My suggestion is to add a market for players to lend money to each other with interest rates that the person loaning can set. It would only be accessible for players who are level 10 or above to reduce the chance of multi abuse. If you had a loan then the amount due each day would automatically be taken out of your money (like property upkeep) to ensure that the person who loans the money will always get paid back.
There are many other ways to abuse this system besides using multiple accounts.
#1 Involves a friend that's going to be inactive, or quitting.
-Loan said friend all of your money
-Friend sends money back in form of items/points/stock/etc...
-Friend goes inactive indefinitely
-Sit back and collect automatic payments until amount is paid back
-Rinse and repeat until desired amount of income is generated.
It's also an easy way to essentially manufacture money since the system is creating the money to pay back the debt from nothing.
#2 If you don't start with a system that forces players to go into debt to payback the money owed then there is no incentive to ever pay it back. One could conceivably scam many different people by borrowing money from them and redistributing it amongst friends. As long as those friends purchase all necessary items for the scammer he never has to hold any money in hand.
Bottom line is that there are too many ways to manipulate a system of that nature, and the potential positive use is nowhere near enough to outweigh the negative.
People would just take a loan and buy a fully upgraded PI with it and never give it back...
And if you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all, to be a rock, and not to roooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllll!!!
