I would like to see the "fifth" stat instead of this. That stats may be called fighting and you gain it only throuh attacking(only hosping in my mind....). And that fifth stats play a part in the attack you make and the times you get attacked but the thing about you gaining a total new set of stats and you can choose where to use it i beleve to be nonsense.
I love this idea and suggested the exact same thing a long time ago. You went into more detail though...
I think your first option is the way to go as the second would be a nightmare to implement into the current system.
I also don't think that your main goal of having the fighting exp be in par with gym training is the way to go. Battle stats are too ingrained into the game to deviate from it. However I definitely think it should play a role in fighting. Not only will it help increase the desire to war but will introduce a whole new aspect to the way the game is played.
I definitely think Ched should consider this when rolling out Attacking 2.0
Edit: I also think it should only apply to hosping only because mugging and leave already have their incentives in place i.e. money and leveling exp
