They've finally unveiled details of their new console([color=red]just details no images of the console iteself[/color]) which is no surprise since rumors about Microsoft plans say they plan to unveil the successor to the 360 supposedly at E3 in June. Sony recently has had a lot of financial losses in the past 4 years and the PS3 didn't do nearly as well as they had hoped but I'm hoping that the PS4 will help them get back on their feet.
Anyways here is the BBC article and the link to the article page but currently there are no images of the console itself just images of the controller which will had the classic dual shock but with an added touchscreen.

Sony has announced its next-generation gaming console - the PlayStation 4 - at an event in New York.
Its new hardware is designed to offer superior graphics as well as new social features including the sharing of recorded gameplay clips.
It will succeed the PlayStation 3, which went on sale in 2006 and has sold about 75 million units.
The PS4 will eventually compete against Microsoft's still-to-be-unveiled Xbox 360 successor and Nintendo's Wii U.
Sony also confirmed a range of big-name software for the machine including Bungie's upcoming "shared-world shooter" Destiny, which will include exclusive content for the PS4. The developer's previous title, Halo, helped drive sales for the rival Xbox platform.
A successful launch might drive sales of the Sony's new televisions and other consumer electronics, helping turn around its fortunes.
Sony posted a 456.7bn yen loss ($4.9bn; £3.2bn) in its last financial year, marking the fourth year it ended in deficit.
But the firm has forecast a 20bn yen profit for the current financial year ending in March.
Sony said the console was "coming holiday 2013" suggesting it will go on sale in at least some countries in or around December. It did not give any indication of its price.
PC-based chip
Sony described the machine as being like a "supercharged" PC.
It runs off an x86-based CPU (central processing unit) - similar architecture to that found in most desktop computers - and an "enhanced" PC GPU (graphics processing unit).
It comes with the new DualShock 4 controller, which includes a touchpad, a "share button" and a lightbar, which allows a separate camera to track its movement.
"This is a complete controller upgrade with touch, share and better responsiveness," said Brian Blau, an analyst at the tech consultancy Gartner.

"The new controller is the key to a better PS4 experience. It has the ability to share content easily, and brings in a component of touch that allows even more ways to interact with games."
The console also includes new hardware dedicated to video compression to make it a more social device.
Users will be able to pause a game, select a few minutes of recorded video of their most recent activity, and instruct the clip to be uploaded to a social network.
This will then occur in the background while they can return to their game. The firm said it wanted to make sharing video clips as common as it is today to share screenshots.
Another new feature is that gamers can let one of their friends connect to their machine and take control of their character to help if they have got stuck, or allow several friends to watch their live progress as spectators. This facility uses technology from Gaikai - a cloud-based service Sony acquired last year for $380m.
Gaikai's technology is also being used to allow PS4 games to be streamed and played via the PlayStation Vita handheld console, which may boost its sales.
Sony said it was also exploring the possibility of using its Gaikai unit to allow PlayStation3 games to be played on the new machine as well as other devices.
However, at the moment PS3 games will not run on the new console.
'More important'
Sony invited developers on stage to preview some of the PS4 games being worked on. They included Killzone Shadowfall - an addition to its bestselling Killzone science fiction first-person shooter series; the racing game DriveClub; superhero game Infamous: Second Son; and Diablo 3.
Developer Ubisoft also confirmed that its much-discussed title WatchDogs, which involves a hacker taking control of a smart city's systems, is indeed being developed for the PS4.

The PlayStation 3 was initially sold at a loss, so if that practice is repeated with the new model its launch may initially put fresh strain on the firm's finances.
Even so, one analyst suggested that Sony would be willing to take the pain to maximise early demand.
"Without the established user base and community of PS3 and PlayStation Network, Sony would be without a significant home entertainment foothold allowing it to connect many of its other consumer electronic devices, products and services," said Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games at IHS Screen Digest.
"Sony's next generation device is likely to take on more importance not less." |

I've been looking for a vid of the press confrence
I laughed half the time because of the asian accents
Now as for the PS4 I'm kind of skeptical as to what Sony is trying to do with the controller revamp but spec wise the console is still outdated technically speaking especially when they seem to be trying to market it in a way that it can compete with PC when in reality it can't. I do like how the controller seems to be larger than past versions which is nice for the non asian crowd who have big hands.
Overall I'm not really sure what to make of the PS4 but I hope it works out for sony since they are have record losses at the moment.
Now as for games I am interested in the game called Watch Dogs and if I do get the PS4(depends on the next xbox) I may get the Witcher 3. Right now doesn't seem like Sony has gotten a lot of blockbuster games to launch the console although I do recall hearing about an Uncharted 4 and on the 27th of this month Assassins Creed 4 details will be released.

