...

Yeah, I've seen that too, along with cyclists weaving in and out of traffic like they are invincible or just suicidal. If they want to die, I can't be bothered to care.

What gets me is when cars swerve into cyclists on purpose or honk for no reason at all.

I quite enjoy cycling to work and college when it's dry out. The cold doesn't bother me to much as I can just put a coat on. The. Worst thing is cold hands... That really does suck.
However when itit's raining I wish I was in a car, nice and dry

During the three days of summer we get here in England I'm constantly on my bike, even if it's just recreational rather than commuting

I hate cyclists!

They always bitch about motorists and how inconsiderate they are, when cyclists are just as inconsiderate to pedestrians!

The amount of cyclists i see happy to cycle on the pavement, or ignoring road signs/traffic lights, riding without helmets etc. Then they bitch when they get hurt!

We need tougher laws for cyclists!

I like to ride my cheap mongoose mountain bike on the farm I live on, but damn, cyclists are crazy on our roads. Gravel patches throwen in the middle of stretches of roads.. not to mention gravel drive ways running downhill onto tar (combined with torrential down-pours) = some kind of cycle skittler.

I cycle recreationally, have a Trek Domane road bike, and a custom Specialized framed XC bike. Used to be able to do 80-100 miles at a throw on the road, but since my back/legs have been getting worse, it's down to 40-50 tops these days.

I do think that bikes should have license plates, the same as cars though. Some cyclists are complete twats, the same as some car drivers, but at least with cars you can report them.

Good cyclists I have no problem with. Stick to the road laws and I'll happily share the road with you.

Bad cyclists, they're like bad motorcyclists but...worse.

sometimes the reason is as simple as saying "I'm here, be aware of that and don't do sudden moves" as most bikes don't have a rear view mirror.

and I'm used to be on both sides of this, driving and cycling, so I'm ok with it.

I can understand how annoying it would be for a driver who pays road tax to see cyclists getting in the way of what they paid for, but if every able bodied person cycled for short journeys then the country would be a much better place.

In the US, cyclists pay road taxes as well. It's called State tax and many of us have cars for transportation too.

Someone mentioned license plates for non-motorized bikes. I agree that would be a good move. Not every city, town or state is bike friendly. When cyclists here ride crazy, they can get tickets, point and fines just like you would if you were in a vehicle.

We don't pay "Road Tax" in the UK, we pay car tax, which is mainly to economically offset carbon emissions nowadays. The roads are paid for out of the nations general tax, if they were only paid for by drivers the road quality in this country would be absolutely shocking.
