To stick to the original topic a bit, I'm a Scotch man myself. If I'm out, I'll back a decent Scotch with whatever decent lager they have on tap. Drinking good Scotch all night gets pricy quick.
If I'm sticking to beer while I'm out, I'll usually go for a nice ale rather than a lager. The taste of Scotch doesn't mix well with ale.
I have been known to go a bit daft on Guinness occasionally. It's one of them where I get 10 pints in before it hits me, and when it does, I don't get the nice gradual build up of drunk, I go from 0-dancing on tables in the time it takes to stand up (and possibly fall down )
Ah, nice choice Cheap enough that it's ok to get blitzed to the point where you can't taste it anymore, but a nice enough flavour up until that point. Is it just me or is there a slight apple aftertaste? Bit weird for a Scotch, I thought, but that's definitely the aftertaste I get from it.
If I'm looking a bit more upmarket, I really like Johnnie Walker Blue. I highly recommend it if you have a bit of spare cash at some point. I've had a few bottles of Dewar's Signature, it was a little bit more expensive (I think) and the taste was obviously different, but it wasn't really my thing (cost me £500+ before I figured that one out ) . Don't get Blue Label if you're mixing though, the flavour's more than enough on its own for a fan of whisky.
Before i start, i pretty much have a cabinet full of whiskey in my basement, some for long day at work, some for special occasion, some just for f**k of it.
Guinness - Beer
Jameson - if im in mood for shots mostly, also long day at work.
Glenmorangie 10yr - first bottle of scotch i bought ever a few years ago, like it a lot, on my 3rd bottle of it, only really pull it out for special occasions. If you dont know much about scotch, this is probably a good starter. It's pretty light, slightly sweet, goes down smooth.
Other good scotches i own & enjoy - The Macallan 12 yr - anyone who drinks scotch has to own a bottle of this, very popular, most of you probably heard of it.
Talisker 10 yr - probably my favorite next to the Glenmorangie 10 yr.
Other whiskey i got (i know im a degenerate) - Knob Creek (9yr), Maker's 46 - one of my favs (awesome)
Other random alcohol ive collected - rarely drink, when company is over i pull em out (usually holidays)
Martell Cordon Bleu (Cognac)
Bushmills Malt 16 yr (Irish whiskey) - sometimes ill sip on this on my own, got it as a birthday gift.
Ciroc Coconut - For when i have female company over, most women dont like whiskey, need something for them.
Bailey's Irish Cream - Christmas/winter time
Limoncello - some lemon italian stuff - forgot when or where i got it from
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST - FEW BOTTLE OF RUM I GOT
I got something for everyone - the only 2 things i dont keep in stock are tequilla and gin, the first makes me do really really dumb shit and i just cant enjoy it, and gin taste like pine oil... nuff said.
Rum is probably my whiskey alternative and i only drink "good" rum
Don Q Gran Anejo - really good, usually drink it on the rocks
Appleton Estate 21 yr - another good one
Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 yr - someone actually bought this for me as a christmas gift, never heard of it before then, read it was awesome, opened it up a few weeks ago for brother's bday - good stuff
looking back at my post i went a lil overboard - but for any of you that enjoy the taste of whiskey, rum, whatever and/or build up a selection of your own (dont just drink for the sole purpose of getting shitfaced) - enjoy
I know this may come as a surprise to everyone, but I've always been partial to smoke-able intoxicants. I don't have much of a taste for beer, but I suppose if someone else is buying drinks I'll have a vodka cran. If we're at home celebrating a special occasion I much prefer a good bottle of Johnnie. I'm talking at least double black. Something to sip on while puffing a fine cigar.
Jack Daniels is pretty good but don't go for your 'mixer bottles' which is basically your old no brand and some of the limited editions (white rabbit saloon for example was a MAJOR let down) honey brand is good. As is gentleman Jack
