-50% chance the opponent runs away? Really? With people going for the runaways perk, this is hardly a bonus at all. It would be worth as a bonus on some of the non-bachelor courses, IF it is toggle-able - for example, Marathon Running, which currently gives +3% speed. Acrobatics can then be changed to give +4% speed (from 1%), so that everything else remains pretty much the same. And, most importantly, we need a good bonus for Bachelor of Health Sciences. For example, +3% to all battle stats.
In summary:
- Acrobatics (module from Health Sciences) changed from 1% speed bonus to 4%;
- Marathon running changed from 3% speed bonus to -50% chance of opponent running away;
- There is an option to turn off the bonus above;
- After the change is made, the bonus is off by default for everyone, so that the upgrade is not intrusive. However, once you finish the course, the bonus is on by default;
- The bonus of Bachelor of Health Sciences is changed to something else, I have two suggestions, but anything would work, as long as it is actually useful.
Suggestion 1: +3% to all battle stats. Or +2%, but this might be too low.
Suggestion 2: +50% chance of you running away from your opponent. It doesn't have to be exactly 50%, but it seems about right. And yes, -50% of your opponent running away means they have only 50% of their normal chance, and +50% means you have 150%, so if both you and your opponent have this on, you will have 75% of your normal chance to run away. Sounds imbalanced?
And yet it isn't. If there was an item that reduces the target's money by 20 mil, how much would it cost? 20 mil? Probably more like 1mil, because you don't gain anything by making your opponent lose. However, if this item was very widely used, it would be worthwhile to pay anything less than 20 mil in order to prevent a single use of that on you.
Same about runaways. Even if warring, you have very little use of preventing someone from running away from you. In fact, runaways are much harder to gain than losses, so arguably you'd prefer then to run away. And yet, it is usually better for you to run away, rather than losing. The conclusion is that it's better for both you and your opponent if you run away, and some people would even pay to convert some of their losses to runaways.
Of course, those are just suggestions. My main idea is to remake the bonus, because I find it useless.

While I agree that the bonus is now a double-edged sword (Increased # of defends, Decreased # of runaways), I dont think an option to disable the bonus for the purpose of helping people to get the runaways merit is the answer.
It would be equivical equivilent to turning off your speed.
Buying runaways isnt a programmed game mechanic, its more of an explotation of one in order to get merits faster.
Another solution might just be to nerf/reduce the number of runaway merits.
Increased ability to run away from your opponent.. might be a better solution.

We're not talking about buying runaways here, but any source of runaways. My main point is that currently, the bonus is pointless at best - even if you're not going for the runaway merit.
I believe that the disable option is important, because too many people are wanting to get the merit anyway. At this point, it doesn't matter whether merit hunting for a particular merit is intended by the game, the point is that many people are doing it.
