so law abiding citizens prevent shit like that, uh? exactly how many of those have stopped anything in the past, say, 5 years?

http://www.13wham.com/news/local/story/Homeowners-Scare-Off-Burglars/7yaLSXAvCUGBkwgAZpGO4g.cspx

Happens multiple times every day. You just have to search for the small town news station that will actually cover it. Don't make assumptions because you don't see it on CNN or the BBC. It makes you look uneducated.

People scare off burglers all the time by turning on a porch light (because most dont break into houses if they think people are home), it just doesnt make the news.

**side note: just wanted to point out, in that story he scared them off with an unloaded weapon.

People also fail to scare potential burglars off all the time and many people have been raped, assaulted and/or killed in their own homes. But why would you care about that when it doesn't suite your argument?

** Side note: Just wanted to point out that he defended his house with an "Assault rifle". Loaded or not, the "assault rifle" took NO lives and served it's HOME DEFENSE purpose. Now, personally I wouldn't use an AR-15 for home defense but to each their own.

Does that quench your thirst of someone answering "How could an Assault Rifle ever be practical or useful besides looking cool?". There is your answer. They don't just look cool, they are intimidating. Call it a dick complex if you want, but bigger guns are more intimidating. Pull out a Saturday night special .32 and someone might still be brave, same with a small .22 or 9mm. But pull out a gun that looks like Rambo's wet dream and when the burglar runs they can get DNA from the trail of feces he left behind.

Quick question, which gun would scare you more?

This-#1
tac22_zpsd566ec02.jpeg

or this-#2

38special_zps6dccb6ad.jpeg

Not surprising to gun owners but #1 is more intimidating just because it looks like it was made to slaughter, yet #2 is a higher caliber and responsible for at least 4 times as many deaths in the US than #1.

Yet people across the nation want to see #1 gone and could care less about #2 because they are too ignorant to even study what they are trying to oppose.

But thanks for the useless rant as usual.

Well considering your lack of relevance in ANY conversation besides "Hey here's what I think and here's NO statistic or fact that has any thing to do with the conversation, but it's bad cause I said so and the right wing is bad so I'm on board and everyone but me is STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!".... my heart remains somehow unbroken.

YOU asked for a purpose for "assault rifles"... You SPECIFICALLY BEGGED for someone to respond to that for 3 f**king days... and once someone answers, what is your answer? " Haha, well, shotguns are scarier so it doesn't matter if you have a point! HAHA!"..... really? "If you give me a legitimate answer to the question I asked, then your answer is useless because I said so".... REALLY?!?!? REALLY TED?!? We ALL see your desperation to "win" every discussion, but you are looking VERY ignorant when you beg for an answer, then get it and choose to blindly ignore it and change the subject... you ARE pathetic boy...

I was comparing one of the biggest life takers in the USA to the type of gun that the hippies, pussies and libs want banned. I CAN compare things to shotguns, but that was not my intention and you would be quite embarrassed by those results. .... As an example, you are more likely to be killed by a hammer than a rifle or shotgun in America. Sounds made up, but I dare you to look it up...

That is really odd. One would think that, with so few people there, everybody in Britain would have the same opinion.

And can you believe I actually observed you sarcasm? Who'd have thunk it?

Yes, what you quoted was a very week point, but it stands to reason that everyone everywhere has a different opinion, yet Ted thinks that he is above and beyond and his opinion is the only one that matters, even if he agrees with you but intentionally changes his stance and views so that he can argue more... You can't tell me you don't see THAT...

YAY! I like when people catch my sarcasm.

Playing the devil's advocate is sometimes important in a debate though (I'm not saying this is what he's doing, I haven't followed what he's been saying too closely). At home, in the pub, I often just lie about my views to see what others think. Can be interesting. Often, a few of my friends say my opinion in a much more eloquent manner than I would and I steal what they say word for word the next time I need it!

It's only an internet forum here, at the end of the day.

Ahhh... you should spend about 10 minutes in Ted's post history and you will realize that he's one of those guys that just argues for the sake of arguing.... half the time he doesn't care if he's "correct" or not, he's just in the argument for the sake of arguing... he LIVES off of people agreeing with him..... He doesn't care if he's wrong or not, he just wants to argue no matter what and building an "lol" following suites his needs perfectly...

Well considering you dont/cant read anything I write and you fly off the handle into drunken rages over things I didnt actually say, you literally are STUPID STUPID STUPID.

Yes I asked for a specific purpose for an assault rifle that you cannot get from another gun, and as I pointed out a shotgun does the same thing if not better. So, ya still got nothing dumbass.

More people die from hammers than "assault rifles".....And the punchline is..? I care because?

**It is really funny how much of a boner you get freaking out on me like a 4 year old and trying to turn strangers against me because you just cant handle how wrong you are constantly. Even funnier is you telling people to look at my post history when your post history is pages and pages of you having retarded arguments over stupid ass football...Every time you try to insult me you just prove how much of a hypocrite you are...

so...an AR-15 is basically useless because other weapons have a better performance, be it for hunting or home defense.
however, they are good for intimidating purposes, therefore they should not be banned.

sounds reasonable.

so law abiding citizens prevent shit like that, uh? exactly how many of those have stopped anything in the past, say, 5 years?

http://www.13wham.com/news/local/story/Homeowners-Scare-Off-Burglars/7yaLSXAvCUGBkwgAZpGO4g.cspx

I'm sure the burglar knew that weapon was unloaded and are we supposed to stay up all night standing by our porch light switch so we can turn it on when burglars show up? Most of your arguments are weak and baseless. I've read through several of your posts and some carry merit but it seems you just like to listen to yourself talk.

