Just like any other forums out there, we should have the ability to rate people's comments up!
You can easily get high forum rates now just for posting anything! The score atm don't reflect whether your posts are great in general or not! They only say that you post a lot period. For everytime someone gets a positive rate on their comment, it should say that +99 likes this or this guy/girl got x number of votes for his/her forum comments overall.
Something that else that would be interesting is having ranks for people who are active on the forums. For example, new to the forums, forum addict, forum master, guru, and so on.. It would be a nice idea and people would be more active on the forums this way
Just a thought so let me know if you think it's a good idea or not!

While I like the idea of "forum god" title I see no reason to attempt to give ratings any real value.

only value they have is in suggestions and also for forum guides but aside from that completely pointless
as for the suggestion no because it would only be good for forum trolls and I kind of think it would entice flaming from those who actually give a shit about forum scores.
I'm bumping/seconding this. I don't see why people are so down on the idea. Encouraging forum trolls? Has anyone ever been to another forum? It's a pretty standard feature, and it works really well in most places. In fact, torn forums are the most trollish I have ever seen. That may have to do with the variety of the user base more than a lack of rating system, but still, it seems like something easily coded that would make the forums better. I don't see the objection.
It's been probably 10 years, but I used to be pretty active on the machinma guys, RoosterTeeth's forums, and they had a "karma" system in which you gained (and lost, but at a much lower %) karma levels through ratings. I don't know that all that is necessary, but it would be nice to be able to rate individual posts with a reason. To keep it from getting out of hand, you only had a certain number of rating points to give out, and you would earn more by either getting positive ratings on yur posts or general activity. To rate, there would be options like +1 funny, +1 zing, +1 cool, -1 lame, -1 WTF, etc.

I like the idea of titles for posters.
Maybe:
Under 100 posts = Newbie
100-500 = Beginner
501-999 = Novice
1000-4999 = Forum Addict
5000-9999 = Forum Magician
10000 and over = Forum Guku
Only downside, it could lead to spamming.
forum ranks = entice spamming by idiots and create more problems than its worth
rating posts = not really that useful and a waste of time to code and will mostly be used by forum trolls.

You can say that all you want, but its actually very easy to code, a nice feature, and something that pretty much every other established forum has in some form or another.

of the many forums ive been on they don't have that feature

I won't list them specifically, but I frequent a writers forum, a machinma forum, a rpg forum, and this one. Torn is the only one without individual post rating in some form or another, and frankly torn is the most trollish one.

I'd also have a character requirement, minimum of 20 so "bumps, smilie faces, even blank quotes" couldn't be rated.
Positive posting could be rewarded with an award/merit, I wouldn't have them for the totals you have mentioned but a positive 10k would be a tough one or even 25k. Probably only a few staffers who help nubs out with questions would bag them but I don't see any harm in that.
Anyone coughing up payments in the forums or even their profiles for +1's could all be added to a list where everyone if they can be arsed to negs them.
