I'm just wondering how EA dares to launch such a faulty crappy program and expects it to compete with Valve's steam..
Yup, Steam is there for a long time, so they have more experience and all that, but doesn't EA have a) enough money and b)some good professional IT people to at least make a decent working program :)
Their support is non-existant as well..
Imo, steam beats Origin in all aspects by a mile. Origin is just another pathetic attempt of EA for making cash for a shitty service.
anyway there is a nice comparative article here which sums it up quite good imo..http://www.futurelooks.com/origin-vs-steam-in-dept-comparison-of-the-software-platforms/
ps. yes the failing update of BF3 was the catalyst to this post, but honestly i've had many more frustrating moments with Origin so i just had to rant :D
Steam isn't that far off from Origin. Once upon a time Steam was close to the epitome of PC gaming, yet for the past few years it's been stagnating and becoming a piece of unstable shit.
Instead of sales, we now have a pile of shit.
Instead of a gaming-chat platform, we now have a Facebook application.
Instead of a streamlined gaming interface, we have an unstable pile of shit.
It's almost as though Valve was bought out 4 years ago. That's the only explanation i can think of...
Steam
-When starting up its fairly quick
-Ability to backup game files to a hardrive or CD/DVD in case you need to reformat your computer or for whatever reason.
-Cloud service for uploading game saves as backups
-Some of the best deals in the game industry especially around the holiday season.
-Awesome support from Valve when it comes to third party stuff and indie developers.
-Easy and intuitive interface with cool in game functions and an in game internet browser....very useful if you need a guide for a game level without having to minimize the game to use Firefox or another browser.
-When downloading a game its like watching a jet fighter break the sound barrier because most of my games download very quickly with little lag.
just to name a few good reasons....
Origin
-Getting Origin to startup takes forever even with a good computer
-Basic interface
-Not a lot of functionality to it
-Unreliable service
-File corruption issues sometimes having to reinstall just to play a game
-Few good deals(if any at all)
-Shit support service if you have problems but that is typical EA
-When downloading a game I feel like I'm using dial up internet....mind you I have a 5 to 10mbps download speed
EA have enough money I'd argue, but not enough support. Their customer service record is not too desirable to say the least...
It's really disapointing that EA refuse to list games on steam now, comes down to them just disagreeing with Valve's new ToS if I recall? Big shame, if Crysis 3 was on steam I'd probably have ended up getting it, so much easier to use than Origin, I tried using Origin (For the sake of Crysis) and ended up just giving up eventually out of frustration.
If companies like EA want to actually try to 'combat' piracy then they need to stop being complete morons with more DRM and actually make the legal alternatives BETTER, steam is a wonderful example of this... EA are just too narrow minded to see it and ultimately cannot compete with Valve's service.

I think you'd partially agree with what the founders of pirate bay have to say on why people illegally download stuff
companies(like EA) just don't or can't adapt to a new medium or market changes.
I buy games myself on PC but rarely if ever get the DLCs or Add on campaigns unless they're huge but if they're too overpriced I just pirate them and mod them to work with my legit copy.

support your favorite studios and artists though
I do, i buy the games and refuse to pay for overpriced DLC that was meant to be in the game but publishers always swoop in and get devs to set certain things aside as overpriced DLC.(like in game weapons for example.....)
main reason why I either wait for bundle packs and lowered prices or I simply pirate the DLC

Uber hax0r.
its not hacking, its just copying some files to various file paths to get the DLC to work with the legit copy.
