AN ONGOiNG SERIES OF IDEAS, FROM A LOW-LEVEL TORN PLAYER GETTING TO KNOW THE CITY

i'd like to see an art museum in the city? ...where a player could showcase a series or pics (with little sub-headings, explanations, etc)
"i call this piece, 'knife stuck in head', it's a statement on big al's prices" ..it'd be cool to see what goes thru the minds of other torn residents..

i'd also like to encounter a graffiti wall somewhere in the city? and be able to write stuff on it ..or submit graffiti pictures (maybe a staff member could overlay new works on the wall once a week with a photoshop layering -updating the graffiti wall?)

..it'd be nice to spend say 10 energy on "a stroll in the park" (and maybe some random events could be triggered somehow? find small cash, bump into a cop, find a clue for a mission, find an item/lost lotto ticket/plane ticket? stuff like that? ..could also be interactive- loiter in the park and attempt to mug the next person who enters) (....i suppose this is already kind-of catered for in the 'dump search' event?)

sorry if this stuff exists already?.. (i'm still ripping off DVD's and dropping toasters)
(i DID look in the READ THIS FIRST topic) ..there just isn't much to do at these levels.. even fighting congenial is a pain in the ass just now..

(i'd also) like to submit comics for the newspaper but have to wait for lv 10. (getting there slowly)

new mission: replace royal baby george with a bag of potatos.

after hanging around for about two weeks now..
..surviving some global "chat"

this (thread) might turn into an ongoing ramble, (well, i'm pretty sure it will)
i'll try not to *bump* it

maybe it's the crack talking, but i'm probably not the only one who enjoys the *cough* social aspects of torn.. the chat, messages, fighting, shit like that.. i'd like to see some kind of activity in that newspaper? or something? ...most 'normal' people in their lives just talk shit anyway, that's why i avoid society and wear a tin foil hat, how about you?

i'd like to see little articles in the paper written by torn players, about anything? ..kinda like a forum topic? but more concise, dare i say even 'witty' ..something like a parody of the subscriber-reply system on various websites.. have a theme of the month? do articles on vacuous celebrities? political comedy.. aka: in some way the forum community activity could be infused w/ torn newspaper?

not really expecting much from the 'fighting' aspects atm, but they are fun, still getting some good beatings, mainly hoping some comic submissions in time will keep the landlord away

and the rest of this dribble is just some kind of feedback? ..probably be back in another week

some kind of 'pay to comment' on a users profile would be nice.. (half goldsink/half to user profile?/display 3 messages? max 155 chars?) ..(just) more 'community' stuff (is this a donater feature or something? ..torn is on its way to becoming facebook with balls ..and possibly less gov. ops)

..not sure how things go here, keen to see if the crimes are eventually linked with businesses (ie: messing with other players companies, etc) and other such -interactive- features.. i like the anonymous email (already got someone yanking my chain) ..liked

kinda got the ropes of making a sustaining income, training, all that shit.. the intro is too accomodating.. then it kinda abandons you, but this is also good in a game like torn.. (a kind of sink or swim cheesegrating filter system) ..but there could potentially be something for everyone/anyone to find here at torn? (..more than fighting)

..after 'chatting' with some of the fellow noobs, just can't help but wonder, after the initial excitement, will they be here in two weeks? (or will i be mugging their inactive accounts?)

hehe.. "who cares?" ..(what's the point?) -- when a new player arrives with username buttpuss (and name is not immediately censored, like so many other mmo/sites do) ..i want to see what kind of crap this kind of user is eventually going to post on their profile

there's other weird shit i'd eventually suggest too.. but they'd probably be better if less people knew of them.. (long-term playability aspects, game mythos, and related shit)

..like the blank business card.. is it just 'junk'..? ..or does it actually have a subliminal message written on it, saying SPEED (or dex, or whatever) and give a 1% gym train bonus.. (or have some other effect) ...and then i might not ever have known that, had i not strolled through the red light district and some fool shone their laserpen at me, which revealed the word briefly

another thing.. just now on a crime (failure) report
there is small randomization of the result/message feedback
and i suppose it suffices.. player reads report, meh, retry/change (...or fap)

but.. (oh, here we bloody go)

even here is the potential for random hilarity.. i get this message now, something like "the kid wakes up to get a drink and you book it out of there" (failure: larceny in apartment.. which i perform every so often in an attempt to expand the max. nerve bar..)