People like that go for easiest target, you make it hard or uncomfortable for them to rob and they will go to the next guys house, locked windows and doors with things like security light, alarm box will do a lot more than the possabilty of someone armed and ready being in the house.

true, an easy target is always better.

who cares if the owner is inside and armed? if they see your house as a challenge to break into they won't even bother to try most of the times and just move to the next easy robbery.

if you make it easy to go inside, don't say it was the gun they saw you wielding inside that saved the day.

I didnt say that.

I have already said more than a few times times in this thread that you have the right to shoot an intruder in your house.

I was more referring to the point I made earlier that just because you see someone on the news who shot an intruder doesnt mean that they saved their family from getting killed or that the situation could have been resolved without someone getting shot. Im sure in some (if not many) cases they might just not have known someone was home and may have been scared away with something as simple as turning a light on.

And to make it clear for stupid people like Crow even though I have said it half a dozen times, that doesnt mean I am saying that if someone breaks into your house and you have a gun that you shouldnt be able to shoot them.

That's the point that I tried to make earlier in the thread. We can't say one way or the other whether or not the weapon saved someone or their family from getting killed, and I'm not saying that you should shoot someone in the face the second they step foot into your house either. What I'm saying is simply that if the sight of my gun doesn't scare them off that I still have the option to shoot them. Maybe not even kill them. Just impair them enough that they can't harm myself or my family.

I think guns should be cheaper, less regulated, and able to be purchased by anyone 16+ years old. A junior in high school should be able to arm themselves. Also, no screening for clinically depressed, bipolar, or any other mental illnesses, and cheaper ammo.

You guys do realize that most of the "assault rifles" they are planning on banning are just civilian versions. To be an assault rifle it has to have an intermediate cartage and selectable fire control. That means one more option after safe and semi. Like if it had burst, cycle, or full auto.

If your wanting to know how well gun control works. Take a look at the gun crime rates in New York, Illinois, and California. They have the tightest gun laws out of any state. Yet they are still worse then Texas, Florida, or any other state that you can buy pretty much what ever you want.

Next up is people who say hand guns are banned in UK, Japan, and South Korea. It seems to be working fine there. In these countries the average citizen did not own a gun to begin with. Plus there basically Islands, making it a lot harder to traffic the guns. (South Korea is blocked off from the rest of the world by North Korea. If you haven't been to the DMZ your not getting by as a gun runner there.)

If you think that the police are going to save you think again. Your looking at what could be 10 or more minutes after you make a call to the police for them to respond. which is more then enough time for who ever to do what ever their intentions were going in to your house.

Look man, I respct the spirit of that argument, but check it out... when some jackass kid/teenager/early 20s/30s/40s/50s guy with mommy issues decides he's had enough of women laughing at him and nobody respecting him decides to shoot some shit up like a school or a movie theater just because, it just MIGHT prevent it if they had to actually deal with a criminal to get a gun like that rather than fish one out of uncle Chester's basement, you feel me? It's not like the jackasses shooting up crowds are hardened criminals just marauding the streets with illegal weapons, dude.

AKA the gun control laws arent a response to crime, stop with that line of argument. It's a response to sensless massacre and how easy it is.

Wouldn't be so easy if people would arm themselves.

By "people", do you mean the kids, the teachers, or the movie theater ushers?

Look, all I'm saying is that the "criminals don't obey gun laws" argument is just not applicable to this situation, and its hery derpy dee to bring it up. The dumbasses treating public places like a turkey shoot are NOT hardened criminals, nor do they get they get their guns from hardened criminals. And before you say it, turning that same place into an untrained moron vigilante crossfire with the children in the middle instead of just a turkey shoot is, uh, not the greatest of ideas.

I agree with most of that. How can you say that the criminals don't obey gun laws argument isn't the most solid of all arguments? Its the honest truth. All they do by making a place gun free is disarm law abiding citizens leaving them as sheep for the wolves. Generally though I'm pretty sure that you can't be an untrained moron vigilante and still get a concealed carry license. I train weekly and pay tons of money to take classes so that I am better prepared for any situation that might befall me.

I didn't say it wasn't solid. I will however say that it is rhetorical.

And it's beside the point, that's what I WAS saying. And I'm not sure why we're talking about a concealed carry license, everyone claims they are responsible with a gun. Meanwhile the ATF suggests, not requires, but suggests, that vendors not sell firearms to those they suspect of being drunk or high. Whatever, again, totally beside the point.

Well that great that you think you are trained for an armed person busting into a room shooting people, even if you are that doesnt mean that if there are 10 other people in the room with guns are. That doesnt help you if one of them freaks out and thinks you are also a shooter and then shoots you also. Police specifically train for these situations for hours and hours (not just shooting weapons at a firing range) and they dont believe an average citizen will be prepared to deal with the chaos of these situations no matter how many hours you have at the firing range. They believe it most likely wont help the situation, it just makes you more of a target, and it makes it more confusing for cops to determine who is the shooter when they arrive on the scene.

You might find this ABC report interesting, although I am sure you will tell yourself, "Im better than those people" and completely ignore it...

Most drug dealers are armed to the teeth over there, yet they end up dead..probably because one got the jump on the other. The average crim won't want to use his gun constantly, waving it around so people can identify him as 'The Bad Guy',id say if there was a guy outside at night, wanting enter your house to kill you and rob you..then you better hope luck is on your side and you hear, see him first..Myself if i was that worried id make my house a fortress for my kids..i wouldnt want that coin flip of me getting lucky, seeing him 1st when im armed, loaded ready to fire before he was.
Why do police wear bullet proof vests?because even tho there armed maybe better than the crim it means nowt.

P.s.Stray gun fire from the 'criminal types'..how does a gun help that, when there in your street, firing willy nilly with dodgy guns pass and in to ppls houses.

pps.Any gun people wish they could exist in a place where you and MOST criminals are unarmed or does it have to be you need to be armed.
