Hello everyone.

Executive Summary follows, time is money after all:

What:
Change the bought price calculation when using the 'stack' option, giving the average price of the stocks bought instead of quoting the current price of the stock.

Why:
Because then we can see total value of our stock, and whether we'd sell with overall profit or loss if we sold right now.

Ease of Implementation:
Theoretically very easy (I think, I'm no Database programmer after all ;D )

How:

When using the stack option in my stock portfolio, instead of setting the newly created stack to the current market price, use the average of prices at which the stocks where bought; the information is already in the database after all.

E.g.: Stock A, bought t(A), number of shares 100, bought price 100$ -> value = $10,000
Stock A, bought t(B), number of shares 200, bought price 150$ -> value = $30,000

---> Stack Stock A

Stock A, number of shares 300, bought price X$ -> value = 40,000

calculation for X, performed by stack option: X = (100*100+200*150)/300 = 133.333333

So in summary you want the average price of all the bought stocks in that stack
And i think its a good idea also it would help keep track of profits

If you should downrate this idea, please state a reason if possible, i'd like to know why this idea is not good. I could then perhaps improve on the idea. thank you

Simple but elegant. I'd have to agree it would make me take another look at stocks since that was what turned me off from them.

Yes - I recently sold all of my stocks so I can get my last upgrade on my PI but I really have not got a clue if I made money or lost it as I bought it piece meal and kept stacking it together.

It would have been nice to know how much I made (or most likely lost) in the deal

When simple, logical suggestions like this don't get implemented it just reinforces the belief the game developers, staff, and player committee don't read or care about the suggestions forum.

One thing you havent considered, is what about stocks bought through trades?

Massive flaw in the idea really..

I think you need to reread the suggestion. Stocks acquired through a trade still have a price. When stacking two or more lots of stock it should post the weighted average price of your acquired lots rather than whatever the price is at that moment.

A little birdy has told me this has been done now - can someone check it to see if the revised share price is being calculated properly after stacking and get back to me with the results (whether they be correct or incorrect).

I'll need the details of the smaller blocks being stacked (share counts and buy prices for each block) as well as the details of the new block after stacking.

Easy to test:

Bought 1 share of TCB at $793.362
Bought 1 share of TCB at $793.061

You have stacked all 2 TCB shares in to a single block.

It now shows I own 2 shares at $793.210 (Current price at time of stacking $792.654)

WELL DONE!!! Thanks for getting this suggestion implemented.
