I predict the Caps will look like they are on the road to the Stanley Cup all season, and then they will crash and burn in the playoffs... status quo.

Rumors out of Boston that center David Krejci could be trade bait? He's in a contract year, and he's got one hell of an upside...unfortunately he can also get very cold sometimes.
He was pegged to be a great goal scorer with lots of raw talent. Drafted in 2007, he didn't have a breakout year until 2008, when he scored 22 goals and 51 assists on a weak offensive team, good for a team high 73 points. In the Bruins Stanley Cup season, he only managed 13 goals for 62 points.... but the catch here is.. he finally lived up to his hype in the playoffs. After registering 13 goals in 75 regular season games, he scored 12 goals and 11 assists in 25 playoff games. I finally thought he broke through and was going to have a true breakout season of 30+ goals and possibly even break the 100 point barrier... however, he's gotten off to another slow start, managing 1 goal for 1 point in his 8 games played this season, after being demoted down from the first line.
He's definitely an interesting player, and you would think he could excel.. but he's been giving the opportunity... frustrating as hell to watch him play, because we've seen, in spurts, his capability. I'd personally like to see him stay with the Bruins, and get offered a contract extension before the season is over, but I honestly think he might be up for grabs this trade deadline, especially if Seguin keeps up his pace, as he's replaced him on the first line as center, his true position.

too bad the NHL has already had it own lockout.....would have been a nice addition to the list...and the MLB....maybe kids would actually go play the damn sport then

The NBA lockout is going to hurt the NBA drastically. I think the NHL is going to benefit immensley from it, as the country showed they are interested in hockey. In last years Winter Olympics, the US Hockey Team got some pretty good ratings, and the US/Canada gold medal game made a lot of national news here. To follow that up, an original six team (Chiacgo) won the Stanley Cup that season, and the following season another original six team (Boston) beat a canadian team in the Final. The last Stanley Cup had some of the highest ratings since the 1990s, so the sport is only getting healthier, and now with no NBA and the MLB season over... ESPN, SportsCenter, and FOXsports have no choice BUT to talk hockey inbetween Sundays.

oh dont get me wrong, i have nothing against the NHL. I have even been to a capitals game once...i will say its an experience. I just wish there would be 1 year with no sports on TV so kids would be tempted to play the sport more. (or atleast i would like to think they would be)

Of all the problems and reasons that kids don't get enough exercise, sports on TV is not one of them. No sports is not a good thing.. hell, isn't that how most kids fell in love with them anyways? Growing up watching their favorite team/player, and then signing up at some youth league? I don't think a lockout does anything in the area of promoting activeness in kids...

you sure? I mean, theres ESPN, Madden and all the other sports game that come out on a yearly basis....take them away and they dont really get any of the sport they have grown to love (as you pointed out) and would have to go outside to play the sport if they want to enjoy it again.
Yes i realize theres many other things tey could do, play COD, Battle field, gears of war and what not. But as i said, its wishful thinking.

Well played sir, I never expected this argument as why kids aren't outside playing sport. By the way, it's not a compliment, it's retarded.
On topic however and for all the Crosby lovers in the world, I hear he's new date for potentially getting back into a game is Friday 11th?

Someone tell Ryan Miller and the Sabres that there's no crying in hockey! here's his statement to the media after Lucic knocked him down during play (which the NHL did not fine or suspend him for)
"I just want to say what a piece of [expletive] I think Lucic is. Fifty pounds on me, and he runs me like that. It's unbelievable," Miller said. "Everyone in this city sees him as a big, tough, solid player. I respected him for how hard he played. That was gutless. Gutless piece of [expletive]."
What a chump ass.

Of course it's "possible" Lucic could have missed him, but here's the thing... For one, it wasn't 100% certain Lucic would not reach the puck until he was pretty close to him, and Lucic did not skate out of his way to hit the goalie. Miller was far beyond his crease and was playing the puck in the attacking zone, in fron t of a charging forward, and he got run into. If Miller has watched any hockey the past 5 seasons, he will see that if Lucic wanted he could have taken him out for the season.... Lucic gave him a friendly reminder that he's out of the crease. I had no problem with this in the Cup Finals when Vancouver was roughing up Thomas in front of the net, Miller is just being a sore loser.

The best thing about things like this is it gets some emotion and heated discussions about the game on the go.
It'd have been interesting to see if Miller swing his stick around at Lucic had that connected. I imagine things would kicked off pretty big then, that had some venom on it.

I hate to disappoint, but even outside of the crease its against the rules to hit the netminders.

Dim is right, that is one of the most misinterpreted rules in hockey. A goalie is not 100% fair game once they leave the crease, and 99% of the time a ref will call a penalty for roughing if a goalie is hit anywhere on the ice outside the crease/trapezoid. The rule states that if a goalie is in his protected area, any contact with him is goalie interference, but once they wander out of that area they are subject to incidental contact. You cannot check a goalie into the boards if he's out of the trapezoid like you would a defenseman trying to clear a puck. That will still draw a penalty. But if a forward is rushing toward a free puck, and a goalie comes out of the crease to hit it, and the forward bumps shoulders with the goalie and he falls over, most of the time that won't be called for anything, let alone a disciplinary hearing. The only reason it got blown out of context was because Miller completely was knocked on his ass, helmet came flying off, and was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
But yeah, I love the emotion that comes out of it. Gives me more of a reason to get hyped for Buffalo games now, and intensifies a growing rivalry that was sparked in the 2010 playoffs. If Miller had actually connected on that slash, I think Lucic would have received a game misconduct and the both of them probably have to serve a suspension for what would have followed. But really... who the f**k is going to challenge Lucic on Buffalo? And who is going to try and rough up Thomas for revenge?
In the full interest of disclosure... I was at this game

Sidney Crosby makes a big impact return to the ice last night. 2+2 in his first game since January 5th. Gotta admit, that guy is incredible.
That being said, it doesn annoy me that all people do is bum him. For instance, the commentators talk as if he had a huge impact on Orpiks goal. He didn't, he passed the puck for the open man on the point for a one timer.

Of course Crosby is an incredible talent, and of course commentators/media are going to hype up their sport's superstar. Personally, I don't really care one way how Crosby does. I don't have any particular emotions for or against him, other than just a mild disl**** of the Penguins in general. The only good thing I can see coming out of Crosby's return is it will give the NHL some national hype. With basketball on lockout, this is a bg story that the NHL can run with and can promote people to watch games. That's what the sport needs right now, attention.

How 'bout them Bruins?
This week is a rough stretch, as we played @MTL on Monday , @Buffalo today, Detroit on Friday, and Winnipeg on Saturday. I'd love to see us keep this 9 game win streak going.

Well, the game was 1-0 so yes, goaltending played a part and Thomas was also, you could say, important in our Cup run so I'm not sure where you're going with that.
All I know is... the Bruins are on a 10 game winning streak and clawed their way from last place in the conference to 2nd.

Any idea what the current record is for winning streaks? Might look it up. All time and what, the last 10 - 20 years? I imagine there could be a big difference in those considering the change of the game.

Calgary? No.
I was originally a Winnipeg Jets fan as I was born and raised in Winnipeg. The Jets left in 1996 so I moved to liking Detroit, 2011 the Jets returned and here we are.
Either way, fu*k the haters, calgary and boston.

I'm nearly certain you were a Flames fan, and had a flames sig from last year.
And the Bruins record for longest winning streak is 14, and that was set in the 1929 season I'm pretty sure it was. So 10 straight games is definitely somethin noteworthy. We're going to get another big test tomorrow at Detroit. I'm pissed because I work 11:45am-8:00pm so I'll miss the entire game
