So, you seem to know it all, definitely more than mere novices like those of us who have offered advice.
Why bother starting a thread when your mind was already made up?
My mind is made up about a new bike, yet people still said get a secondhand one, despite saying I don't want a secondhand one. I was looking for advice on new bikes that might be worth a look at that I might have overlooked.
I've done a fair bit of research already, so I know a bit of what I'm talking about.
Well looky here, its another one! When everyone says something, clearly the smart bet is to say DURR THAT ISN'T WHAT I ASKED ANYONE HAVE REAL ADVICE FOR ME and then ignore it.
At least get a bank loan instead of a dealership finance dumbass, bike shops are just waiting for someone just like you to walk through the door.

Show me a bank that offers 0% loans, and I'm sure he'd go with that.
Dealers are desperate to sell bikes at the moment, and you can get some very good 0% finance deals.

To be fair, I have no idea because I don't buy new vehicles like a moron, so you may be right.

Yes dealerships do like to offer 0% finance, but the price is set. Walk in with cash, and you are sure to get a nice price knocked off the dealerships RRP.

What have I ignored? Apart from the crap about getting a second hand bike, which I'm not going to do.

So you have no idea, yet decide to post anyway? Did you read the thread? I mentioned before that they are doing 0% interest on bikes.
Getting a bank loan would mean monthly payments of £180 for three years. Paying a total of around £6,700. Wouldn't I be a 'dumbass' if I did that instead?

Nope, I've already been told that we can sort a deal out. Only thing that is set is the deposit.

Well, you kind of mistook what I meant when I said "I have no idea". I mean, I do know that it takes someone pretty stupid to buy something that loses 1/3 of its value as soon as you touch it because you just got your license. I get the feeling I actually have a much better idea about buying vehicles than you do.
I bought my first bike BRAND NEW with 0% finance from Yamaha.
Im very much considering doing the same with the next bike from the same dealer with the same %.
I' be going for a yamaha xj6. I love the look of it, i just need a test ride it to make sure I really do love it.

I was told this too by people. As a copper I dont f**k around on the streets and ride sensibly. I so far have had NO near misses / crashes / falling offs.

f**k me at the idiots on here indeed.
Ive analysed the specs, checked reviews, spoken to several friends who work as mechanics. I have checked my sources.
Knowing what a bike does and loving its specs is one thing. I need to ride it to make sure im comfortable with it.
Explain yourself then ?
EDIT : Also youre the one who suggested a bloody bank loan. Who are at like 19.9% APR . Plonker. Dont bite me because youre bitter at us objecting your opinions with FACTS.

Sorry, I would have buckled to your peer pressure when I was 16. I drive beyond the speed limit through deep traffic for a living now. But thank you for trying.

You properly do have a better idea, I've owned three cars. Like I said, I don't care about it losing value, it will be paying for itself from day one (just by the saving on fuel).

Careful, don't admit that you got a new bike on finance on here! It seems its better to murder a bus full of kids.
When are you going to test ride yours? I've got mine on the 15th for a hour or so. Rather looking forward to it already.

No, it doesn't "pay for itself", unless you are comparing it to a car? Or some other wack metric? Yeah, it gets better mileage than a car, which has absolutely jack shit to do with you paying 2k extra just to be able to be the first one to put the keys in the ignition.

Both of my cars do better mileage than either of my bikes. When I started riding, bikes were far cheaper to run as far as petrol consumption is concerned - not any more.

I currently spend £250/£300 a month on fuel in my car. Fuel on the bike for the same distance will be £60/£70...even with the repayments, I'm saving money. Insurance, tax and MOT are cheaper too.
I don't understand what you have against someone buying something new...

Sorry you can't afford to buy new, maybe one day, huh? *pats on head*
I buy new, because it's new. Plus, I tend to replace my daily driver before it needs it's first MOT, so I barely even need to lift the bonnet before I get rid.

Get a Honda CBR, or Kawi made in the early 90's
Everyone drops their first bike... better to drop something that won't set you back to the tune of thousands of (dollars)
my first bike was an '87 honda hurricane ... the only year that 1000cc bike was on a steel frame .. nice and heavy and and stable, but could still drop a bill (go 100MPH) in about 7 seconds
it topped out about 160mph ... so that is pretty much a little faster than you want to be going if you are dealing with other vehicles and roads that aren't that great...
I had to lay that bike down a few times while learning to be a bad ass... until I finally slid it into a couple trees and ruined it forever.. but by that point I didn't care so much about the bike and I only paid $1000 dollars in the first place and was having great fun riding it as hard as I could without worry of totaling it.
Buy a breaker ... ride the shit out of it ... and then get yourself a gsxr like the rest of civilized cyclesociety
Not interested in a second hand bike. I like the piece of mind of not having to worry about huge bills for a while. No MOTs for three years, and if its new, I'll know its been looked after.
Seeing as my job is with the Police, I'm not one to be a twat on the road and do silly speeds, so no need for a bike to do 160mph.
Umm .. what huge bills are you referring to with a second hand bike? Maintenence and repair? someone would be willing to build you a basketcase from the ground up for what one of your monthly payments would be on a new bike.
Anyway .. now that I know you work for the police and are among the highest paid civil servants... I am perfectly happy to let you waste your money as you see fit.
I don't expect that you will come back to tell us about laying down your brand new toy and being stuck paying for it... that's just what inexperienced riders do.
good luck.. try to remember to keep the rubber side down.
