We're thinking of riding our bikes to the show. Mountain bikes. Not motorcycles. Just need to make sure they're safe. We all have VIP packages so that damn well better help.

Mayhem line-up so far:

Rob Zombie
Five Finger Death Punch
Mastodon
Amon Amarth

Job For A Cowboy
Butcher Babies
Battlecross
Huntress

Behemoth
Emmure
Born Of Osiris
Motionless In White
Thrown Into Exile

More To Be Announced

Hmmm, seems like a Death Metal fest. I've listened to a few of these bands. I'm more of a non scary metallikitten. I do like the melodic death metal stuff. Especially about Vikings.

Mayhem Festival update.

I really liked the majority of the bands we saw. It was pretty hot and muggy but the bands were going all out. There were 4 stages. The reserved seating for the main stage didn't open until 5-530 pm

The next set of stages were side by side and alternated sets. When one band finished, the next band immediately started. It was funny watching this huge mosh pit switching from stage to stage, lol.

What wasn't very funny was that I brought 4 bottles of unopened water with me and the pricks at the gate said I had to open them all as no caps are allowed. Like hell I'm going to carry 4 opened bottles of water around so I had to trash 3 of them. 12 0z bottles were, of course, being sold at the event...with f**king caps.

The prices were completely ridiculous for food, drink and merchandise (I decided to just by my stuff online). 12 oz water was 4.50 usd, 16 oz beer was 11-16 usd, bottles of wine were marked up 4 times or more than store prices.

When the main stage finally opened we went to our 3rd row, not too far left of center stage seats

First off, I'm definitely a new convert to death metal, especially the melodic stuff. I loved all 4 of the headliner bands, Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastodon and Amon Amarth.

All 4 of the bands had complaints about the seating arrangements. There was no area(s) for a mosh pit near the stage like there was for the other stages. The singer from Mastodon said it was f**kin bullshit and apologized to the crowd.

Rob Zombie was definitely pissed off. At one point he jumped off the stage and walked around. I lost sight of him before he got to the lawn section. A few minutes later he comes back around to the other side of the stage. He doesn't say anything and just starts playing Dragula or Living Dead Girl. I don't remember which.

He didn't come out for any encore, either.

My overall experience for this event is a 4/10.

The bands that I managed to see (and I tried to see as many as possible) were all great. I give them an 8.5/10.

Shoreline Amphitheater and their nazi tactics at the gate (it's the water gate scandal all over again) to make us spend way too much money on overpriced crap gets a 2/10

I'll never go there again. Unfortunately we already bought tickets for Black Sabbath at that venue.

edit: I'll never go there again...after Sabbath.

I'll give them credit for not enforcing the local smoking laws. The amphitheater, which is outdoors, is considered by law a non smoking facility.

I might go see a Sammy Hagar show. He'll be playing with people he's played with throughout his career from Montrose (yes, I know he's dead, there were 2 other guys in the band) to Van Hagar and beyond. I heard Joe Satriani might show up.

That won't be at the amphitheater. That will be at the America's Cup Pavilion...what a fiasco that race has turned out to be.