Well, for both consoles that are coming out people normally buy them because of affordability. Other reasons for buying would be personal preference and what your friends own. For instance, I prefer Xbox because of the controller style and most of my friends own one. Now if I had the money, I'd jump at the chance to own a gaming PC that can run games like Battlefield in Ultra but unfortunately I don't so I resort to the next gens.

Consoles will always be behind PC gaming, which is not bad if you think of it from an industry health point of view. It lets the industry grow by having more gamers, gives an affordable entrance to the gaming scene.
Unfortunately developers(programmers) become ignorant and forget they use a PC to make games, they decide to port games to PC which is utter bullshit. It has to be the other way around like in years past.
Anyways each new gen console brings less to the table, were seeing much cheaper hardware prices for PC components which bring PC gaming back as an option.
PC gamers are the master race, it will survive and thrive in just a few years time, just you wait

You are not going to be able to build a decent PC with 300-400€/£/$ don't even tell me you can and chances are the consoles are going to be in that price range. My laptop cost €500 and it can't even run bloody Minecraft properly. The next gen consoles are meant to bring something new to the table for people who are currently using a console, not some high end gaming rig. And it's having quiet the opposite effect than from what you're saying about PC gaming coming back. I'm subscribed to a lot of PC players on YouTube and they all seem to be hyped up about these consoles and even want to buy them. And PC gaming isn't as small as you might think, on YouTube about 4 out of my around 70 subscription play on console, the rest is PC.

After looking it over some more I have to agree the console doesn't have a whole lot of anything new aside from usual exclusives and a new controller that just integrates the move wand thing and copies Nintendo by putting a touchscreen in it.
They better have a damn good library of exclusive games otherwise I'll just borrow the console and games from a friend to save myself some money.
Only reason I bought a PS3 was to play exclusive games and the God of War collection because I don't need a blue ray player to play blue ray movies when I can simply run a cord to my TV and play them from my computer(pirated blue ray copies of course ).
I'll just wait and see what Microsoft has in store but they better have improved the air flow inside the console and added a bigger heat sink because of the times I opened up my 360 the heat sinks they used to keep the CPU cool were far too small to do the job.

No, you wouldn't I just built myself a mini tower dtx machine that seems a bit overpowered, yet $700 wasn't enough to make it worth my while, still have friggin problems with minecraft/ skyrim(modded) and need for speed most wanted(old) all on high graphical settings(photo realism texture pack for minecraft) the MAIN reason I have a ps3 is because I have downlaoded close to $500 worth of games for free(technically) in the last year, so you can nag and rag all you want about how pc gamers could even download their games for free(I just had 2 neighbors get caught doing it now that torrents are being monitored, they received their cease illegal use of torrenting letters in the mail before punitive actions were taken) I can still get my games for free, plus, whats better than something like the possibility of being able to have me and my brother cross over into games to help each other out? I like to think of it as co-op, he is crippled and states away but at least this way we could switch out whenever either of use has any problems with a particular game we can't semm to get past. *phew* anyway, I'm stoked, some of the possibilities of this new system seems endless(when you factor in all the companies they have bought out recently). I will always be a console fanboy.

No, you wouldn't I just built myself a mini tower dtx machine that seems a bit overpowered, yet $700 wasn't enough to make it worth my while, still have friggin problems with minecraft/ skyrim(modded) and need for speed most wanted(old) all on high graphical settings(photo realism texture pack for minecraft) the MAIN reason I have a ps3 is because I have downlaoded close to $500 worth of games for free(technically) in the last year, so you can nag and rag all you want about how pc gamers could even download their games for free(I just had 2 neighbors get caught doing it now that torrents are being monitored, they received their cease illegal use of torrenting letters in the mail before punitive actions were taken) I can still get my games for free, plus, whats better than something like the possibility of being able to have me and my brother cross over into games to help each other out? I like to think of it as co-op, he is crippled and states away but at least this way we could switch out whenever either of use has any problems with a particular game we can't semm to get past. *phew* anyway, I'm stoked, some of the possibilities of this new system seems endless(when you factor in all the companies they have bought out recently). I will always be a console fanboy. |

so what I mention that I play on PC, better than all the console fan boy crap I see all the time.

yeah weren't they making another MGS game because I remember seeing some trailer that had seamless transition between the custscenes themselves and it actually getting to the gameplay without any load times or on screen transitions. Its showed snake on screen but I can't remember if it was Naked Snake aka Big Boss(MGS3) or Solid Snake(MGS1 2 and 4).
I'm not referring to those shitty games that star just Raiden where he is going around cutting up enemies and stuff.
