Hey so I know there have been a lot of suggestions for Companies 2.0 and I tried to find an original thread but anyway here's my suggestion:

When updating companies, there should be more companies that will affect the stock market prices of certain things, e.g. TV companies influence share price of TC Media, new companies such as Record companies influence share price of TC Music, farms influence share price of Grain Industries etc.
It would also be easier to code the algorithms for the share prices.

Though it is probably important to say that the profits from these companies are the influence of the share prices, not the gross income. This would also help cut down on companies giving ludicrous wages.

Just food for thought, it makes sense to me. If you guys think it's a bad idea or it's too much to change then that's fine too.

The first thing to think about with every suggestion is how this will be exploited, because as players, thats what we do. While this wouldn't work with the very popular companies, some companies types have a small number of companies. Directors could collude to drive down the price of the linked stock through poor management, buy up as many shares as possible, then start running their companies properly again, stock rises, dump shares. Repeat.

This is true and a valid point, but players exploit stock prices anyway by busting everyone out of jail, buying lots of computers, investing massive amounts in the bank after they buy shares etc.
There will always be exploitable parts of the game, just like there will always be exploitable parts of life. It's just an idea that makes the stock market a bit more interesting. Thanks though I didn't even think of the exploits
