puck the whiners! we've got another showdown coming in seattle.

I am finally on the Russell Wilson kool-aid trip. Kid shows improvement every week. Problem is, our D was "elite" and our passing game sucked...now we can score both ways but our D has gone south.
Seahawks toughest games are whiners at home, at bears, at miami, in toronto for the bills for a shootout.

I agree SF deserves to be in the top 5 right now, but I think (hope) that will change. 'hawks are now the #6 seed with a rookie qb. nfc fans, you better hope we don't move up, because NOBODY wants to come play at Clink.

Anyways, carry on gentlemen...

Random question...how many of you remember when it was only 4 divisions? I have a feeling you are all young bucks lol.

Don't you mean 3 divisions in each conference? Yes, I remember. I was slightly sad when we went from 3 bye weeks to 1 when the Cards left the East.

I pretty much only remember the format as it is now. I was 12 years old in 2001 when there were 3 divisions in each conference, but at that time I was pretty much only a Patriots fan and didn't really care/know much about the league other than who Elway, Warner, Favre, Smith, Moss, TO and Faulk were at that time. in 2002 after they changed the divisions around, that was the first year I actually paid attention to them, seeing as I recall a 3 way tie in the AFC East at 9-7 between NE, MIA, and NYJ... that unfortunately ended the Patriots hope at a repeat.... but I guess I didn't have to wait long for that repeat to come true after that

One of the first games I remember watching, Landry was still our coach. I barely remember it I was so young, but thats when I first started watching and haven't stopped sense. I remember my mom (who got me into football and the Cowboys) cussing up a storm when we traded Walker lol. I was in my teens when the Panthers and Jags first showed up on a video game with just numbers for player names AND I collected the Tombstone pizza NFL Pogs.... Yep.. I'm an old fart too lol.

Well yeah, Chicago has a great defense no doubt about it. But we haven't seen it really tested yet, but that's not their fault. But we've seen Cutler have some shitty games that his defense picked him up in, so until we see Chicago beat a high scoring offense, or we see Cutler light up another stingy defense... I'm not sure I trust them. Cutler can kill a team, any day. He throws way too many picks and he has no accuracy... and not to mention he has terrible field presence and absolutely no leadership. He gets flustered and angered very easily when things start going wrong and I don't think he has it in him to fight through a tough game or climb back from a deficit.

i agree with everything you said, i just have a feeling him and marshall will start to click much better as the season goes on. But to your point of him playing a D thats stingy, he will get a big chance to make you a believer in him this week against the texans.

I have vague memories of Terry Glenn with Bledsoe in Super Bowl 31, but that's about it. I remember the first Super Bowl I actually watched was Super Bowl 34, with that goal line tackle that sealed the game for STL. Only team I remember being newly introduced are the Texans

I remember watching Earl Campbell on MNF. He was the most exciting player I have ever seen.

See the twitter crap that Marcus Vick was posting during the game? Funny stuff. I'm enjoying the Philly meltdown.

Terry Glenn is one of my favorite players so I love that you mentioned him. He spent most of his career in NE with Beldsoe but I loved him... I have like 6 rookie cards of his.... I used to be a huge card collector... somewhat am now but I don't have the cash to back it up.

yeah Glenn is definitely a fan favorite around here, probably second only to Troy Brown in terms of not-incredibly-productive-yet-still-beloved-players from old Patriots teams

Glenn was productive though, he was just injury prone. He did well in NE but he missed too many games. If I recall correctly, he did better with Romo than with Bledsoe and Brady.... just saying..

Lol is it just me or has the use of "just sayin" increased by 220% on these forums within the past 24 hours? But if we want to go down that road, he didn't do better with Romo, seeing as he posted 1,100+ yards three times in his career; once with Bledsoe in NE, once with Brady in NE, and once with Bledsoe in DAL. Coincidentally, he also posted 6 TDs with Brady in NE, once with Bledsoe in NE, and 7 with Bledsoe in DAL.

Oh yeah, he also went to a Super Bowl with Bledsoe in NE and got a ring under Brady... in NE

just saying.

Not fair... Glenn fumbled inside our 10 yard line and ruined the game yet Romo gets the hate... Bullshit....

Lol hey, I'm no politician that flip/flops on my stance! I said I'm tired of talking about him, however, if someone decides to compare him to Brady then I'll be glad to compare him to Brady besides, don't think it's anything unique to Romo in that situation... usually the guy who is the last one to f**k up a major game/championship deciding play is the one who gets the blame while other mistakes get overlooked. Nothing specifically "Romo hating" about that, so much as it is just what happens to every athlete.... or fan in some cases (Cubs).

But the fact Romo gets blamed for it has nothing to do with the fact you think people blindly and wrongly hate on him. I can give you a list of 4examples off the top of my head from Boston sports alone where this has happened:

1986: World Series game 6 against the Mets, Bill Buckner allows an easy ground ball through his legs that, if he picked up and tagged first, would have easily won the game and clinched the championship. Instead, the runner reached safely, the pitcher blew the lead and the Red Sox proceeded to lose Game 7 without controversy. Buckner received death threats and was not "forgiven" or even showed up in Boston again until the 2008 opening day ceremony at Fenway Park.

