I don't know why people buy dells so much when dell doesn't even allow for proper airflow to allow the computer to have a long lifespan and they cram too much stuff into cases that are too small with not enough fans.

You're better off building a custom computer and even if you don't know how its not hard to find someone that you could probably pay 20-3 bucks to do it for you since it only takes around 2-3 hours at most to put a custom rig together.

I'm guessing the OS you have currently came with the computer?

I honestly don't know why they make a 32 bit Windows 7.

I'm still running Windows X.P so 32 bit should of died with the end of X.P, I always think its strange they continue supporting it.

My Inspiron has excellent airflow. I've been using it for 3,4+ hours every day since i bought it in December 2010 or 11, don't remember. The temperatures were always good.

Not going to post specs because no once actually cares about other peoples specs.

Well, I highly doubt that a pre-built computer would actually need any more than just an intake fan in the front since most of them don't really have that much hardware to actually generate the heat. But I find it funny that people in this day and age still buy pre-built computers. Had it been 20 years ago, then it would've been a completely different case. In this day and age there are probably 9 bazillion guides out there that explain in detail the process of building a computer from the ground up. Then the question of "what hardware do I chose?" pops up, but once again in our days there are thousands of forums out there filled with people to advise you on all aspects of computer building.

So the conclusion is, why are people still buying something that is more expensive, less powerful, less reliant and less personalised to the needs of it's owner?

If by making a custom laptop you mean buying all the parts separate and putting them together yourself, then that is impossible. If on the other hand you mean you'd like to configure a laptop parts list, then I know of only few companies that allow their customers to do that, one of which is Alienware(overrated and overpriced pieces of crap if you ask me).

But either way, I don't understand the need for laptops any more, those who really needed laptops before were business men, and now the tablets are taking over, another pointless topic if you ask me..But then again there are people going out and buying macs, so I suppose trying to change people's minds is pretty much impossible.

That's why I used to buy dell over other laptops. You could customise to an extent. I looked a few months ago when deciding between building my desktop or getting a new laptop, and it had mostly been removed, then about the only things you could customise, was the colour, OS, and what peripherals you want with it.

There still a point in laptops in my mind. I did a lot of my work at uni on my laptop, was easier to take in the electronics lab when we had a big assignment where everyone was camped out on the supplied computers. It was a lot easier with group projects too, we could all meet up, and work on projects together anywhere. Though since I have finished uni I haven't really had a huge need for it, but imagine i'll probably always have some sort of laptop, even if my next one has a detachable keyboard.

I didn't want a Laptop. I had to choose: Laptop or nothing.

My pop didn't want to get me a Desktop, being afraid that i'd be sitting for 24 hours in front of it, playing video games all the time. I only play one video game on my laptop.

I never liked NFS Shift, got it for $5 on steam and i regret wasting my money on it. most racing games just suck these days since they're watered down stylized pieces of shit catering to the ADD crowd. Last decent racing games I played was Dirt 2 and Grid 1.

My pop didn't want to get me a Desktop, being afraid that i'd be sitting for 24 hours in front of it, playing video games all the time. I only play one video game on my laptop.

so.....a laptop is his solution?

Whether its a laptop or PC you can still sit in front of it playing for 4 hours on a really good game during a day off or 24 hours if you're some unemployed no life WoW player

There's nothing i can do about it.

He thinks that i can't run anything at all. He is partially correct, i can't play games like BF3, Crysis, GTA IV, and other demanding games, but i can play something like NFS Shift.

I never liked NFS Shift, got it for $5 on steam and i regret wasting my money on it. most racing games just suck these days since they're watered down stylized pieces of shit catering to the ADD crowd. Last decent racing games I played was Dirt 2 and Grid 1.

Lol i got mine off PirateBay for free, i only use shift to drive around the Nurburgring.

Dirt 2 is good but Grid could've used more cars.

its a shame though that Grid 2 won't have the cockpit cam or the Derby Racing online mode. sales for Grid 2 pale in comparison to Grid 1 because of that and I've even seen them modify the preorder rewards graph on steam just to make people think it was selling well

A LOT of racing games have cockpit view which i love to use because it helps immerse yourself into the game and make you feel like you're driving. I really want to crucify the bastard that thought removal of both the cockpit cam and Derby Racing was a brilliant idea when those are the two biggest features of Grid 1.

because its faster
and i dont see whats so bad about the metro, you can turn on the laptop, go to desktop and basically never again see metro interface
im always using normal windows programs, instead of those preinstalled apps that are made for win8

i really dont see what the big problem is with win8

for all i care you can stay with xp if you think its best
but i like getting the little speed boost
