Hawken is currently a PC exclusive which is completely free to play and in my honest opinion one of the more original FPS games to come out in a long time.
The gameplay here is from one of either the 1st or second closed beta ( I can't remember ) but right now its in open Beta stage so anyone can play.

paying helps but not much because the game is so well balanced that even a low level can take on a high level as long as they take the time to learn the game.
The one downside to the game is that it does have a small dev team who at the moment is working on a ranking and skill system to better improve the matchmaking.

I'm thinking about downloading it to try it out, but I already have a tons of unbeaten games on my computer and other stuff. I might just download it and play every once in a while. I was interesting in this game since last year when I first heard of it.

just try it out for a few hours
be warned though there is a bit of a learning curve and they're still working on getting the matchmaking so games are more balanced.