..it would be really cool to have certain crime reports, assemble their feedback from a little random database of people/places/events/items..

ie:
common response~ (60%) kid sleepwalking
uncommon response~ (30%) kid sneaking into kitchen
rare response~ (10%) kid sneaking back into house

(funnier/weirder if randomized a little further)
dog sleepwalking / mailman sneaking out of(or into) (whatever) room / etc

(..when randomized even further)
(mailman/pizza-delivery boy/etc) sneaking into (room) *insert michael jackson joke here also

(..with game items added into DB sweep; game-mythology)
(person) sneaking (into/out of) (room type) holding (eg: erotic DVD)

(and/or with username DB sweep)

just further rambling now..

class system/char. story arc/rank/label
hehe, hold on a sec', this is maybe not as stupid as it first sounds.. it only uses;
1) a series of those potential new missions (which others may care to conceive of in the 'design a mission' topic?)
2) utilization of the existing rank/label system

when i see these games (mmo's, for lack of a batter word) ..people often pursue an alter-ego, (and this is also currently reflected somewhat in the rank/label thing) ..so this 'class system' idea is kind-of nothing but a series of missions/character story-arcs a user could pursue (depending on the rank/label the game has already assigned to them) ...so it just expands on the existing concept (..or maybe something like this already exists?) ..sry if presumptuous ..it kinda caters for the players interest in 'story' /longevity/ reasons to keep coming back to an mmo

eg: the "samaritan" label
1) {intro, can begin at lv 20+} a series of 2-3 'missions' (with a story arc)
2) {mid-story, begin at lv 50+} more missions and 'story' paths
3) {end of path, begin at 70+} ..the thrilling 'story' conclusion of many months of playing

so the idea would be, at the 'end' of the intro missions, the player might be presented with 2 or 3 choices... depending on what was chosen, it leads to the next relevant 'mid-story' missions which also end with 2 or 3 choices, which are then all picked-up/encapsulated in the 'end' story missions.. so this potentially means 3x workload(mission/story path) for intro, 9x workload for middle and possibly 21x workload for all those potential end-story paths! ..and that's just for the "samaratin"!? (a huge concept) ~~but the final result would be amazing? because so many different players would be able to pursue so many different paths.. a game mythology/story could also be embedded into the overall series of missions, ..it could all be expanded on even more, having a city-wide event trigger when/if the overall series of background stories is ever fully unlocked(completed) by torn players/etc(?)

i know people don't want their companies being raped etc, (that's why we hide them in various offshore accounts, swiss banks, riddles wrapped in enigmas) but if all torn player companies are off-limits, this provides an untouchable and never-ending supply of 'game currency' ..?? ...is this the only such internet game that doesn't continually try to screw the user out of finances?

(X damage to the chest) asking "..does that mean my fist went through their stomach!?"

a way to create custom text 1-liner for finishing blow
(maybe requiring specialized weapon education course as a pre-req)

similar to the way RR is done.. (just auto-generate the results, don't actually play the game like it's played in the casino) ..maybe allow 2 to 6 players?

have the game host set the buy-in amount, any who join just pay the buy-in. the game 'winner' is auto-generated (randomly) (..maybe even 'knock out' a player every round untill a winner remains?)

the 'winner' wins the whole pot, and the 'loser' is unable to equip any armor for 1 hour (ie: naked)

..could also toss in some very small % random events?
"..you hung onto that spliff that was being passed around" (gain 1x cannabis)
"..you took home a beer" (gain 1x beer)

just little stuff like that

furthermore to this malarky i do hereby proclaim hosting a DRUG PARTY for you and your friends (the player and other torn members)

..why the idea comes about, names/words changed to protect the guilty
torn_member_1: puff puff pass
torn_member_2: hey nice

..so obviously the drug element is accepted in game; drug use is part of the game /shrugs
why not go the extra step with this?
incorporate it into the gameplay somewhat?


