Okay, so having some banter with my mates between these two on who is the better footballer
They all agree van Persie is the better goal finisher, but claim Torres is the better footballer. I disagree. Anyone got any stats to back this up? eg. pass succession, total passes..

Would highly appreciate it and win me the argument!:P

Thanks!

Van Persie wins both (at current ability)

Torres at his peak during his spell at Liverpool, I'd probably say he'd be better in both, but he's a long way off what he was.

I agree with this statement.

Torres has lost a step due to that knee injury. He is doing fine now, but probably will never be what he was at 22.

If I had to pick one today, I would go with RVP, even though Torres is a bit younger.

Clearly a biased Chelsea fan. He has picked it up recently, yes, but against who? Monterrey, Sunderland, and Nordsjaelland? Those three teams don't mean anything to me. I seem to recall last year Torres as being 'back' before a game at Old Trafford... and then this happened:

Lets give it a few games against respectable opposition before we start jumping to conclusions eh?

Ya you are quite right, he is a Torres's fan or Blue fan. Anyway, apart from lost to Corinthian at Club's World cup, he seem to have better form than last season. Actually he seem lost confidence as he made assists more than he score.

I am a Blue fan too. I hope they can come back from Japan final lost, next week match with Liverpool will be exciting match.

In prime, Torres. Now, RVP. Torres is judged by goals and goals alone. His movement is still quality but he's lost pace and confidence. He looks to have been getting it back recently though and Rafa certainly knows what he is doing. Remember Torres is Chelsea's top goalscorer with 14 goals.

I'll agree that his header against Villa was quality. I need to see him in a few big games to make any call on whether he's 'back' or not. I still have bad memories of him absolutely tearing up Vidic when he was at Liverpool, and haven't seen him play at that level for a long time!

In his first two seasons at Liverpool I don't think there was a better striker in the world than Torres. I have never seen a striker destroy Vidic the way Torres has done.

RVP! RVP! RVP! Any day of the week. As a stiker you are there to score goals, RVP does that, plus loads of there things like clearing headers from the opposing teams corners etc.

Torres on the other hand pahaha. This question would be more debatable if you asked our opinions on who's better out of rooney & RVP

At this present moment you can't really compare. RVP is playing some of the best football of his career over the past 12months, where as Torres has had an awful 12months - Well not awful but below parr.

Torres came to Liverpool and within his first season alone put a podium beneath his name, he was on fire, to be honest through out his career there he was quality. Whilst at Liverpool he was within the top 3 strikers constantly. Scoring back to back hat-ricks and pretty much a goal every game. But since the move to Chelsea it just fallen apart, He properly was worth £50million, but only a fraction now.

His first season at Liverpool : 46 games 33 goals.
His overall games goals at Chelsea to this day : 101 games 26 goals. To compare to his first season at Liverpool his first at Chelsea was 18 games 1 goal.

So relating to the question, Yes RVP right now is better than Torres however if you was to compare when BOTH at there very best Torres would edge it.

Van Persie is a much better striker. The only reason he's getting so much attention now is because during his time at Arsenal he would play phenomenal for half a season and then get badly injured. This is his first real injury free spell so people have finally realised he's actually amazing. Torres has a lot to do to be compared.

I disagree.
RvP is still better than Torres at both peaking.
If you see the opposition take a corner, I guarantee it is van persie who is clearing the ball most of the time. RVP can score some real good free kick, and his close ball touch is amazing he makes controlling the ball look easy, almost like Berbatov.

Robin Van Persie all day, i admit Torres was a better player about 2 years ago, but Van Persie has been brilliant this season recently scoring a hatrick to win the title.

most likely getting the golden boot this season!

It looks like 8 years of poor form and 2 years of brilliance Vs 8 years of brilliance and 2 years of poor form. Van Persie had a goal drought this season, whereas Torres participated so much in the attack and scored a few important goals. His number of goals this season may not be as much as Van Persie, but he doesn't score penalties and offside goals. I would say Torres is better.

Torres hasnt been right since the season before he left liverpool. I am a liverpool fan and remember his weak form for most of the last season he played for us.

Van Persie is a far better player.

Torres just doesnt look right, maybe he is depressed?
