So im not getting any sound or video from my xbox to my tv. I had my xbox and dvd player going to my receiver then the receiver up to the tv. Well my speakers started to blow so I wanted to take my xbox straight up to the tv. When I tried doing so I got no sound or picture. So I tried doing the same thing with the dvd player and the same thing happened no sound or picture. So I tried hooking them back up how they were and still had nothing. So I went bought a new HDMI cord to see if that would work but still nothing. Now im not the smartest on this type of stuff but does anyone have any suggestions on what it might be that I cant get anything from my xbox or dvd player?

First things first, does your TV work?
If yes, try checking that the red, white & yellow tipped cables are in the right places on the back of your TV.

On mine it's like this:; from right to left (;when the screen is facing away from you);:;

Red tip, blue tip, green tip. Red, white, yellow tip.

Also try flicking the button on the HDMI cable from TV to HDTV.

I came here to troll you for hooking up with a 'hot chick' on xbox
instead I read about how to hook up an xbox
Well played, If you can't hook up the cables in either separately (;red, white and yellow);, you could try a connector scart lead which you can hook in. Alternatively if your tv has a hdmi port, you could use that instead which is less wires and much clearer. If your already using hdmi and that's what is not working, opt for the first option which is connecting using scart or separately.

I ended up unplugging the power to the tv for 5 minutes and plugging it back in then tried hooking it up again and it ended up working. So idk why that worked but it did

The TV was likely set to use the receiver only. When you unplugged it like that it prob reset the setting back to using it's own speakers.