PARTY TYPES
little - (6 to 8 people)
medium - (9 to 24 people)
big - (25 to 50 people)
street - (51 to 99 people)
block - (100+ people)

so the mechanics is something like;
number_of_attendants / amount_of_drugs * party_type / random(1) = "result"
(hey.. my maths is atrocious)

* the 'host' has to supply an amount of drugs, which he/she selects from inventory (select amounts and types) ..so a host could either just announce "hey i'm throwin' a free drug party" and accept any applicant, or host a party and select the people they want only, and could also request donations for the party

* every attendant (loop until drugs_supplied is reached) receives the effect of a drug (either randomly selected from the drugs, or just loop thru types and amounts) ...also include the potential od status of any drug (people would then have to try and arrange a 'pot' party for example, if they wanted a non-threatening drug party experience and the host could still 'spike the punch' with some of the fun drugs instead ..just for fun)

* the amount of drugs selected is going to be less, same, or more than the attendants, so this will contribute to the type of party outcome

* if there's less drugs than attendants, this will probably trigger some fights (trigger a free randomly generated fight between two or more attendants, this kind of thing)

* if there's more drugs than attendants, this will probably end up with everyone in hospital, but would also be a really interesting way to trigger other various effects (party attendant might receive 2 or 3 day 'hangover' etc)

* there would also have to be some kind of benefit for the 'host' (such as finding various amounts of change over the next few days, eg: "score! ..you found $123,456 in change under the sofa" ..such lost change could also be part of random events at the party, especially for any who might od. maybe also an extended drug-effect for all successful attendants)

* the larger the party, it should be more difficult to 'succeed' at.. a block party would be of epic mythological proportions and should also benefit the host/attendants in some way ..and there'd be like a corresponding cooldown time until you could throw another party.. (that might days or weeks)

* (...add more)


..so ..as for the point of any of that? ..i don't know?

and i had fun typing it
..oh, and if anyone's got any spare drugs...

EDIT #1: the max. size of the party could be dependent on the hosts current house size (ie: only a small party could be thrown in a shack?)

Skimming over it some of this could actually be promising. Please do what's necessary to separate these ideas into unique suggestion threads. Most of the people that matter are going to ignore this thread when they realize that it's a conglomeration of about 8 different ideas.

thankyou Craven and others, i will look into that topic once again,

(i feel) the problem is;
..i tend to make a lot of submissions for game ideas/content (..i'm afraid i'd spam the boards)
i bump the topic every week or so, and try to use BOLD TEXT to highlight sections here

thanks for reading, and may all those old lady handbags be full of pension cheques

..i read the topic, (full of good advice ..and advised to provide as much detail as possible, i'd love to submit modified screenshots, etc, but the laptop i'm using doesn't seem to let me.. and i've googled and googled for a workaround.. will see what i can do, thanks again)

* (for example) when i steal the chocs, it'd be really nice on the report if it could know how many i've currently got (..i find they're a good alternative to drug+gym training)

Screenshots aren't always necessary. It just depends on how deep your idea goes. If you still think it's necessary to add screenies then there's a simple picture editing area within Photobucket. It may not do what you want it to, but you can cut, paste, crop, and color correct to your heart's content.

what i'm really interested in is character storyline(s) and little side-quests, things like that (ie: things to do while in torn.. i've had a few ideas for them, ..figured out how to take an SS with this crazy laptop and will start submitting them where relevant)

THE ARENA
i propose the balck69 memorial arena.
where players can fight one another and others can place bets on the fight
the fights were equally matched (level/days old)
there was not enough to capture the interest of a new member recently 'balck69'
so he took to organizing these popular bouts (..then moved on to hacking the site, ending up in fed)
he started out with a big noise, made a lot of enemies
but was highly entertaining..

a little bit MORE ON THAT NEWSPAPER..
well, in the global chat again recipes and cooking were talked about..
this and more interactive-kinda stuff could also be incorporated into the torn newspaper?

