I was thinking home lame some viruses are for playing later on, and they are typically not too good so I was thinking a use of viruses beyond for crimes.
Simple virus: You would choose a player to "send" the virus. Then the player may receive an event "Someone sent you a simple virus, they have ordered $1000 worth of products in your name. $1000 has been deducted from your money."
Polymorphic Virus: Ok chance of bypassing simple security measures. This virus would have the event "A virus has destroyed some of your education data, you will have to rewrite that report, it will take you an extra day to complete your current college course. (If you are in one)." If not the event would be "Someone tried to send you a Polymorphic Virus, luckily no important data was lost."
Tunneling virus: An event would be received after the player tries to travel. "Someone changed your flight tickets, instead of going to "xxxxx" you found yourself on your way to "yyyyy". (The virus coder would get to choose." If they have a pilot and airstrip it would read "You find yourself in the wrong country after your pilot dropped you off, you realize it must have been a virus that changed your flight order with your pilot."
Armored Virus: You would only be able to choose a director, they would receive the event immediately. "Someone has sent one of your wonders an armored virus, some of the company's computers have been infected and "$xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" has been stolen." (Decrease in effectiveness and some money would be taken.
Stealth Virus: This virus would have the option to increase time of investment of a player they would receive an event. "You look at your bank investment time, and realize it is longer than it should be, you call the bank to complain, they deny anything is wrong. You realize it must have been Armored Virus to get through your personal bank account." There would also be a small chance to have it transfer money in this case it would have the effect "You go to take out your investment, it seems a bit less than you expected, upon further notice you see "$xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is missing from your withdraw, you realize this must have been a stealth virus, and wonder who you made mad enough to do it.
There would be certain levels of protection available. Three different "virus" protections. As well as the company stock special would prevent 100% the armored virus.
The following would be able to be coded the same as a regular virus, and would be unlocked with the education courses.
Simple Antivirus- This device once used will offer you some protection for 7 days, until the next update when you have to repurchase, or remake. Takes 7 days to code.
Self Updating antivirus: Offer medium protection against viruses, Takes 30 days to code. This virus will be destroyed in the case of a strong virus infecting the computer.
Prototype Top Secret Antivirus and Firewall: Takes 90 days to code, offers very good protection against viruses. Does not need to be updated, but as a prototype is prone to occasional problem. May need to be recoded if these occur.
Only one antivirus can be in use at a time.
Even a simple virus has a chance of stopping a stealth. Just better is stronger protection.
Viruses would have a cool-down.
Any thoughts? Nothing here is set in stone and the xxx's for money don't mean that many digits, I just held down the x key.
Okay, i really like this idea but you might just want to rethink the tunneling virus one because in big faction wars people avoid retal by flying to mexico, but when the enemy sees that this is going to happen they just send the them to south africa, therefore making it a faction weapon instead of it meaning to be a funny prank on your friend.
R+ anyways for some nice ideas

The sending to different country would have to be done before they hoped onto the plane. In big wars they run as soon as they hit. There would be some use in wars with this, but could be avoided by telling the people who will retal to travel right before. Mainly I like this because if someone is a scammer people can do this to them to mess up their travel plans, or if they keep running, you could send them to a location you will be waiting in.
I remember when I was new and coded a virus, then asked a helper : "Does the 'send' button send the victim the virus or a copy of it in a disk?" and they replied: "It sends them a copy, but that's a very good suggestion!"
So glad you posted this

I feel like this idea could get severealy over-used and might piss off ALOT of people that relay on the bank's investment services to fulfill their drug habits. Maybe if the cool-down timer was like a week or something long like that, would it be fine. Cause i know if i was being harassed by someone (or many people for that matter) taking my hard earned money i placed in a safe bank account or even that kept changing my flights from switzerland to South Africa everyday so i couldn't rehab on a regular basis, i'd be seriously pissed.
It would make sense to me that it takes an education coarse to learn how to program these viruses, but i do not like the idea of having to go through education courses to protect yourself. You should be able to buy these kinds of anti-viruses in the city so you could use them on yourself without having any problems with others ruining your day without you wanting them too.
I do like the idea of viruses messing with people. Would be significantly better then stupid bounting people. Bounties are starting to become pointless these days, unless someone wants to dish out alot of money to bounty someone to the point where they use up all their med-items cool-downs. and even then they need only wait an hour to use another med item to get out of the hospital. The idea that flights can be changed with a virus or possible hurting a companies popularity or effectiveness if they are a director is a good idea in my opinion. Its just, you should have an easy way of protecting yourself and the cool-down timers need to be really long so they are not over used on one person. Could really make someone stop playing the game if they are constantly getting switched flights to South Africa from the same person. Now, if others joined in, thats a different story. The person must have really done something bad for a whole group of people to switch their flights to ruin their day. A sure-fire way to get rid of the average druggy scammer out there.
Rate + for most of the ideas. Needs some more revising though..
I love this idea, truly, you have a few references of armored virus out of place, especially in the stealth virus section, but i would just love to see this happen, they're all pretty brilliant.
I think maybe some computer edu's could increase resistance to this in addition to the anti-virus ideas. and possibly even that BB that does it which it's name escapes me right now. the Simply virus seems kind of weak sauce, but it is a simple virus, perhaps it could be a random amount of money from 500-25k or so to keep it competitive or else i wouldn't really see many people taking the effort just to burn out a tiny bit of cash from an opponent.
Same kind of thing w/ the Polymorphic virus but it's OP imo...I don't really like messing w/ edu but if you're dead set on it...it should really do about 6-24 hours because there is a point where just resetting the edu would be more prudent, and that level of harassment is kind of harsh in general for a relatively simple virus to program. I'm not a big fan of messing w/ edu though, perhaps it could corrupt anti-virus instead?
Tunneling would be annoying as shit D: I think it should only have a chance to proc instead of always allowing the coder to send their target somewhere. maybe a base of 75% proc rate before modifiers so it goes down to about 30%... Even better though is if it just extends time by a small amount
Armored is pretty intense, but it is slow to code that virus so that's kind of fair, perhaps it should either damage effectiveness OR steal some money but that may be a bit OP to do both, and they have to deal with enough as it is. perhaps it would be ok as is as long as the BB that protects them also covers armored viruses too, but idk, still seems a bit excessive imo.
Instead of Stealth being used to hurt others, why not use it to benefit and reduce your own or others' bank time? but doing so could come with risks, i think it could make a market for coders/virus users, especially if companies/edu's were changed to become modifiers for this update. Or perhaps computer related crime exp has an affect?
All-in-all, i think this is a really great suggestion and i know it's alot easier to criticize than to develop an idea but i hope you take it into consideration all the same, hopefully you fine tune this brilliant suggestion.
I do like the idea, and additional uses for items is always great. A slightly seedy, criminal edge to it is also exciting. We just need to make sure they're not too powerful. They should be an annoyance, not a severe blow.
