As I spent a fair amount of time writing this up in another post, probably deserves a thread of it's own:

As a UK citizen, this is one military strike I support. This entire thing is about a natural gas pipeline wanting to be built from Qatar through Syria, Turkey, to central Europe. And guess who is rejecting the pipeline, and guess who is protecting them. Yes, Russia currently monopolizes the gas import business into Europe, with 3 giant pipelines directly from Russia to Europe. For a while Qatar has been wanting to sell gas to Europe and Europe has been eager to buy (since Russian gas is expensive, and Qatar has extremely large reserves of untapped natural gas), because Qatar can't sell to any of it's neighbours, Saudi Arabia has plenty of gas and minerals, it won't buy from Qatar, other neighbouring countries are too small to really put the effort into providing gas for them. The only place Qatar can sell that gas too is, Russia, at very low prices. And guess what Russia does (many other countries i.e. Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan are forced too sell their gas very cheaply to Russia, because there is no one else nearby to sell to). And guess what Russia does with it's cheaply bought natural gas, you got it, it sells it to Europe.

Nothing illegal is going on, that bastard Putin is the entire problem here. Qatar just wants to sell natural gas to Europe, but Russia is preventing this from happening since Russia and Syria are very close allies. And if no strike occurs, Putin and Syria win. Europe loses if no attack.

Whilst I generally disagree with any wars, I do think Asaad's should be put under arrest for violating international laws, whilst it may not have been him who launched the chemical attacks (possibly a provocation from Saudi/Qatar funded rebels) but the fact is, in the world's eyes it was Assad who did it. So why has Obama taken so long to act, one week ago he was ready for the attack, and now he is backing away. He has taken too long to attack, and the US public is now heavily against it, whereas when the chemical attacks occurred, that instant there was a majority favour of US intervention. Sad really, Obama took too long to act, and he lost the window to attack. Europe is too disjointed to ever launch any sort of allied attack. And since most of the population of Europe don't know what the real reason for entire crisis is, they go back to their basic thinking of "war is bad".

Where is the country that acts as the "world police" when you actually need them. Unlike most previous wars, this one isn't about stealing resources from another country. You may ask, why is US helping when they wouldn't profit from receiving the gas.
Their objective probably is to weaken Russian economy by reducing exportation of gas to Europe, which is a significant contribution to the Russian economy. Establishing military bases around Iran, Syria is the last country around Iran which doesn't have one. And other stuff related to Israel.

Russia is a energy superpower and they want to maintain that position.

It would be good for western europes economy for that pipeline to be built.

It all depends on how far russia are willing to push this, i think they will remain stubborn on this for months at least.

The gas = to be more independent from russian energy supplies, Poland was planning to build (I dont know if there is a word for in in english) kind of gas port - so a harbour used stricly for tankers carrying gas from mentioned by OP countries, and few others countries too.
Funny fact is that transporting it and investition itself will be very expensive, but still it will be more profitable in the long run than getting gas from Russia.

But on Syria itelf.
As independent state should not be attacked by any 3rd party, unless there are very clear evidence that regime commit crimes against its own citizens (which can be classified as crimes against humanity) or use force to war with any other state.
Its Syrias interior problem.

What amaze me is why UN didnt order civilian evac from war zones (on a side, maybe whole Syria is now a war zone, no idea)

All Russia would have to do is drop the price of gas below the price the harbor could produce it, bankrupt the operation and then raise prices.
This harbour would need the support of a powerful oil/gas producing country or organization.

They wouldnt - you know why?
We, Ukrainians and few others nation in general dont like Russians (so even hate them). So even if they were generous enough to give us gas on very good price - we would reject the offer, as they would raise the price of gas like 10 years later.

There are other reasons the Russia want to keep the yanks out of there also but I totally agree with you. Gas is one of the main reasons.
But if the US invade and fix this problem wouldn't that damage the well needed growth Russia needed. Balance could be lost and this could end up worse that they were before.

For someone who's so critical of America, Now your going to cry because we aren't dropping everything on our plate to rush to your aid?

The reason the "public" is against rushing into Syria is because we think "our government" would be better suited spending "our tax dollars" benefitting "our own country" instead of destroying & rebuilding everyone else's for once. (can't speak for "everyone" but that's my opinion)
For a super smart brainiac who likes to insult others on their intelligence, would have figured you could put 1+1 together & see that for yourself.

If the reason we do go in is justified for using chemical weapons then that's 1 thing. But if you just want us to rush in because you want cheaper gas, .

& then in turn when its done you can go about telling us dullard barbaric oaths we are,who care about nothing else then protecting our many many fweedoms .

How about you get up off your overly critical candy ass & do it yourself.

I kind of thought the same thing. anytime America gets involved in anything we are immediately the bad guys. but when someone wants us to and we cant/wont we are still wrong somehow. I find it interesting that the rest of the world feels they should be able to tell us when its right and wrong to get involved in the global events.

personally I say feck Syria, feck Russia, feck your cheaper gas. when our schools quit being closed, our police quit getting laid off, when our cities quit filing bankruptcy, our jobs see a considerable growth, families can again afford to pay for basics then maybe, maybe we should consider helping those who flame us every chance they get.

