This is just an idea, but I think it'd be neat to add a basic mentor system for new players.
Sorry if this was suggested before, I couldn't find it. I really think this could expand the playerbase, as well as make new players feel welcome. I actually thought of this as I was helping out a new player today. A lot of them feel helpless when they join so they just end up abandoning Torn..

Mentors would be trusted players ONLY to prevent multi abuse. They would have to be applied for and hand selected.

How it would work:

1. When a new player joins, they would randomly be selected a mentor from a list.
2. The mentor will do whatever he can to help out the new player.
3. The player will have a list of simple goals to achieve. Such as 100 of each gym stat, or 200 in one stat, etc. Could be anything chosen.
4. When the player meets a goal, s/he and the mentor will receive a small reward.
5. At a certain level, a slightly better award will be given and the mentorship will end.

This could be as complex or as simple as you'd want it to be. I think it would be a great addition to Torn.

The one major, unsolvable problem here is that the only players who are required to conform to a code of conduct in terms of their game play (over and above adhering to the basic rules of the game that everyone has to follow) are staff - some players might even say that's not the case with them either but that's neither here nor there.

For that reason I doubt that there will ever be an organised / sanctioned "mentor" system put in place because there's no real way for admins to enforce any sort of code of conduct you might want to place on the "mentors" themselves in terms of them actually supporting the new player in a reasonable and appropriate manner.

I'm not talking about just the issue of doing this for multies either - in the eyes of a new player their "mentor" slacking off and not really paying them any attention would be just as bad and I'm certain that staff would not want to be handling disputes between new players and their officially sanctioned mentors.

How bout just a mentor guiding them? don't have to be spending too much .after all , it's just to help newbies go along the right track.
To make this more challenging and fun, why not have this mentor-student record where students are compared with one another, and the top 5 every 30days or so are awarded with something small or merit, as well as the mentor. This makes mentorship more effective and worthwhile. So the more effort and time and money spent by the mentor, the better their students will become and the higher chances of getting some merits or something
