I know it's a bit early, but oh well. There's been a good share of news, dilemmas, and controversy going on, so what's the harm.
For starters, what's your opinions on Bountygate? Coach and player suspensions fair/unfair, too harsh, not harsh enough?
Andrew Luck.. RG3? Who do you think does better and why?
Teams 'most likely to succeed'? Vegas has already released odds and opened up betting on Week 2 - Week 16 based on their power rankings.
Happy, unhappy with your teams drafting choices?

first pffft, you get paid millions to play this game, if you cant take a few harder then normal hits give the money back and get the hell out of the NFL
second I would have to say RG3 does better this year, he has more weapons around him better coaches and has a much better defense to help him out.
third i would have to say im pretty satisfied with my team overall, it could have been better but then again im not an expert so i could be wrong with what i think needed to get fixed.

give him some real weapons and he could have an awesome year, but i dont see any on their roster at the moment and dont see any big name WR/TE looking to leave their team at this moment.

Exactly, you get paid from a few hundred thousand, to millions to play this game.. what's a thousand, or ten thousand? I agree everyone who had a major part in it should be suspended, but 16 games is too much.. for Vilma and Payton.. I think 8 games would be cool.
I think RG3 will do very well, especially against the Cowgirls.
I'm satisfied with the Lions draft. They filled most all needs and added another weapon for Matt Stafford, Stafford was dangerous with what he had, and if Broyles is as good, or better than before I see the Lions being an offense threat again, only time will tell if wiill be a great defensive threat, hopefully Avril get it together with his contract, and if Suh and Fairley step it up.. we could be animals on D, especially if the CB's work out well.

5 Team's most likely to succeed. In no particular order.
NFC
1. Packers
2. Giants
3. Panthers
4. Lions
5. 49ers
AFC
1. Patriots
2. Ravens
3. Texans
4. Bengals
5. Broncos
I would add the Saints, but Drew Brees is not signed, they won't have an actual coach till week 8, their head coach to 2013, and one of their LBs until 2013. They have 50-50 chance of making the playoffs IMO.

i think Dallas will win 9 MAYBE 10 games this year, and as for the rest of the NFC east i think it will be a battle between giants and eagles and skins wont do too much, but RG3 will be in the same situation as cam last year, he will be good but still lose.
rest of the league, i think manning and broncos will have another playoff year, jets wont do a damn thing, pats might have another year like their last, steelers wont do as good, ravens wont do as good, saints will be down with dolphins cam will not do nearly as well but panthers will win more games. i think them are all the big teams that have had "big" news, ill have to look and see if i missed any.

Nominee, I've got some problems with your list here
Ravens will not succeed. Last season was their last chance at making a run. They had success because of their defense, but that defense is now old and will not be the same as it used to be.
Denver really was not good last year, and they got 0% better by adding a very banged up, old Peyton Manning who may not even play all 16 games. Their season is riding on his neck and that young WR Thomas, who hasn't proven anything. Maybe they will make a playoff trip again if they can go 8-8 because their division absolutely sucks, but there's not going to be any success out there.
Panthers wont have a great year, they're still at least 2 seasons away from contending... their division is way too hard for them... Newton will probably have another great year, and they are definitely on the right path, but they're not knocking the Giants off, and I think the Eagles will have a rebound season and at least be competitive.

I can agree with almost all of that, especially in regards to Manning and Denver. Also, far as problems with that list, how can you make a list of 5 most likely to succeed without including the Steelers in AFC?

Because the Steelers aren't going to succeed. They lost their RB to a torn ACL and, especially for a RB, that is going to be hard if not impossible to ever return to what he used to be, and we all know the run is a huge part of their game. Roethlisburger also didn't have a very great season. I mean sure he threw for 4,000 yards but 5,000 yards was the mark of the great QBs this year, and there were rookies and 2nd year players who were throwing more than he was, so that 4,000 in 2011 was not as impressive as it was in 2009. He also only threw 21 TDs, which again shows how much they rely on the run, and oh yeah.. they are going to be without Hines Ward, who still had a veteran presence and if anything could help the other WRs get better around him. Also, their defense was not as great as it once was, and they have had some shuffling around of parts in there as well. Both the Steelers and the Ravens will not have great years. I'm sure one of them will make the playoffs, but it probably will end there for them.

Texans might not have a good year depending on Johnson's recovery (he did it once and had his career season but he was younger too). if you listen to ESPN they predict him having another awesome year, but as a guy who doesnt really like players who have semi major-major surgery i think it will affect him negatively.
(the exception of that last statement would be manning, because the reason he was so good really isnt based on his ability to throw awesome passes, it was his ability to beat the D before he ever said hike.)

The Texans have some questions, but their division is weak, and the AFC is weak in general this season. Who is going to knock the Texans out from the AFC South? I don't think they will win the Super Bowl next year, but I think they could make a deep playoff run and end up with a 2 or 3 seed (obviously I have the Pats with the 1 ).
As for Peyton Manning, I just cannot see him finishing the whole year and/or excelling. He is old, he's missed an entire season, and his neck injuries have been getting worse, not better, as he's been having multiple surgeries. He may still have the ability to read defenses, but he may not have the ability to get back up after a big hit, or may tweak his neck trying to throw passes he used to be able to make. No one is arguing his competency at the position, this is a physical barrier we're talking about here, and it's a pretty serious injury. If his neck gets sore and he starts having problems with his nerves, that's not something to play through.