...at approx 50 days, i agree.. and have already bitched about this, there needs to be more stuff here to get involved in, waste time on, become immersed in...

for example; the historic artifacts gallery/museum could be expanded there to include a series of educational quests, history and hypothesis of ancient egypt, mayan empire, rome etc and many others.. if a person is clicking for black senet pawns or whatever, how much more clicking will be done to go further into the backstory of such items, shabti's and so on.. ..it just seems like so much could be done here?
kinda what i mean there is... if anyone would care to google internet search the terms "baghdad battery" and/or "antikythera mechanism" you will see there is some really interesting shit going on in our past history.. /shrugs


TORNMASONRY.. hehe
a secret society in the city would be cool, (with a 'lodge' city link maybe?)
maybe it could function similar to job (membership system)
there'd be questions to answer to advance through the ranks
ranks could maybe bestow merits
the benefits & other additions to any of that are probably best not discussed here, hehe..
only to say, parts of the gradiated initiation could be easily handled through implementation of the personal gallery/user sub-forum idea (see section below, ie: initiate members of tornmasonry would then be left to further 'study' the material on those pages, for advancing through the ranks.. items and such could also be required for advancement)


CHURCH
conversely, some kind of church link could be interesting and offer similar avenues,
the whole donation/beggar thing could be handled through this?
some kind of 'pope' could even be elected as head, and responsible for distribution of monies, any church campaigns(ie: +10k fund for any new player under 14 days who becomes a church attendee, shit like that, church might then function in similar way to job, requiring a click on church link at least once a week to maintain 'membership' benefits?), etc
a college of lesser cardinals would also be cool.. lots of scheming and schisms would arise, hehe.. a pope might only reign for 33 days and meet a sticky end.. so just a little hierachy system in the leadership (leader,co-leader,sub-leader)
-the "church system" could even be flexible this way, able to change certain options (ie: the church with 1 leader only is like a dictatorship in a sense, a church with many co-leaders seems to operate more like a democracy/committee) so the 'church' in torn could manifest itself as a traditional church setup, or some kind of hippy scene, buddhist scene, it could even become a nightmare if 1 powerful player got in there, know what i mean? ...(i think) it would be really cool to watch all this happen in microcosm and observe all this, to see the behavior of these systems for ourselves in miniature and learn from them
donations to the church would be possible through a link.
some kind of confession system could even be incorporated? (i'm thinking about the animosity that exists between such players who wantonly mug others, and the ones who 'complain' about them.. that whole dynamic.. hehe, the game could easily get involved in & facilitate all these little intricacies of human nature and make itself really interesting)
the church and tornmasonry could even be developed into 2 large in-house factions (apart from the normal factions) that could even clash with eachother (the mechanics of all that should not be discussed here otherwise people would know how it all works before they ever get involved in it)

with all these ideas, the whole point is to have a game with stuff to do... it's not about clicking on EVERY single link in the game... it's more about knowing there is always something DIFFERENT to find in the game

..as said before; when the people who run this game are not immediately censoring players who make names like 'buttpuss' (and people like me, who find it all amusing and insightful) ..there is not only the potential for hilarity and enjoyment here, but education and learning.. it seems like the current education courses reflect this potential but do not yet capitalize on it.

ah, anyway, just a stupid game i suppose..
but it doesn't have to stay that way



when i first got here, there was a little question/survey thing.
i specifically remember a line "tell us, go on, be honest, we like brutal honesty"
(or something to that effect..)

