I woke up this morning with a huge hangover and I am contemplating going off the drink for good.
I drink maybe once or twice a week. That might seem a lot to some but its bred into everyone in the country I live in from an early age.
Not saying everyone in Ireland are alcoholics but we do like our few sociables now and then.
Nearly every event I can think of we (not all) have a few beers.
New Year's Day
Valentine's Day
Paddy's Day
Good Friday
Father's Day
Halloween
Christmas ( most days of this holiday )
Birthdays
Anniversaries
Weddings
Funerals
and so on.
When I say a few its in most cases until we cannot drink any more.
On an average nights drink I would consume a good 20 pints myself and most others would be the same that I have noticed when I head out.
I just thought i'd make a poll and see how all you guys rate and if I am an alcho of wtf.

20 pints is frankly insane, and you're surprised that you have a hangover?
I'll never understand why people drink so much, and then say they're going to stop completely. Why not just drink less? If you're wasted, you've got no idea what's going on around you anyway, so what's the point in being out?

I don't drink alcohol (or fizzy drinks for that matter)... I'm just not liking the taste all that much...
Though I'm NOT disgusted by it...
I will drink alcohol if I'm thirsty and there isn't anything else, but I rather drink even just water...

Tbh I was not that drunk last night.
I remember the whole night and I was not even stumbling around the place either.
I'm not complaining about my hangover at all.
I'm just curious what everyone else falls into.
The hangover is not the reason I was thinking of going off the drink either.
I am 25 and I am thinking of getting into the gym and get as fit and healthy as I can before I pass my peak years is all.

If you're saying you had anywhere near 20 pints and weren't wasted, that's bullshit. I don't care how tolerant you are, 20 pints is going to put you on your back.
If I were in your position, I wouldn't be cutting back to get fit. I'd be cutting back to prevent me crapping out my liver.

I drink if there's an opportunity to make business.
I drink when hanging out with drinking buddies, but nothing more than 1 or 2 pints.
I don't want to kill my body just yet. Not only dangerous for your liver, alcohol was scientifically proven of decreasing your concentration permanently due to some brain cells may be damaged beyond regeneration (the more the alcohol in your blood system, the higher this event to happen).
Therefore: alcohol = unhealthy and unnecessary if you don't use it to make profit.

Not true at all. 20 pints is around 30 units, drunk over 6/7 hours. You can stay standing on that. Definitely be drunk. But not near paralytic.

20 pints is an average nights drinks.
Once you have a good meal before you drink you can hold a lot more.
I agree with your last comment though about the liver. I know its not a healthy habit. Thats why I am considering giving it up altogether.

Normally 2,3 times a week. But have stayed off since new year,to give my liver a chance. As you get older it's harder to process the alcohol.Plus the 3 day recovery time was a bummer.

It's more like 40. 20 pints is retarded. There is no reason to drink such amount of anything, and of course and there is no reason to drink so much. For any reason. You don't drink ten litres of water in 6 - 7 hours, you don't drink ten litres of milk, or coke. So why do you need to with beer?
A bottle of wine is usually about 10-13 units. If your not drunk by having consumed the best part 3 or so and half bottles of wine, or 10 litres of beer this is simply a case of being "an 'ard man" and fronting.

In my youth I would drink a LOT.
I played in a rock band (still do) and it was just part of the lifestyle, I could easily go through a crate of beer at a rehearsal, and it is true, the more you drink, the higher your tolerance becomes.
I married a lovely woman, whose father was an alcoholic, she didn't like me drinking so much, so I cut down.
Every so often I would go out and get hammered, but as I got older, the hangovers and recovery time became worse and longer, so I've reached the point in my life where I only drink a little, and very rarely.
These days, I'm more likely to be training than drinking, a concept which would have been alien to me 20 years ago.

and i drink to be social most of the time, i never drink to get piss drunk, i never understood why people would constantly drink over their limits

I'm an occassional drinker so not often, but when I do it's never to get drunk. I'd drink like a glass of wine or something mellow like that.

I drink sporadically, some weeks I might 3-4 nights, other times I will go months without any alcohol, it just depends what's going on. At the moment I think it's been about 3 weeks since I have drunk, in the week prior to that it was 4 times, including one where I had about 15 stds over 4 hours and I was out of it. The rest were just a couple of beers after work with family/friends visiting town.

People dont drink alcohol for the taste.
If this was the case, Tequila would have about 4 people buy a shot each year.
Drinking when the majority of people are not makes you self concious
Not drinking when the majority of people are makes your friends annoying
Its an all or nothing game.
Drinking socially is great, drinking antisocially is depressing.
But with everything, moderation is the key.. in my experience, i dont have any more fun when im wasted than when im quite tipsy.
However, being wasted makes for much better stories.

If you are considering quitting then there is a book you should read called Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry, also I'm more of a whiskey man myself but in good moderation.