2003: Grady Little keeping Pedro Martinez pitching late in Game 7 against the Yankees when he had the lead but looked tired. Ended up blowing the lead that inning, yet Grady lost his job next season (after the loss) and Pedro was still beloved and pitched in the World Series the following season.

2007: Ellis Hobbs is labeled the goat in the infamous Super Bowl 42 season after he tripped in coverage against Burress, allowing him to catch the game winning TD with less than a minute remaining. However, on that same drive Asante Samuel dropped an easy pick, Rodney Harrison allowed that damn Helmet Catch, and on that same Helmet Catch play there were two Patriot players who had Eli Manning in their hands and allowed him to break free of their sack on 3rd and long.

2012: Ray Allen has received a lot of criticism for his poor play in the Eastern Conference Finals against Miami last season, and the general mantra is: if he had performed at all, the Celtics probably would have advanced to their 3rd Finals appearance in 5 years. May be true, but Celtics were up 3-2 in the series at home in Game 6 and got blown out, and had the lead at halftime in Game 7.

Not saying Romo didn't contribute to the loss, he epicly failed that hold. I just hated the circumstances around that hold. You have a first year starter who fought tooth and nail to get where they were that season, and fought to overcome Glenns mistake to keep us in that game. For as smart as everyone thought Parcells was, who the hell keeps their starting QB in to hold kicks? You ask me, Parcells, Romo and Glenn all share blame in that loss but IMHO Glenn should get a hell of a lot more than he did. Like I said, I loved Glenn even when he wasn't a Cowboy, but the man should have caught hell.

I think it's just analysts trying to make headlines. The Cowboys are always headline grabbers for, atleast half the time, no reason at all. First it was Bill Cowher rumors seasons ago, then Gruden, Harbaugh, etc just like there are always rumors of every big free agent name out there coming to Dallas. Writers like taking "what if's" and running with it as legit facts just to up their view count and/or ratings.

Payton may have a house in Dallas and may still be on a speaking basis with Jerry, but he didn't exactly leave on the best of terms. He was promised a head coaching job with us when Parcells was about to leave and Jerry screwed him on that. I wouldn't think he'd want to come back after those circumstances. He won the hearts of NO fans and brought a ring to the city. I don't see him walking away after a little turmoil when he's still got a QB like Brees to build around and also has say so out there. With Jerry's recent comments of never letting go of the GM position, I don't think there are many legit coaches out there that would want to come to Dallas and play second fiddle to such a demanding GM/owner.

I see him coaching the Saints again next year. He may prolong a decision to add some numbers to his contract, but he'll be back there next year.

Well, not for nothing, but the Cowboys are kind of drastically in need of some shakeup. Payton is pretty respected, it seems, and his contract with the Saints was voided beyond this season, and I'd have to imagine after missing all of this year he is going to be open to any and all teams willing to take him. New Orleans looks like a mess, and he has nothing else to prove there; he's already won his title with them. Dallas is, let's be real, a better market for football and a chance to take another team to "The Promised Land." He also seems to be pretty much an offensive coach, and perhaps that's why Dallas needs... seeing as they've had more than enough talent on offense to be one of the better offensive teams in the league every year, yet manage not to be somehow.

But I truly don't think it would take much to win the hearts of Dallas fans... just someone who, you know, looks competent and can win some games. Jerry is loaded, and he's feeling the heat. He may never "resign" from his job, but the last thing he wants is to see his 100,000 seat stadium empty, and while Cowboys fans are devoted, if you guys start struggling to win 5 or 6 games a year for a while, at the same time your division rivals are winning Super Bowls and grabbing headlines, I can see a lot of pressure on him to start spending money on players, and Payton could be a perfect fit.

Who knows, we're a long ways away from that ever developing, but I think it'd actually be a step in the right direction for Dallas.

Oh it would definitely be a step in the right direction no doubt. I can't stand Garrett. He's terrible at play calling, time management and coaching in general. Payton would be a HUGE upgrade and would probably have us in the mix of things for the next few years, but I just don't see Jerry swaying him to come back after breaking his word to him befor.

What a weird day in the NFL. I really thought Detroit would have some pride and beat the lowly Vikings, yet they get blown out and end any chance at a playoff berth. And the Giants... what can you say about them? The absolute most inconsistent team in the NFL. God knows why they can't ever get themselves together and string a few wins in a row to maybe give themselves a first round bye... we all know they have the talent to. And finally a nice win for Cowboys fans....

but what I'm really wondering is... SF struggled to stop St. Louis, yet the Patriots blew them out Now, normally I understand "any given Sunday" about the NFL, but I was under the impression the NFC was far and away the better conference, and that SF may be the best team in that conference (or at least interchangeable in the top 3 spots). Interesting.