RG3? Who do you think does better and why?

bounty gate i agree with what they did to the coaches and i agree with the half season bans... but the 1 year suspension to vilma i thought was a bit harsh.
RG3 i think is better off, he just more athletic overall, luck is much more of a pocket passer, and these days the qb's who can throw and run are becoming more popular to succeed against defenses.
teams most likely to succeed - im a jets fan but id have to say either 49ers or packers from west... the east... well i like the ravens - think they had a good draft and they have a solid enough team to go far this year.
i liked our first couple rounds with picking up coples (who i hope lives up to the hype) and then we picked up hill, who is a big wide receiver/big target... hopefully use him for red zone. im disappointed they went for a LB and not any of the good OTs left on the board in the 3rd/4th rounds - that bothered me alot. they really trust wayne hunter to come through? effin kidding me? ducasse better step up this year

thats true, but i really dont see much for texans next season. They might have a winning record, but will lose against the steelers and ravens (just like dallas will this damn season). So if they make it to the play offs id give them a first round win but lose the second. Which in my opinion you might as well not go.
I understand the situation manning is in, but i cant help but hope for the best for him. He has been my fav QB ever since his 2nd year starting, and i would really hate to see him depart from the NFL.

I hate how people just recognize the Steelers brand and automatically pencil them into the playoffs and put them as Super Bowl favorites. The Steelers looked OLD last year, and if you think the Texans have injuries, the Steelers had their share of big names missing time and getting banged up. Who knows what really happened to Roethlisburgher's ankle, but it was very apparent that he was in some serious pain, and they also lost their star RB to a similar injury that ended Foster's season. So for you to think Houston will struggle but not think Pittsburgh will, you're crazy. Houston is a MUCH younger team, and will rebound a lot better than the Steelers will.
And you can have all the emotional attachments to Peyton that you want, but that doesn't change the facts, and the facts are: 36, 3 neck surgeries in two season, coming off an entirely missed season, and playing on a shitty team. He will be lucky to finish the year, and if he does, he will be lucky to have a line of 3,000 YD, 20 TD, and 15 INT.

well, if Texans dont get foster to sign on the dotted line that will give them no real threat on offense (if Johnson doesn't recover the way we expect him to). Steelers are in the process of getting younger in some positions (key positions), which will indeed help them, and their defense was still top 10 last year (i think at least).
then look at their schedule, it really isnt all that difficult. I can only see a few of their games really being a problem for them.
1 Sep 09 PIT @ DEN
2 Sep 16 NYJ @ PIT
5 Oct 07 PHI @ PIT
9 Nov 04 PIT @ NYG
11 Nov 18 BAL @ PIT
13 Dec 02 PIT @ BAL
and ravens might not even make that list, it depends on how their D holds up with out suggs, den might not be a problem if Manning doesn't turn out the way i feel he will, giants will most likely choke after a superbowl year, eagles...well really they are just an upgraded version of dallas. (what i mean by that is, they have many players that are better all over the field but can still throw a game away just as fast as they can win it). So really, if steelers have a an average year they can slide into the playoffs with at least a 10-6 record. (didnt post the other games because either the team isnt worth noting or they could be a shock team)
then for your prediction of manning's stats is ridiculous and you know that he would never carry them stats.

I think the Bengals could pose a problem for the Steelers this year, at least when they play in Cincy. Also, don't take the Redskins very lightly either, I think they could pull a few upsets. The Steelers are going into rebuilding mode, and they won 12 games last season because they had a VERY easy fluff schedule and they still lost in the first round to a team that then got it's doors blown off 45-10 the following week. Also, like I said, simply qualifying for the playoffs does not mean success. Sure, Pittsburgh might win the division, but that's because the division sucks. But they will probably be out in the first round again.
In other words, the teams I list as teams I think have a chance at success are the teams I think could at least make the Conference game, if not Super Bowl favorites. If you put Pittsburgh on that list, I feel you're plain wrong. If you put them as going 10-6 with a division berth and losing the first round, maybe... but honestly, 10-6 may even bee too high for them this year. 8-8 might be more like it.

you must remember, im a dallas fan there for a positive record is a pretty good year.
and making it to the first round of the play offs at all just makes it a damn good year.
But, looking at it your way i can agree with you about most of the things you said besides what you said about them damn deadskins. I dont see the team its self having a good year, i see them taking both cowboy games.

He will be lucky to finish the year, and if he does, he will be lucky to have a line of 3,000 YD, 20 TD, and 15 INT. |
agreed they lost to tebow in the playoffs - nuff said lol

If you're going to list some teams who normally suck but could have a good season, that's fine. In that case, I think the Bills will qualify for a playoff spot, and honestly, in the weak AFC, they may actually win a round or two. But the Steelers don't belong in that category, as they are not a team who normally sucks, but this year they will.

The Bengals could become a threat to the entire AFC North soon, Ravens and Steelers are getting old, and the Browns are still a year or two away.. the Bengals are just peaking.

ill say it again since i think you missed it (and i dont think i have ever said it in a football topic before) i agree with what you are saying when it comes to steelers and ravens with the requirements your are using.

I did not miss it, I was providing you a better team that fits more into your description... because, to me, the Steelers aren't normally a team that sucks but may qualify for the playoffs this year. They are the opposite: a good team that will suck this year. So no, even by the definition we both agreed on, the Steelers would not qualify for that, but the Bills would, which is why I offered them as an alternative.
An Nominee, Bengals could be a threat to win the division, but I'm still not very sold on them making much noise in the playoffs. Dalton and Green are a nice combo, but I just don't see them as a serious threat, and they have made the playoffs in 2 out of the past 3 seasons, so simply getting in shouldn't cut it for them anymore. It's time for them to start winning in January, or else they will become the Falcons of the AFC.

I'm not sure what it is, but Green Bay and Dallas fans seem to think anyone gives a damn about whether or not they are "the most popular team."