Yes whilst your population may generally be that, this is the one case if US actually did something, it wouldn't be for illegal motives. That is probably the reason why Obama has taken so long to act.

But don't worry, recently I've read Israel is getting involved as well. Guess US as their #1 ally will be forced to take action soon. I can sense Israel, stirring something up.

so attacking Iraq for oil (which is what the accusation was) is illegal but attacking Syria so you can have cheaper gas isn't....and I like since you would benefit its a 'for once' situation.

I don't usually take the time to do this. But in your case i'll make an exception. Rated -

Don't even waste your time trying to debate with him Tolshorte.(well you can if ya want lol) You allready know where his intentions are, & his words speak for themself.

*I will criticize America & her citizens every chance i get, But when i want something i'm going to cry like a lil bitch until they give in. Because i know good & damn well if i want cheaper gas, I need the mighty "America f**k yea" powerhouse to go to bat for me & hit another homerun.*

This of course doesn't apply to all Brits. I've met quite a few on here that are very cool people. Just referring to these overly arrogant asswipe types that love to criticise, but when it comes time to see what you brought to the table, You ain't got jack shit to back it up.

No worries though. Like he allready said. Israel has chose to involve it self, & Obama has allready been re-elected. So of course we'll most likely sacrifice more American lives & resources, so appreciative people like Astral can appreciate cheaper gas prices.

civil wars are tricky business ... by the time they sort themselves out Azeri gas will be flowing in through turkey/greece/albania/italy .. that should hold europe until the mess in syria is solved so no rush

although the gas i use flows in through morroco so i guess the gas from qatar won't make too much of a difference any time soon

I actually don't pay directly for gas, it's usually included in my accommodation (so I wouldn't profit from cheaper gas anytime soon). But we in Britain have reasonable priced gas anyway to due direct imports from Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands. I was merely stating the reason for this Syria business not being illegal, and why US would still benefit if they did intervene (as clearly they won't receive Qatar's gas).

Anyway I find it funny. On Sky news today morning, I see 4 men. 3 belong to superpowers; US, China, and Russia talking to each other, and then you see the Israeli President along with the 3 discussing. Such influence from such a seemingly insignificant country.

And if any of you Americans even keep up to date with the news, your Sec of Defence had a live meeting with Israel's Sec of Def today, and guess who is "indirectly" pushing for military action. Israel plays the innocent card, "they may launch chemical attacks on us in the future".

And did anyone else hear about the chemical weapons being analysed by UN today, the UN report released states that Asaad's chemical weapons have links from production in Russia. So Russia is supplying Syria with chemical weapons, which was obvious, but now it has been officially stated as being perhaps probable.

I sense a war coming.

Is report directly saying "weapons were brought to Syria by Russians for the Assad" ?
Or is it "weapons were produced in Russia and later were used by Assad" ?

Cause if 1 - what you said is right
if 2 - Your 2nd sentence is wrong.

If you still doubt:
If I buy AK47 from black market and kill someone in idk. China - does this mean Russia supplied me with it?
Cause it was produced in Russia, probably some russian mobsters brought it and sold it, and I aquired it from non russian source...

I didnt read the report, I probably wont as I still think its their interior problem in the first place (plus I have some more important stuff that I need to read :/) and if we want international aid, let it not be an attack, but only help with evacuation of civilians from war zones.

alright hold it there, we were accused of going into iraq and shit just for oil...which everybody said was wrong...yet now that it benefits your country its okay? please, explain how in the hell this makes sense please.

(FYI i dont give a flying f**k about syria and the use of a chemical weapon, whether it be the government or rebels who used it since both sides hate the U.S. and consider us an enemy let them kill each other off is how i think would be the best way to go about it)

Because Russians' have been real successful in the past...

China buys American debt to strengthen it's own exports and currency value. If USA stops importing Chinese sh*t,say... today -- what do you think would happen to their economy?

And the economic crisis is global, it would f**k you in the ass before it does to any American. You know... it's one of the perks of being on the top, last one to get f**ked in the ass.

LOL. America is in the dolldrums. The BRICKS, including China of course are doing quite well - whatsit,6% growth per year?
Coincidentally, have you noticed that America is currently 0-4 down in the foreign intervention game?
That Habsburg-Romanov feeling...

Get over yourself. America is not a self-sufficient economy. [That dubious distinction belongs to North Korea.] Like any other nation, America is a slave to the System. And realistically, that how things should be in an integrated global economy. Every Nation playing whatever role is ordained for it by economic realities.

Your absolutely rite. America is the cause for everything bad in the world. & Islamic extremists have played no part in that equation what so ever.

Would you like me to sign my house & first born over to you now, as an attempt to compensate? What will it take to get you to quit hating America & Christianity so bad? If we sign everything we have over to you & cast ourselves off to a baren wasteland, will you be satisfied?

Or must we still die like infidel pigs?
