This is my little fishy tank, which clearly needs to be cleaned and have water added to it. My midget named the gold one princess and the black one prince.

Wow... I am speechless. Please pour some water in there at least.

Just wondering, how much does a good aquarium cost and maintain? For that matter how long do fish even live?

Well depending on your budget. I would say to be prepared to spend at least $200, and that is with a secondhand tank that you will need to put elbow grease into, and get some fresh substrate, deco, and fish. Let me know if you want to get into it, and I can stalk craigslist for a decent deal.

i'd never heard of anyone having crabs in an aquarium but that looks pretty cool ...

They're really interesting pets. What they are doing in the pic is waving their big claw around. The males have the one big claw and they use it to attract the lady crabs. Even though there are 4 males and no females in the tank they still wave alot of the time. They do all sorts of fun and interesting things.

That is cool. How often do they get out. Crabs are clever little bastards, and have a tendency to escape everything. And of course the female crabs are scouting for a big claw...

Surprisingly they have never escaped. I really want to acclimate them to people so I can hold them but I don't think its happening lol. Crabs can actually die from stress so I don't wanna try too much. I have a weird fascination with inverts, crabs especially. When I get out if school and start making money I want to set up a shrimp and crayfish tank, maybe with some frogs and such. There's a killer pet store about an hour away that has a bunch of regular crayfish, along with blue and albino ones.

Yeah, I appreciate them as well. I love the crayfish especially. I had one that would climb around and hide in my caves. He would also eat the fish, crazy mean bastard he was. But alas, he was a climber and my pet sitter wasn't aware he escaped whilst I was vacationing....