so here again, we all know the real world is a bit f**ked up and things like torn provide an outlet.
they can do so much more.
for us as players, and the owners as business people, if that is the brutal truth of the situation?

now what i mean here is something like this;
i'd like to be able to have another buy another image gallery (say, a sub-folder)
..with real world moneh, i'd pay something like 5 bucks at least, like a DP
because it is only a simple feature to implement

and i would like to have it so i can specify an amount paid to click on (view the images)
torn money, not real world moneh
uhhh, now wait a minute, i know what you're thinking..
but no, this is not about pr0n
something like an expanded version of my very first idea
MUSEUM / ART GALLERY (10k to enter, so it's not about 'getting rich' either, as 10k is nothing here, but 10k X 100 people/viewers is nice incidently, hehe, easier than making sigs for cash?)

and as i said; i'd be willing to pay real world money for something like that
why? hehe.. well maybe that would be explained somewhat in my very first art exhibition
..would you pay a measly 10k to find out?

note: such a gallery would require expanded text content (so the images could be explained) ..so maybe it'd become a kind-of forum hybrid page? people could even leave comments, that would be awesome... the impetus of this idea i suppose is born from forum posting, having debates with people and things like that..
it would also be required that when someone pays to view, they can come back and view again/post again.. so, in other words, the user (myself in this example) pays small real world moneh to have a private subforum thing, platform to reach a wider torn audience, and that audience also pays (but with little amounts of torn cash) ..it becomes something like an auto weeding/sorting process also (or pay to troll)

to me.. it's like.. i come to these forums sometimes, like other websites i used to visit, and of course there's these topics/sections where people have debates etc... hehe.. well.. after studying some of the associated material for so long, this shit people like to "debate" about.. i went to upload some image material and attempt to link to forums here to provide insight into various areas of these 'debates' (nothing major yet) but that did not work, i did link to some off-site images in other areas of the forum, but the idea is to be able to present a heavy/intense series of material for viewer consideration, study and ongoing analysis. that is not something i would be prepared to do 'for free' in a public forum? the life i lived.. hmm.. the life i think MANY of us have lived now is more like torn than anything else.. what i am saying is, life is hard, any many of us already know that, we become hard people ourselves in that process.. i just want to run some things by you if you are a hard person, things i think can make you a human being again, because they seem to have made me feel a whole lot better in this messed up world and having to deal with myself and the folly of my youth /shrugs.. hehe, so it's like.. if i was a long time torn player, and you knew me for some of that time, i would've said random things about all this stuff in that time, and you'd either be interested or repulsed, hehe.. why not speed up that whole process and make money off it? torn gets real cash, the gallery owner gets petty game cash if they like by assigning a view gallery price (or leave it at $0), and players get to talk to eachother about the things they're interested in anyway?, oh, and it also makes it easier for all the PRISM surveillance.. win

i just think if there were more things like that here, user-content etc
the game would become way more interesting
it's like other mmo's when they get stale
we just end up hanging around for the friends and enemies we made..

..it always comes back to real people and socializing anyway? /shrugs

today was kind of sad...

a young chav entered global; "usa = sucks" or something he says straight off the bat,
now, something like this is immediately going to ruffle feathers,
so, we spent the next 15-20 mins trolling him
which is cool and all, i mean, like reece from malcom in the middle points out;
"a feud unites the pack and bonds us all in a brotherhood of blood"

but.. for this, i just suggest THE TROLL BRIDGE
which would be a 10 minute chat-ban, but still able to view the chat.

further to this, as a person who at one time in their life "once hated the USA"
i would've liked to eventually be able to "chat" to that person,
..maybe learn something from them, and maybe tell them why things like global hegemony no longer bother me..
/shrugs

..it was fun though

the self-policing here is very effective, a little more 'power' would be useful, (but power corrupts)
it would be effective to give responsible members such as maxheadroom, hill007 and some of the others some kind of chat-ban power potential there? ..like requiring 3-4 members to click the 'troll bridge' button and effectively silence some of these chavs that come in looking for a reaction..

I don't like the idea of giving random people banning powers. Sometimes their values are misplaced. Sometimes the herd is wrong.
Example:
8 players are playing at a poker table. The table starter goes "hey I want to play a 6 man game. I'm gonna kick off the 2 new guys." Everyone agrees. Kick kick. Instant mug fest. The game rules still say 8 max so more players join. Table start kicks the 2 guys and a new mugfest happens.
No one stands up and fights the table starter. Just mob rule all the way. Everyone agreed because they feared a kick themselves. Then someone speaks up. The whole table yells at him and says to stop whining.

Who's right? Clearly not the mob. If the rules say 8 max, and you want to play a 6 max player game, change to a 6 max table. Don't just kick people out to the muggers when the table says 8 max and you feel like playing 6.

As you can see, if the responsible people are given power, corruption may happen. Even with a mob. Mobruption. And when it does, there won't necessarily be any repercussions for fear of the mob turning against you.

We already have chat moderators in the form of the guys with red names. They have very strict rules to follow when issuing chat bans and we should keep it that way.

I agree with your other suggestions though. More stuff for the lower level players would be cool. The game doesn't really get awesome till you hit level 15. Lots of new guys quit before then.

these things tend to sort themselves out and add flavor to the game, i suppose.
in any case i'm happy to amuse myself with these things

ok, more shit again...

i heard WW is being updated for next year or something..
but here's my thoughts on a WORLD WAR EXPANSION

a mini version of the torn air-travel system incorporating 'war' type crimes and OC's,
basically something like this;

the existing +2 for win, -1 for loss might have to be upgraded to a +5/-2 or something (to scale-in the associated activities and results here)

the 'travelling' involved for these missions would be interrupted by a successful attack(leave,mug,hosp) so the idea is to attack and disrupt these non-attack activities

solo activities
pick up ammo (30 mins) 10 energy cost
pick up weapons (60 mins) 25 energy cost
suicide mission (2 hours) 50 energy cost
(stuff along those lines, but the added bonus of the whole 'travel time' is the person 'sells' the ammo/weapons for a small profit /that'd just be automatically handled on a successful activity completion.. maybe also earn +1 for WW team this way too.. the suicide mission might reward some cash and/or an item?)

organized activities
plant explosives (2 hours) 25 energy cost
skirmish (4 hours) 50 energy cost
black-ops (8 hours) 100 energy cost
(and so on, money and/or items could be rewarded for completing these ones? maybe earn +2 for WW team for these ones?)

could also make a mission that give a bonus for cumulative kills (eg: sniper, 2 hours, each stacked kill increases the little end-reward thing)

eh, anyway... variety is the spice of life

oh, and with the little scaled reward system.. (currently i'm getting like $300+ for a quick robbery and similar things, this is just shit) ..there needs to be a little 5%-10% chance per 'reward check' to gain a little extra, ..like 10x the amount, or a little bonus item.. even just some shit like a medkit.. and don't leave the rnd bonus item itself as just as medkit, go the extra mile and toss in a further 5%-10% chance of getting something spiffy like a FHC or somethin'

promoting employee activity and giving something to do at torn..

..have teams randomly select other teams
play over maybe 1 week
just little links like for a pitcher, might be;
screwball, curveball, whatever
and a batter might have a link like;
run to 1st, run to 2nd, run to 3rd and so on...
the 'random' attack (pitch vs. swing) could maybe play out like
some kinda paper-scissors-rock system?

someone has probably mentioned this by now..
first time playing poker tonight, started thinking..
some kind of stupid yu-gi-oh type card game
with cards that are found like random items
and assembled into a deck
then play in a room like poker

..doesn't have to be hard-core coded
could be very simple
like some various battle-type cards
ie: (card characters)
ched wizard (with a point value)
mack the knife (with a point value)
big al's battle bot (etc)
and a few 'misc' type cards

trade cards, win them in games, stuff like that?
